Fortunately, I am quite skilled with both a hobby knife and a file.

Plus, I have, like, 100 tactical marines already so I am more interested in the termies and the orks.

This box sounds better and better the more I find out about it. I will certainly buy a copy sooner or later. I don't really need any more marines, but another dreadnought doesn't hurt, and it's a perfect kick-off for my new Ork army.

The rulebook, I hear, is a stripped-down version of the big book, similar to the BfM rulebook. Everything you'd need for a tournament, but little in the way of fluff, hobby stuff, or alternate scenarios.

There are four or five plug in scenic pieces designed to fit on the bases, each piece has a plug so it can fit in a hole in a large base, or can be cut and placed on a small base. The scenic pieces are skulls and piles of spent bolter cases. One skull has a bullet hole right through it, which is a neat touch. [/i]

Ha!

Since there aren't too many skulls on the Marines themselves, they had to end up somewhere!

Great review, thanks for the info.

1 or 2 boxes of Black Reach starter set, coming up!

I got my hands on a few of the sprues the other day and the plastics look really good, especially the SM commander and Warboss. The sprues are just jammed with stuff.

This set is just too good to pass up. And here I thought I had successfully moved on to privateer press. I'm like a beaten wife who keeps going back to her abusive husband.

Rulebook. The mini rulebook does have all the scenarios included in it, sop nothing playwise is missing from the cut down book. There is also a stat summary at the back for all current weapons and units, Inquisition units are listed on one page (Codex).

What, huh? Could you clarify this bit about the Inquisition?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Each section is for one Codex, though the Marines have several subsections. Inquisition forces are all in a single section, likely preparing for the 5th edition unified =I= codex.

Yes, please!

I dream of this as well, especially as it is the only way we'll get an =I= Codex out anytime soon, and it is double especially the only way the Ordo Xenos sees the light of day before, well, the Sun goes dark.

Well at least there was a chance of a Ordo Xenos codex before the destruction of the galaxy. The Squats, LaTD and seemingly, Dark Eldar will have to wait even longer.

Now I don't play SM's or Orks but I'm sorely tempted to get this set and either restart my Salamanders or finally go ahead and get my Flaming Fists codex chapter started.

I was having a play with the models and sprues today and the deff copters really are superb. You just need to make sure you stick on the pilots heads before assembling the rotors and support strut.

The warboss was also super cool and I'd use it over the current models (primarily as it has a klaw).

So the new mini-rulebook does contain the complete rules?

Based on the pictures the warboss does indeed look AWESOME.

Way better than my current warboss, who has a Big Choppa.

I wonder what I should use my old Warboss model for once I get the new plastic one?

Intesting tidbit:

The Warstore/Battlewagon Bitz are selling the contents of Black Reach box individually.

If you tried to buy everything that way, it would cost you about $160.00.

You can probably due better on eBay, maybe, for individual stuff, but as of right now, the box set should go for around $48 + shipping from the Warstore itself.

The squad of Terminators is going for $25, the koptas for $30 and the Captain and the Warboss for $10 ea.

Battlewagon Bitz's pricing scheme has always seemed a bit odd...

I saw the black reach box aswell as the staff were putting it together, and i was amazed at the detail of each model .. the dreadnought looked slimmer and comes only with a multi-melta which is good, the tactical marines looked pretty decent but the veterns shoulder pad (one with the marking) is a bit wierd.. but it might be a 1 off thing so i dont know, the termies look perfect and you can have a captain with a p/w and a unmasked head.. the best models were the nobs/deff/warboss these just looked nasty and puts khorne players to shame.. the nobs actually look bigger and nastier then average boys with all huge choppas. the deff looked cooooool all models were slightly different and hungry for speed and the chopers looks like battered metal that can fly and shoot rokkits, which is a good thing...

well anyway probably heard it before but i will definately be buying this box set, or maybe 2

cheers,
Gutteridge

i too saw the black reach box set today at my local GW. I have to say i was very impressed. As an ork player i primarily spent my time looking at them.

The warboss looks great with his powerklaw being kinda welded onto his arm, it even has a little exhaust pipe that just invokes the image of this huge klaw smoking and chugging away as it crushes things.

The nobz looked great and are noticeably bigger than the boyz so you can rest easy about that. they all have suitably vicious looking faces that offer some more variety to the current ork head line.

the boyz look like regular boyz out of the box set, they even have the same heads and similar bodies, but mixed with enough bits from the boyz box set they'll blend right into the rest of your army.

The deffcoptas were definitely the most imoressive sculpt on the ork side of thebox. All three a similar but different enough that you can tell which is which. they look ramshackle and barely able to fly, which is perfect. I'm not really too sure how customizable they are being that their main body is only two pieces but i'm sure some people will come up with some interesting things.

On to the space marines, i only really spent time looking at the dread, and the arms are totally switchable with another dreads arms if you don't want the multi-melta.

That's all really, over all i'm really impressed with the miniatures they have and i pre-ordered two of the sets.

.................................... Searching for Iscandar

I looked through it today (what, I was lazy ok?).

I think I will buy 5 or 6 of them.

Termie army? Check.

Smurfs for newbs to pound on and make me feel like less of an ? Check.

Orks to give to my friends? Check.

Deffkoptas to turn into terrain? Check.

Red sticks to poke stjohn70 with? Check.

Rulebooks to throw at donkey-caves who ask me questions? Check.

Useless guide to paper my cats litter box? Check.

More dice to feed to babies? Check.

A very nice deal.

Sadly I'll only get a crappy Black templar, deathwing, salamander, and who knows what else army out of it--all done in my Legion of the Damned motif.

Damnit...3-5 armies for about 800. Is this 1992?

(I'm including the 7 LR I'm getting for the Ard Boyz, soon to be other armies LR support).

The detail on these models are fantastic. The LFGS had a copy for us to look at. The models are really top knotch. I was really suprised by the quality-especially when I think back to all the previous box sets GW has offered (40K-wise).

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I'll be picking up two boxes for the Orks alone.

Aircav Orks have a thing about them. Ride of the Valkries.......

There is more plastic in the box trhen you'd expect. not much for scenery, but ZI'm thinking that 3d edition spoiled us on the weaksauce scenery additions and maybe they felt sorry for us and gave us some meat for a change.

I'm kinda scratching my head on the Macragg to Black Reach, but... ugh... If you need more marines it can't really hurt.

Now that the 5th edition madness is underway, bring out that Space Hulk boxed set and really keep my attention.
