The orkuisition rises! I have always had a redemption type of them for my ork army(in my head anyway), but not much of it was modelled proppa like. So, this blog is going to help keep me trukkin through this 6th edition upgrade for one of my favorite armies. It started as a necroumda gang, but when that leage fell apart the idea got transferred to the army in 40k instead.

The basic premise behind the force is that a good ol ork army comes across some redemptionists on a necromunda like hive world. Before said redemptionists are added to the toof pile, they blab enough to convert a warboss, and from there in true orky fasion it spirals out of control until there is a waaagh composed entirly of konverted ork clans that now think they are indeed working for the orkuisition. They now meander the galaxy crushing efil wherever it be found(everywhere!).

In the past redemptist red and orange flames were about the only physical representation of the theme. This upgrade aims to change that in a big way, and allow me to convert enthusiasm for great and inspiring ork converters like Wazoo, and many many others into a project of my own that wil lresult in a kewl 100% unique army.

The themes: Inquisition I's as icons throughout. I had considered making an O with the lines throught it, but it just doesnt ring true to the theme. I think it very fitting that orks use the I, yet never think that it doesnt match the orky name.
Flames, candels, braziers, anything that can put extra flames of rightousness on the models and vehicles. Candles, particularly.
Robed bodies, and other monk/knight conventions, including carry large religous texts, chains, etc. Church /temple/shrine themes on vehicles.
Humor: I want this to be orky and funny all the way. Goblin cherubs, puns on imperial termss(orkus mechanics, emperork, etc)
scratchbuilds and conversons, I'm really trying to push myself for original and unique models, preferably ones that tell a story and build on the theme.

The army list is as yet uncertain, but ther eare a few things in the works or defintly planned:
3 battlewagons(two right away, one later on down the road)
at least two dakkajets, the second one probably a konversion built up from a valkrye or a storm talon
Burna mob
shoota mob
Nob Mob
Nob Biker Mob
Warbos and mek
some big guns(i have a 3 kannon battery already)
Anything else that takes my fancy.

I can be competitive, but this one is just for fun, so lots of friendly themed games in store for this army.

Ok, enough with the blabbin, on with the pictures of the WIPs so far.

Orkuisitor nob, once the leader of the redemptionist gang in necromunda.Really the flagship of the redesign.

Another nob

Nob with big choppa and kombi skorcha

A shoota boy thinking hes an Auger

The first battlwagon(still WIP) This one is the Marter Karter, its essentially the Oly mosoleaum on tracks. The little alcove on both sides will hold goblin and ork korpses, and other marter artifacts like skewered heads, and the grave of the unknown krumper. This was quite a challange to build, and for a long while I didn't liek the shape at all ... not until the deffrolla and some of the extra details like the big shoots were added did it start to fit the rolling church idea that I want. Platic sheet and tubes from a local trainstore. This also has the first implementation of my idea to have an insert to designate there are troops inside. More about that later.

THe gunner is magnetized so I can put a kannon up here if ever needed.

goblin rigger giving everyone the finger as he operates the deffrolla.

The occupied insert. Theere is space to add a model to the insert to represent the squad being transported. For ages I always made ork transports big enough to put the models in the truck or battlewagon, but that is such a pain getting them in and out all the time. So I had the idea of an "occupied" insert with just a couple boys modeled and room for the current squad. Fluyffy, looks nice, simple and quick in the game.

Ok., thats all I have time for right now, but I do have pics of some mysterious objective markers(skyfire nexus) and some kannons and their ammo runts(the tractors that pull them) coming soon. Any comments and suggestions are welcome,

Meph

Thanks! I'm hoping to get some more done on the battlewagon this week. The main body still needs the details in the martyr boxes , a few minro details and gubbins, and rivets. Kinda dreading the time the rivets on the largest part of themodel will take, but maybe I'll split it up over a couple days to make it not such a mental drain.

Hopefully I'll also take pics of the other things I already have finished tonight or tomorrow night. I have some Kannons and ammo runt tractors almost finished, and i've got some sky fire mysterious objective markers finished.

Thanks! At first i hated the idea of using the old GW tank traps as the deffrolla, I just played around with it and had pretty much tossed it aside. But somewhere I saw someones dump truck Battle wagon and that inspired the idea of putting them in a box, like a woodchipper on a much larger scale, really started to grow on me.

