Hey all,
First of all: Hi. This is my first post on your forums so i figured lets dive right in.
I was hoping on some advice about my color scheme. After a lot of trying, testing, reading up on other people's paint schemes and eventually combining them i got something i kinda like. It has good potentials for a beginning painter (thats me) and for quick mass painting. There are however two things im not sure a bout. Ill post some pictures below (if that will work out right) but first my two questions.
1 - What do you guys think of the tallons? i like the boney looking (bleached bone with a devland mud wash) better then the dark ones (chardon granite) but im not sure about the contrast. the lighter once kinda blend to much into the skin color. what do you guys think or do you have any other suggestions?
2 - my color scheme is:
model basecoated white
gryphon sephia wash (some place twice if needed)
baal red on the ' rips' and some other areas (tongue etc.)
carapace is painted fortress gray then a wash of the azurman blue wash.
teeth i still gotta do same for some patch up work (youl see in the pictures)
this is quite easy to paint but when i get my hands on some bigger models (hive tyrant comming up) i would like to be able to touch up the colors to put in some more effort and get a nicer (not so quickly lloking) model. The thing is. i have no idea how. I tried some highlights in on the carapace but the dont show up after the wash (fortress grey and astro grey high lights) or just look bad (blue or white high lights) the only thing i can think of are the tallons. how would you guys go about, using this scheme as your starting pint when painting a bigger model?
Thanks all. im looking forward to you replys and forgive my grammar please ;-)

Try a dull red for the talons it will compliment the blue carapace and maybe add a neat contrast. Black or greys will not stand out too much if thats what your going for and with the "skin" being the color it is the bone colored talons are alittle i guess invisible would be the word.
On the bigger models like trygons and hive tyrands the simple act of building out more contrasting highlights works really well. Since your new at it just paint till you get it the way you like it.
try to copy this style on the big guys armor and skin.

I own way to many Chaos Daemon models...why do I need over 200 pink horrors?

Yea I agree with dull red fading up for the talons, would look really nice with your scheme. Great job so far.

I personally start with black, paint 3/4 of the talon red gore, then fade up blood red, then ard coat, looks decent. This pic is rough, but you can really see it on his little talon what im talking about.

Thanks. Ill try it. Dont have red gore myself but ill just try around a bit with some other reds or mix a bit.
You guys got any idea on bringing out some more details/highlights on the carapace? Im still not sure what would be a good way. Making blue contrasting layers before the wash? so far im a bit dissapointed with my results. Th wash makes it harder to get a nice looking result. On another model i just used a few different blues to build up the carapce by feathering a lighter blue towards the edges. i like the effect but not the colors (i like the wash look on my models) and they dont really fit well next to each other....

You could highlight the edges of your carapace with a light color, or you could leave em as is. Honestly they look pretty good the way they are.
