Some may have seen my Valkyrie/Vendetta proxy-kitbash. Jump to the bottom for more pics of that.
When I saw the new pics of the Sky Talon on FW, I immediatly went and picked up the last two clearance Avatar RDA Gunships from Walmart. I had an idea... So I would cut out the core of the ship till I could fit something up inside of it. The size I settled on was a AT-43 cargo container. I went ahead and completed most of the construction, and will go back in later and clean up and extend the side pannels to cover a bit more on the container as it's in flight position.
Here it is flying into position above the landing pad. For now, I put the flying base into the bottom of the container, as it fits snug up in there and ballanced really well where I drilled the hole for the clear rod.
Here you can really see the results of my inspiration: the Sikorsky Skycrane. It's the image I had in my head the whole time working on it. With the landing struts swung back, you get a good sense of forward movement. I will add some small vectored nozzels to the pod on the tail spar.
Like my Valkyrie, I cut off and shaved down all of the wing weapon hardpoints. The cockpit has not been paited and is still the original OD. The front landing struts are mounted on the first flat pannel after the cockpit curve. Pinned with heavy coat hangar, they snug in and stay in place in both positions. I kept the model the full original length to achieve the Skycrane look.
Here it is on the landing pad. I have a bunch of guys running out fot the shot, well, because I had a bunch of guys. And it shows the scale of the Sky Talon and it on the landing pad. Not the best pics, but you get the idea how it will look with the container lowered to the deck.
Here's my Valkyrie/Vendetta hovering around for air support. The core part of the ship is really close in size to the GW plastic kit, so I'm really happy with that. It can't hide per-say on the table, so having large high-profile rotors out there dosen't bother me, and it's worth that price for playing a cool looking proxy.

It's the Avatar RDA "Scorpion" Gunship, a pre-assembled, snap together toy. They were just too cool a design not to make work. I got mine from Walmart, Target and Toys'R'Us, etc. as they went on clearance. You can still get them off eBay or Amazon.com
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A15%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&_nkw=avatar+gunship&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1

The plastic is easy to cut, so my kitbash mods were quick to rough in. The plastic they use is repellant to even CA, so you have to use a 2-part epoxy for a perminant bond. Also pretty easy to moc up smaller seats in the cockpit to reinforce the scale. I'll take pics when I can.

He said where in his first post.
Wal-mart. They were avatar toys (for the 3" action figures) on clearance.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Hi,
Sorry to be a bit OT, great work btw, where did you get the yello alien cargo lifter? it actually looks in scale!
|
The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

That's a kitbash. It's the R: STC Chickenhawk Marauder from Mongoose Publishing. The body has been turned up and rotated backwards, then a bunch of other gak. The arms are from the Konami candy/toy Aliens Ripley Power Loader... just the right size.

Those are all built by me, based on the FW one... but I scaled it up for better gameplay. See the thread for my Anphelion Base project: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/287697.page

It's a Konami 1/35-scale Japanese candy box toy. Should be between $5-$20.