Skyfire Nexus Objective markers. Quite fun to do, and I intend to make two of each for my orks. I made some generic ones to give out as prizes at a tournament I run, and it only follows that I orkify some for my 6th edition army as well. i like the door prizes from my events to contribute to playing the game so I have made and cast Rhino wreck markers, bought and given out specially designed wound and vehicle damage counters, etc. I find this encourages players of all kinds of playstyles to attend, since they don't have to be gunning for number one and can still walk away with prizes that enhance their own games at home or in the local store.

Here are the ones given out at the event:
Skyfire nexus

Targeting array

Grav Wave Generator

Sabotaged - I used some old warzone figs to represent statues, so they could leave it if they wanted or easily replace it with a fig from their own collection.

Scatterfield - super sculpy. These were meant to be curved around the edge of the base, but I waited too long(they were hot after baking) to curl them and they were brittle at that point and started cracking. So straight walls were the end result. They have the hex type forcefield, i was thinking of the field in Cabin in the woods(see this movie if you havnt yet, it was awesome!).

And her are the first two for the orks, skyfire nexus markers.

Pics of the Kannons which I did a little more work on, and the two orky targeting arrays coming soon. Also working on dakkajet and some 'ard boys from fantasy black orks.

Thanks!

Kannon battery. The guns are Lobbas that I got used somewhere a long time ago. I had added the barrels before to make them kannons. This go round i've added all the extras, the gun shields, the braces, and the extra gubbins to the barrels.

For the ammo runts I wanted to have the tractors that pull the guns carrying the extra ammo. So i started with the back end of a skorcha buggie/trakk since for some reason it reminded me of a soviet tractor used to pull their artillery. Another one based off the same back end of a trakk becomes a truck, and the last one is a random bit orkified and given a loader arm. The tracks on this one are on half of a battlewagon track cut in half and turned on their sides.. These little guys were fun to make, Can't wait till I get to some grot tanks!

The crew are Battle for Skull Pass night gobbos who have had some grey knight bits added to help slip them into the theme.

And now for something a little ... painted! The crew;

comments, critiques and suggestions are always welcome, If I can spot problems now before I spend months finishing the army I will be glad for the feedback!

As usual my attention keeps jumping around, but at least its still within the confines of the same project! Worked some over the last week or so on sculpting robed orc bodies to cast. To keep them compatable with other orc figs I scraped all detail off four sets of legs and torsos and used them as blanks to sculpt on. I filled the gap between the legs with milliput, and then layed down the fronts one day and the backs another, with a little fixin up after that. Same has happened with the torsos, but I havnt snapped pics of them yet. They arn't the most finely detailed minis ever, but they should look pretty decent once cast and painted up. I didn't add any other details besides the folds in the robe, this is designed to make me spend a few minutes adding other details to make the orcs individual as I build them by adding more sculpting or ork/inquisition bits to keep them tied in with the rest of the force.

I think the first unit these gents will find a home in will be a redemption cult of shoota boys. I've had orks since 4th edition, and I've still never managed to put a shoota boy on the table. I've always run slugga boys in trukks, so this wil lbe my first shoota mob eva! They will also find thier way onto vehicles, be the basis for the burna mob, and more. Viva La Redemption1

Casting: I desinged these to be a simple one piece cast so I wouldn't have to bother with a two peice mold, so the bottoms are just flat and it is a simple pour and pop. I used to use alumalite casting and molding supplies, but after trying Smooth-on, its my favorite casting and molding supplier. OOmoo for molds, and smooth cast 300 for the plastic. It flows better and has less issues than almalite did, and the casts are usually end up way better. (it could also be that I was just a newb when using alumalite)

So, enough gabbing, here are pics of the lower bodies ready to be cast and sitting in their leggo hom about to await the mold.

In the near future pics of the cast lower bodies, and the two part mold for the upper bodies,. Also working on a slugga boy squad called Da Linch Mob,with torches and pitchforks and brooms oh my!

@ bigfish and clipseone: Thanks! Glad you like them.

@noahthepirate: Thanks! The kannons were the first unit for 40k that I started on and had that moment of .. oh, this needs to be done for the whole army. The little truck and tractors were amazingly fun to build. I can't wait to tackl grot tanks, but I've sort of tried to only work on 4 or 5 things at once ... LOL.

Dakkajet: These are pics from a little while ago. i did some more work this morning and really went to town adding more details. Right now you can see that I added some extra girth to the wings and I wanted grots manning all of the guns. So the two different cockpit gunner inserts have been given housing in the wings, along wit ha set of guns to man. also added an I to the nose, and put some grill in the intake. The upgrade 3rd gun is going in the center rear cockpit with the guns on a turret, but spread so they sit one on each side of the cockpit ... no point in hiding the cool looking pilot under the guns.

