Well, it's sort of a modeling question, so I guess this is the best place. I got a drop pod from a non-local FGS. Shrink wrapped, looks cherry. Got it home, and realized that out of the 5 door aquilas, 4 were miscast. See attached.

I already wrote to GWS and assume they will take care of it, so I'm not really worried or upset, but curious - have you guys who have gotten drop pods before seen this? I mean, 4 out of 5 is kind of a lot. Is this a problem with this kit?The rest of it was fine.

I doubt its a common problem, but when you get a bad one, its usually bad. I bought a box of boyz once that had a bunch of melted guns and arms. It was pretty messed up to say the least

Would of made perfect mutant parts for CSM or something though

Manufacturing issues happen with any product by any company. This isn't limited to Drop Pods and is not an issue with Drop Pods. Every kit you open has the potential to be a dud... Atleast GW is known for fixing these situations.

I've heard of a lot of issues with GW casts lately.. I wonder if something is afoot lately? a pressure fault with the plastic injector or something?

I've been waiting like 3 days to hear back on an email to GW.

I got a box of vespids, and I'm short one dude, plus the heads on 3 of them (including the strain leader) are broken...

I brought a chaos battle force a few years back, the beserker sprues were all missing the same rear torso half as if someone had clipped them off. I got a couple of new sprues sent to me to make up for it - they were missing the same bits too! I left it at that though as I was still ahead by a couple of figs even if some torso bits weren't there.

Their casting, at least their casting of older sets, is not as good as it used to be, I've noticed various minor defects and extra flashing when comparing older casts to newer ones. I don't know if this is a product of mould use, some cheaper plastic they're using or whether they've "offshored" some of their lines to increase profit.

GW is in itself a company of Injection Molding. I work in this field and i can tell you that it is the most smooth running operation at times and one of the biggest headaches ever suffered. Plastic is a very tough material to predict when produced, hence making the bad parts or miscasts. The holes are due to sinking and when the part cools it actually shrinks and instead of having a "dent" you get a hole from the material shrinking too fast for that small amount of material that was there originally. I too have had problems. More-so with FW, considering they use resin. Which in its self is just insanely brittle.

The #1 problem..... Quality Control!

Yes they are looking for cheaper resins to make the product as the price of plastic (even pellitized) has really increased. The different plastics react differently (as expected) some may leak from the mold (extra flash) some may not be as volumous (shot shot on minis)....

This should ALL be caught; during a trial run sprue should be checked 100%!!

BUT; then there is the possibliity of the injector macine acting up (trust me.... they do) varaitions in material, shift changes..... and god help us if the line is autopacked.... (im sure it is, seeing the short boxes Ive gotten)

just my opinion.

Quality control is a balancing act, you can check every single one, ore you can check one in a 100 and catch 95% of the issues, combine that with great Customer Service and the few issues that do arise are quickly dealt with and we are all happy at the end.

No reason to cry over spilled milk, especially if the person who spills it; cleans it up, replaces it, and gives you a pat on the back in the process.
