Hi all, been a while since I posted. I just went ahead and took advantage of the lower exchange rates and purchased a Forge World
Thunderhawk Gunship kit. Last time I looked about a year ago these babies cost $700, right now despite of the turmoil in economy I was able to purchase it for $550. Anyway I plan to do a WIP assembly and painting of this huge beast.
BTW for those following my Ver. 2 tutorial for the storm raven I posted comparison pictures, look at the Tutorials section.

How was the quality of the resin? I lot for FW kits i have bought have had warped parts, for example in the classic land raider they do and the marine extra armour sections for the rhino doors never fit properly, ever. How would you say things were in general with the thawk's parts fitting together and lining up?

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

I would like to say fair to good at best, not perfect. In fitting the body I had to use some tubes to correct warping in the hull, I will post photo later. I also see some sizable gaps where the parts are suppose to fit, will need to fill that in with green stuff. Detail is amazing but the casting on fitting and warping is still an issue. Definitely not a kit for beginners since a lot of patch/repair work and cutting will be needed. Still this is a better kit than the all metal kit that came out before and that was a b***h to put together.
Notice the warping where the two halves join.
I went ahead and used a modeling plastic tubing and plastic card to correct this.
Dry fitted, still unglued so I can make adjustments if I need to later on.

I would put a hair drier on it as it is. It should help soften the resin to help hold the shape you have made for it with the support. Alternatively let it soak in warm water. You could also cut 3mm brass rod to size and place a few of these on the inside left and right walls going from floor to ceiling. 3mm brass rod doesn't bend lightly and once painted would look like interior fittings. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Thank you for the pictures. I have been debating picking one up when I finish my company for a final project and had been wondering about all this. Thank you for the instructive info about the walls bowing there. That's not good! If you could please be so kind as to make it a brief point of discussion when you're going along and telling us about the construction and how you resolved the issue I would be very grateful.
cheers

1 British pound = 1.4418 U.S. dollars
375 pounds = $536.01
As of today it is even a bit cheaper.

Need the british economy to fail even more before I'm ready to toss $500.00 on a model.
Pro tip, patzgcrux, pin the living crap out of that model as you put it together. Use two-part epoxy glue where possible. It may be more hassle at first but you'll thank yourself for doing it later.

People are paying that much for virtual items in computer games. At least the Thunderhawk won't disappear in three to five years when the server farm is shut down.

Thanks for the advise, probably will just do simple colors for the interior, I would do a good detail on the cock pit since I plan to magnetize the canopy. I need to buy sand paper to clean it up, thinking it will take me about 2 weeks working 2 hrs a day to get it painted. Still deciding if I will just paint it a neutral color since I plan to post it on ebay.

Errrm, no. The reason you can get more dollars for your sterling is because the American economy is weaker.

Erm, no, they're buying from the states. They want LESS dollars per sterling, or more precisely more sterling per dollar.