Also the next two mysterios objectives: Targeting arrays! the ork versions are a little more low tech than the ones I made for the event, but I really like how they turned out. They feel very orky. Now I just need to get a mission that uses objectives. My last two pick up games both ended up being "the relic" so they sat unused. :(

Amazing work! Everything looks fantastic. The ammo grots might cause issues in game (visibility for shooting and base-contact for CC), but they look great. I really like a fluffy build too. I'll be following your log closely.

@the good green: Thanks! As far as gameplay the ammo runts are just markers, so they can be moved out of the way at any point they get in the way of the game mechanics. I know I'm going beyond the specs and dimensions of things so I pretty much assume if there is a rules issue with any of the models I'll let it slide in my opponents favor. I have found already that the models altered dimesnsions do cause different situations t oarise. The Battlewagon for instance has its two big shootas placed rather high, and in one game were able to look right over an Aegis defense line and the unit behind got no cover(The battlewagon was rather close to the line). i prefer to let the model be the model, with any advantages and disadvantages that entails, but I'm willing to rule it however my opponent feels, including taking the disadvantage and none of the advantages(so far I havn't met anyone who wants to do this, but I've come across the type in the past so i'm prepared if it happens again). None of the models has been designed to gain any specific advantage, and everyone I've gamed with so far has been happy to treat it as is, which is pretty nice that it hasnt caused any disputes.

@cornadepanda, Sire William, and Waaaagh lord: Thanks! I have to give credit to Wazoo and the many other great konverters and scratchbuilders here on dakka and elsewhere, I have a huge file of reference works collected from the interwebs from these great folks that I skim through evey couple of days for inspiration and ideas.I've always done a little converting here and there, but seeing the awesome work other folks have done really gives me the umph to go this far outside the box myself.

Got in a game today against eldars and made a bunch of not very intelligent decisions(appearently making pew pew noises the entire time the dakkjet is on the table renders my tactical brain inert). Once again the scenario did not involve objectives(purge the alien) so I think I'm doomed to never put the mysterious objectives to use. Or maybe its just a sign to get the last two made so i'l lhave a full set when karma finaly swings my way.

Updated pics of the dakkajet and more on the casting of robed bodies soon.

Casting update! The molds are made and the first roobed orks have crawled out. This was a success for the most part, the leg mold worked perfectly and the casts come out near flawless, with only an ocassional bubble in a foot. The torso casts are also coming out pretty good, but have a small issue with venting(I'm still pretty new to two part molds, but every one i do I seem to get a little better at solving the problems that arise). They have had a few places where bubbles have appeared in some areas leaving a little greenstuffing necessary, but I plan on doing some extra stuff to them anyway to individualize the models so I'm not really that worried. My mold issues are far less than some fincast issues i've seen so i think I'm doin ok.

Also did some more work on the Dakkajet. The boxyness of the additions I added was bothering me so I added additional intakes under the guns, that feed up and exit through the rear vents, as wel las some detailing on top behind the grot cockpits.. Also added the interrior to fill the second cockpit and the extra supashoota and its grot crew(gnoblar models). Still a bunch of details to go, but starting tosee it come together.

Christmas is indeed merry when it comes wit hthe completion of the first grot tank! I tried to stick to the projects already going, but the grot tanks were just too tempting. Two more in the works.

I don't think Big Shoots are the optimal loadout for these guys, but the local scene doesnt use too much forgeworld ... so I'll introduce them slowly with the big shootas and at some point convert the current turrets or build new ones with grotzookas,

1k tourney coming up this weekend, so I'm trying to get my ard boyz unit painted up so all my infantry wil lbe painted. and only the battlewagon and kannons will be left unpainted as a testement to my shame.

I tried to spray on the metal color, but my airbrush didn't like thickness of the paint. I used a PP metal hoping it would be thinner, but it seems if I want to do metallics I'll need to invest in model air colors. This caused some spattering, but since i'm shading and highlighting the metal I think it will all dissapear.

The unit of 19 and Nob- these are kitbashed from fantasy black orcs, and then have some ohter bits added on.

A closeup of the kitbash:

Trying to finish these before saturday. I did a little more this morning, including some shading., so hopefully I'm on track for that.
