It's really worth mentioning that there were 8-10 very strong players which in a field of 24 people meant this was a brutal tournament. Usually there is about 20 in a 100+ player tournament and so you would only play one or at very most two "pipe hitters". In this tournament if you were looking to get 1st you would have to play at least two big guns.

We also had 10 teams for the 40k team tourney on Friday, some of them only having time to play that day. Even if you add it all up we had over 50 players. To me seeing it was a three day event it was definitely a GT level experience for everyone who was able to attend.

Well there was this fantasy player that won almost every award on that side. His name is Beachy and is one of those truly amazing individuals that don't come along often. He must be packing some serious whoop arse.

On the 40k side which is what I know here are all the high points:

The vast majority of players who came out were awesome and these are the kind of people I like to play. It's special to me when you all these people under the same roof for a couple of days. Much kudos to Clark Welch & Jacob Pauly for helping us to impartially judge the event. Half of the judging team was from the Skul N Bonz club out of Port Richey, the other half was from our club. I did not see any bad decisions, there was a few tough calls to make and overall it went off without a hitch.

Much kudos to Marc Parker for reviving orks from their current level of mediocrity and taking best overall in the 40k GT. Much kudos also to Gabe Dobkins & Joseph Sledge from Jackonsville. Gabe won the award for best appearance and his GI Joe themed Imperial Guard army was a true terror to behold. It's something different from any other IG army I have seen and I respect that a lot. Mike Walsh won best the best general award with his Space Wolves. There were some truly epic battles and Mike did very well in every game. Mike Walsh & Paul Murphy also won the 40k team tournament with ten teams showing up to play. Aaron Hagney took home the player's choice award with his potent Khorne/Nurgle daemon army... His Skulltaker looked like a heavy metal rock star.

Communication is always very important for any large event. Yuri & I will work even harder come the next event to make sure everything is clear. I received a lot of feedback regarding the missions for 40k. A lot of players told me they loved the missions. There was lots & lots of playtesting several months ahead of the event and I personally thank everyone who helped to make them better with their positive feedback and suggestions. There were three mechanized IG armies on the top three tables for the final round of the 40k GT & to me that says a lot. The missions were designed to be challenging & exciting. There were at five armies that had a shot at best overall going into the final round so I think the missions accomplished their goal. Obviously there will always be some people that don't like the missions at any event you attend. Their criticisms were noted and we will use this feedback for the next event. Having put lots & lots of time into the missions the praise I received was very gratifying.

It is looking like we will do another big event in February. Thanks to everyone who came out to play. Some people only came out to play in the 40k team tourney & I thought that was very cool.

Out of the 24 or however many people in the event there were 5-6 of us who have WON Official GTs, Indie GTs, or placed in the top 5 of multiple national level events.

Like Brian and Steve said. The fact that there were only 24 players meant that a lot of the best players had to play against each other resulting in a tournament that I would say on difficulty level was equal to a tournament with a field of at least double the size.

---

I had a great time and was happy to fly down. Won Best General (I'll post a link on the WC forums to my new Wolf List to those that have followed it in the past.) and teamed with Paul Murphy to win the Team event.

"If that's the way you want to play it!"

---

Special thanks to Steve, Yuri, and Brian for organizing and hosting the event. Also to the SnB guys it was nice to actually talk to you some, I have seen you a number of times over the years across the country so it was cool to actually meet you guys.

---

Great job Mark on winning over all. I still owe you from 4 years ago!!!!!

---

This was the first event for Bolter Beach since Necro didn't happen this year, and while the turn out was lower than expected. I think it was a great event, and would only continue to build in the future.

Like Brian and Steve said. The fact that there were only 24 players meant that a lot of the best players had to play against each other resulting in a tournament that I would say on difficulty level was equal to a 100 person tournament without a doubt.

Sure having 70 people would have been righteous, but for the first time, having in the mid to high 20's with the caliber of players in the field was good enough for me. "

I think this is very, very true. Same thing is probably going to happen for us here in SoCal with the upcoming Conquest run GT. Out of the 20-30 dudes (maybe) who show up most of them are very solid players who run hard lists because that's their favorite part of the game.

In fact most of us are laughing about it since there is a higher chance of pulling 2-3 nasty players in 5 rounds rather than the normal 1 that you pull in a standard 5 game (if that).

Glad the tourney went off well. Grats to Marc and Spoons. Hopefully I'll see you guys in Vegas (assuming I can win one )

Thanks for posting. This was an event I was interested in, but still deployed. Man, you Florida folks must be spoiled with tourneys; 24 showing up is a surprise. I'd figure since the Necro took a hiatus this year, this event would have been run over. I know most of us Army folks will be back by the end of the year in NC and our local shop will draw about 30 players for our RTTs.

Tables from Thor's battle reports look top notch. Kudos for really putting in the time. The tables alone would be a huge draw to attend.

Gabe's IG army is something of a spectacle. It is definitely a labor of love, especially with all the subtle conversions to get all those classic GI Joe characters on the table (Zartan, Stormshadow, Baroness, Drednoks etc...) I'm still waiting to see his Cobra Rattler (IE: Valkerie) as that was a new piece.

Looking forward to pics and battle reports.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

If information for a tournament is not open to public disclosure then some people might be suspicious. I don't remember the exact details of any particular list. They were all checked for correctness.

Very interesting 2k list from Marc. Kinda neat but I'm surprised he did so well with only 2 troops. But then again I haven't read the missions for the event. To much Wall 'o text for me

I'll post my exact army list on the WC forums later with reasons for each of the choices I made.

I found the Pods to be > the Rhino's though.

I dont recall anyone saying that Marc's army was a cheat.

That doesnt mean you need to volunteer winners army lists if they prefer them not to be posted. Thats for Marc to do if he wishes to share.

I know, how about you share with us ALL army lists that were at BB this weekend, just so the internet can be sure no shenanigans were held anywhere. Your public disclosure/suspicious stance is ridiculous. Instead of coming up with an excuse...you should edit your post and remove his list.

...but whatever, I'll let you take it up with him.

BTW, when I called him this afternoon he already saw this post. His reaction?

the second wagon most likely had a squad of Lootas in it...

Looks like a fairly simple list to beat if it was in the hands of a bad player... but I know Marc Knows what he is doing (he's a good player) so he probably played it in a way none of his opponents would expect

I typically only play with two troop choices and have done very well. Ard Boyz is the one notable exception. It's very nice that the newer 5ed codices are generating some really potent troop choices. My take on troops is they should be geared as heavy hitters not simply something cheap to sit on objectives.

I've found when kept to the standard 5th ed missions, 35 wounds worth of troops are needed for me to be guaranteed time on the top tables. (this is for 1750-1850pts)

any higher and I need a bit more.

Marc had 20 in the nob bikers, plus the pain boy FNP ability and most likely 19 with the meq. Seems pretty solid in terms of number of wounds for troop choices.

I doubt he had Lootas in them because they were both had a closed top, at least by GBF's description. Perhaps he was using them for anti-LR duty. At some point opponents had to make the tough choice of using meltas on the Nobs or the empty Battlewagon. My guess is the Nobs generally took the shots and the spare BW got to wreak havoc.

I never understand the whole "ZOMG don't post my list!!1" attitude some people have.

It's not like there's some magic formula they've stumbled upon that they need to jealously guard from the rest of the 40k community.

It's helpful to everyone to see what lists are doing well- it allows players to try and emulate better lists, as well as practice against better lists. Other than a desire to keep opponents mediocre, I can't think of a legitimate reason to keep a list undisclosed.
