Well, out of one AoBR box, I've got this much done:

All the skin basecoated ^_^!

The block approach does take a long time and sort of wears on you as you continue to paint the same color over and over and over again.

It's a good way to get started though!

Progress! I have realized that a 'speed paint' is a pipe dream for me ^_-. But these guys are coming along well enough. I painted 8 to complete base coats all except for eyes mouths and nails (I don't want the washes to ruin the brightness for them). Not sure if I'll keep up base coating or if I will finish these guys and then move on just yet. See below for where we stand right now!

Dunno how I missed this before but its an excellent start to painting on such a scale! I like the skin tones and the camo pants on the boss look neat too.

Keep it up!

I like the yellow eyes. Most orks I see end up with red eyes, or very messy yellow or white. Yours are perfect!

Great work so far, I like the overall look of the completed scheme. Neatly captures the "dusty soldier" WWII look without being just messy and gritty.

I also usually don't like normal model kits no matter how well converted, but in this case your themed demands some love for the real deal. I like it.

I second Meph above, I'm definitely going to do some yellow eye tests on my boys. The effect is incredible when coupled with the more natural skin tones.

Looking good so far GD! Care to go into your planned wash colors/technique? Inquiring minds want to know!

Grey you just have to keep at it. Footsloggin Orks are beast and basically you have to understand you will never be finished, so work on the units you need for the list you made and then the other stuff.

Last time I took the time to do it I had over 5K worth of painted Orks, I bet I have that much unpainted or in the stages of, and I bought 2 boxes of AoBR...not to metion I am doing contract work on and Orc Army and a Night Goblin Fantasy Army for a guy.

20-30 man units with command over and over again so I hear you about the same color thing. Some times I just cant do it, so I take a break for a few days and get back to it. You'll find what work for you but thats what I do. Keep the pics going man.

Hey, thanks for the comments guys, it's nice to get a little support on a project like this x.x...

Dante - The boss isn't mine ^_-. JD was just sharing his foray into the AoBR boyz.

Meph - Yellow was suggested by a friend on another board, and I'm glad I went with it.

Teek - My technique is still a bit experimental at the moment. I have a rough idea on how to get the final product, but I'll have to fill you in on it later ^_-.

Vyper - I'm definitely going to keep at it, I'm having some good success with the whole batch painting thing right now. I'm going to get the rest of the 500 points to the same stage as this last 8 and then it's wash time. I figure I can buy some more boyz after I finish this set ^_^.

I think it would've been cool had you left the teeth black. Not only would it have been original but also very badass.

Got really bored and side tracked this week:

Don't expect too much from these guys ^_-. I was using this as a distraction! Note the more elaborate spread of the rust. I think this works out better while still maintaining the original techniques and colors. A fun and quick little bit of painting that has kept me going! Might do a few more in the future, but not going full force with this until the Sons of Medusa are finished!

How many of these guys do you have done now mate?

I could barely remember you starting this log it was so long ago , you must have been bored!

Don't you have some Perry bros. mini's to be painting.....

Seriously though, great quality for an army, the rust in particular is very realistic and its nice seeing orks in subdued colours.

Random addition! I went to paint some SoMs but unfortunately Texas struck again and my spray went fuzzy on my termies, so I'll have to strip them...in the meantime I think a few orkses will be fun to work on.

New guy is third from the left! The skin is kinda freeform still as I play about using washes and different highlighting. Keeps them interesting on the whole though, and I'm not scared of different shades of green ^_^.

Anyone happen to know of anyone making round helmet ork heads? I could have sworn I read something about them.

Don't strip them, GD.
Respray them gloss, then spray matte over that.

Trust me.

Oh... and I forgot who MAKES the head, but TheWarstore has them in their bits section.

Well well, ork treadheads. How do I know that? Well "Pattun's Boyz" kinda gives the whole thing away. Good army though, you are giving me ideas for what to do with my AoBR box.

Really digging the skin on the newbie mate. It has more depth to it than the others.

Got much more planned for these guys or was it just done on a whim?

Great rust effects.
Surprised at how simple it is.

I've tried the Marmite Method with some success on my BW's. But didnt like the idea of block painting 20+ models with random patches of stickyness.

Good luck with paintin da boyz
