Greetings, I had a few questions.

For my command squad, may I put a power sword on my apothecary, and may I upgrade the champion's combat shield to a storm shield?

No and No.

1) The Apothecary isn't a Veteran, so he doesn't have any access the options veterans have.
2) He doesn't have any option for a Storm Shield, so he cannot take one.

Mm, so the Champion doesn't count as a Veteran either?

Eh... It's complicated.

The rules don't say WHEN he is upgraded from a Vet into a Champion, so it's unclear if he keeps any wargear bought "as" a veteran.

However, since the choice is listed before the Model options, most people consider it to happen before.

And to be honest, considering the Company Champion (RaW) has a Bolt Pistol (Or Boltgun), Chainsword, Power Weapon AND Combat Shield, it's a little cheeky to try and give him MORE stuff. He's the Company Champion, not the Company Pack Mule!

From how I see it, he has a pistol, power weapon, and a shield. The shield should get replaced by the storm shield.

So I get two things from this.

One: That would be a freaking sweet joke model. Pistol and Boltgun, Chainsword, power sword, combat shield, storm shield, and melta bombs.

Two: This is considered a grey area. I don't actually see anything wrong if I'm willing to shell out a few extra points to upgrade the upgrade into something better.

1) Yes, yes it is.
2) Yes, it's a grey area, but it's more grey on one side than the other, if you get my drift. It's almost certain that the Champion isn't supposed to have any extra equipment, but barring an errata, we just do not know. Better to play it safe than to have a model you cannot use!
