Hey all, LazzurusMan here again.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea which of these would be better in terms of looks, cost and time needed.
Im starting a nurgle marine army, and i wanted to use plague marines instead of marines with the icon, and wanted to know which would be better, buying the 7 man plague marine sets from GW, using greenstuff on normal CSM's, or buying the FW death guard conversion kits?

Any help will be greatly apreciated.

I personally think that you should use greenstuff on normal CSM because then you can make unique models and they will be as you will like them to look... but it really depends if you like to convert and model...I think the cheapest is using the greenstuff on normal CSM because you get a lot of marines for not as much as you will get the actual plague marines models...in terms of look hmmmm my opinion is still the greenstuffing because you can actually make them look as you like....and in terms of time I'm not really sure...I hope I helped

I would go for the forge world conversion kit. It looks alot better than the games workshop peices. However using the green putty on the games workshop models could work, and offer you a lot more options but I would go for the forge world models just to play it safe. Hope this helped.

I like the idea of using greenstuff, but my modeling skills have never been tested on greenstuff, allthough i think i have a model i can practice on first. If i do use greenstuff, do any of you think i should give my marines the icon of nurgle, or do you think that festering boils and rotting guts would get the point accross? XD

Depends whether your whole Nurgle army only has 7 Marines. Otherwise I would use every Nurgle Marine model available, including the metal GW ones and the FW ones. Both look fantastic.

Foregworld stuff is always head and shoulders better than normal injection molded stuff. It just costs a ton and isn't as easy to work with, being resin instead of styrene.

For customization, awe factor, and price - I say do your own PLague Marines using Greenstuff and CSM plastic kits. The kits will give you tons of extra bits and - lets not forget - a plethora of weapons options. Why buy the metal models and get stiffed with ONE plasma gun?!

I just did eight using this method and they look great (no pics of them yet as they are not painted/complete.) What I did with mine was use the triangular shaped file to saw gashes in the armor in diffferent spots. I also used my hobby knife (by rotating it between my fingers with the point in the model) to make those corrosion holes you see so often on PMs. I also added a ghoul arm here or there or cut a shoulder pad in half. Some models have guitar string for tubing. The next step will be bulbous flesh and puss postules w/ Greenstuff. I also plan on making a custom back pack from Greenstuff that will be a giant insect hive on the Marine's back.

I think the possibilities here are endless and although the GW and FW models look great, why not have some serious fun with them???

Don't even consider the FW conversion kit. Too expensive, and you'll spend like another 20 dollars for shipping. I personally like the plauge marine set,as I'm awful with greenstuff, and metal models are always nice.

Wow, thanks for the comments guys
I agree that i shouldnt buy the GW plague marines...my current 1000 point list has 20 marines and no plasmas, so they would be useless, and i dont wnt to use a mixture of modles 'cus im not collecting a mixture of chaos legions
I have decided that i will be using greenstuff on bog standard chaos marines...and should hopefully get some pics up in the next few weeks (If i manage to earn some cash...do you hate addictive, yet expensive hobbies? )
Thanks again guys, oh, and if anyone has any pictures, or anything else to do with nurgle marines, colour schemes etc, feel free to post them here while you all wait eagerly (i hope ) for my pics

Are you sure you don't want to mix the metal Plauge marine Kits with the weapons from the CSM kit? I added some meltas to my metal plauge marines, and they looked great! It's worth a try.

Do you mean adding a CSM melta model, or cutting the plasma or a bolter from a metal guy and replacing it?

I mean, make complete meltagun arms from the plastic kit, and glue those arms onto the metal plauge marine models. They don't come all in one piece. the arms, backpack and heads are seperate.

Oh...i cold do that...but i REALY like the idea of being able to use greenstuff to completely change the way my modles will look...pluss i will be getting more modles for only slightly more money...meaning i can use my 1000 point campain list It's still a good idea though, and one i might use in the future when i have a more stable source of income

Okay, I understand. Try practicing with greenstuff A LOT before you put it on the marines. I use bottlecaps to practice on..not sure why.

Something i completely forgot to say about was the paint scheme...does anyone know a way that i could paint my plague marines with needing to highlight.
I know i will probably get a virtual kick in the nads for this, but i cant highlight to save my life, as i seem to have some kind of shaking problem, and all the tutorials i have seen on how to paint plague marines have had alot of highlightin. If anyone knows of a paint scheme that DOESNT include highlighting, please tell me

Did you use the FW conversion kits for them? Or are they plague marines from GW?

I personally would go with a mix of all three.

Well, i suppose i've left this long enough and should TRY to resurect this thread as i recently got 2 boxes of Plague marines, and greater deamon of nurgle and added loads of greenstuff to a termie lord....and some termies.
I don't have any pics, but i will do soon. ^^

Mix the PM kit with regular CSM bits. You can make 1 PM kit last for a couple CSM kits if you're good at converting and stuff.

Ah....i've allready built the plague marines....and the chaos marines i had were pre-made from a friend, but my termie lords looks great, i custom built a deamon weapon with the sorceror staff, two axes and a large bayonet ^^

Okay, sorry if the pictures aren't of a good quality, these were taken with my webcam *gulp*

The are the only models i have painted/greenstuffed....and the termie with greenstuff which isn't painted needs some work lol

Oh, and all of the greenstuffed bit were done with only my fingers and a rohan metal spear....no proper tools were needed

Lookin good. i use a mix of FW and GW marines plus 7 that i converted myself. I took a really small pin vise drill and drilled holes everywhere, then GS and then glued sand in little patches here and there.
