I like this, the design reminds me of the first concept sketch for Reavers, way back in the day. As for the head and Missile Pods, I like them. It totally captures the feel of a Reaver Titan IMHO. Good stuff.

Posted By UltraMarc on 09/24/2007 4:19 AM Second, I don't think it's that big. It's slightly bigger then the warhoud, but if you take the missile pod off, it's not that much bigger. Other then that, I love the look of it. Slightly bigger? The Warhound is about 10.5" tall, and the Reaver is about 15" to the top of the carapace and 17" to the top of the missle pod. I've printed out life size pictures of both of them and standing side by side, the Reaver is a beast compared to the Warhound.

Hmmmm..... Size appears to be correct (ala fluff and relation to a Warhound...also looks like the same Reaver - Warhound proportions as my Armorcast ones...) Guns and MRLS...look cool. Head... yeah...it might grow on me... BUT WTF HAPPENED TO IT'S FEET ? Seriously, that looks like they stole the feet design straight from Dreamforge's "Leviathans". I MUCH prefer the splayed feet of the original Epic Reaver design, and the Armorcast model. That thing looks like it'd take one step and either fall over or sink up to it's knees. There's no surface area to disperse it's weight !!! I'm with those who say "Wait for the Lucius pattern..." Cheers, Padre^.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the new Reaver's feet have a larger surface area in comparison to the figure's size than the old AC titan's. Also, it's ridiculous to complain about the legs being impractical in comparison to the old one, when that old Titan looked incapable of taking even a single step, thanks to its grotesquely wide stance.

While the legs are very different than any of the Epic models, they actually are very similar to those seen in some ancient Jes Goodwin Reaver sketches and also resemble "realistic" versions of some of the old Epic Imperial Knight legs. For fun I enlarged and cut up one of the GD UK Reaver pics so that you can print them out and get an idea of how big this guy is. It's not exact of course, but it's pretty close as based on the Warhound comparisons, and the consensus of those who have seen the actual model. Download the images to your computer first. Printing orientation should be "landscape" on letter sized paper (11" x 8.5" ). Each 72 ppi image should be about 10.5" x 6" when printed - adjust according to the software you use - depending on your margin settings, printing full page should get you pretty close. Piece them together and voila!

Beef - I'm with you - "tree trunk"-like is probably a very good descriptor - unless they change the legs or the "next" pattern that they release has some real redeeming features...I'll be sticking to Armorcast. Love the FW Warhound...sadly disappointed by this. Agamemnon2 - I had a look and the "feet width" to height ratio is noticeably greater (from what I can see) on the Armorcast Reaver than it is the FW version. Also, I think you'ld fine that the idea behind the pose of the A/Cast and Epic models is that the Titan is at rest and braced for firing. If you have a look at the A/Cast Reaver, you'll see the baffling, suspension and pivot points that are there to allow it to bring its legs up and move. Cheers, Padre^.

Re:the pose, it'll be interesting to see how poseable this will be. The legs and hips look like intricate multipart assemblies akin to those on the Warhound, so I'll assume we'll be getting some variation out of it.

I have to question some of you peoples taste. The Armourcast Reaver is a spindly ugly monstrosity. The FW reaver, while lacking adornment (for now) looks big and solid, and at least looks like it could take a baneblade shell and not fall on its gigantic rear end.
In the end Fugly FW Reaver ok!. Super duper fugly Armourcast Reaver, thumbs down. But that's just a matter of taste. I can't ask everyone to have as great of taste as I do. ;-)

That amount of detail also isn't final. It's still a WIP and for all we know, the surface detail we're seeing is an early draft and the final kit will have something much more elaborate. If this is a "Mars Pattern", then FW will probably make it look at least as elaborate as their Warhound.

The detail as is good enough past that its an irritant but anyway supposedly 1k for that thing all the detail in the world isn't worth that price. Especially with how crappy FW resin is. Even the AC resin is of better quality. I honestly hope GW will do Titans and not stop at the Stompa kits they are releasing at the end of this year.

I think the thing is HIDEOUS!!! I have a couple of Old-school Titans, a Reaver(like my Avatar) and an OLD Warhound.
I saw the FW Wahound and LOVED it(Mars Pattern). I could not see ANY similarities between that and this reaver.
Completelt diff. style. If(according to the fluff) the Titans are manufactured on the same planet(Multiple planets i know!) there should at LEAST be a similarity between the designs.
These are just my opinions, and not neccessarily correct!!!! I think buying a second-hand Reaver on E-bay would be a wiser investment, IMO.

Actually... its a honda Accord 2 door... and its not Copyright infringment if i don't sell em. A friend of mine is a whiz at making Fiberglass molds and recently replicated a Warhound Titan at his first attempt with Resin molding. Biggest problem is you have to do it Piece by piece and the Mold is a one shot deal. On the Brightside it costs about 20 bucks for the molds but the downside is getting a high quality resin (which can be annoying).

What Iorek said. Posted By Heritor on 10/04/2007 11:12 AM and its not Copyright infringment if i don't sell em. That's debatable as evidenced by the numerous threads on that very subject in the Modeling forum. There's a few Dakkaites who are well versed in IP law - I'd recommend digging up their posts on the subject. The arguement can be made that each copy you produce is one less kit that you may have otherwise bought from the persons who created the original, therefore cutting into their potential profits. At the very least, if you're considering unauthorized duplication of GW product, please don't bring it up on Dakka. It puts everyone in an awkward position.

its only IP ifrindgment if its a exact copy or similar copy ot th emodel if your making your own custom thing which just looks vaugely smilar and you use said model to represent what ever it is you rmaking a model of techinically its ok,
it just gets murky on how similar the models are etc....thats from what i remember
|
The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

Anything you make on your own is yours (though if it's build around another company''s IP and it's origins are clear, they it can be a problem). Selling it exposes your product to a higher level of scruteny. Y'all may recall a company called Dreamforge that made giant robots with cathedrals on their back. The problem is that they originally sold them as titans, and then later changed the designs and sold them as their own original 'leviathans'. IIRC GW originally gave them permission based on their design changes, but then withdrew it. The key problem is that any GW fan who looked at them said TITANS! As long as they were so close to GW's stuff that we say that, it's probably an IP violation. Ultimately the only legal way to decide if leviathans=titans is in court and no one ever wants to go that far. And BTW copying a model, even if not for sale is illegal in the US.

If your pay is so low that you rather spend the time + cost of equipment and materials for all of that rather than buy as many titans for yourself as you need to, I hope it goes well and you are happy with your copied titans.
