Great freehand on the shoulder pad mate. Honestly though I think your camera is screwing you over as it is not doing the models justice.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Honestly, the split/4-square paint pattern for Space Marines is something I always found strange and sensical from the first time I saw it.

And yours express it perfectly. The patterning throws they eye off, its not easy to look at them, in that the shapes one usually is used to are very different with the pattern on their armour.

I really like it, and honestly they feel a lot more like individual super-warriors than the plain-single-dominant-colour legions that most armies look like. Give 'er!

I'm taking photos with a G1's onboard camera with a single lamp. I'm doing OK with the tools I have, and have room for my photography to improve.

At the moment, the troops are a little muddy looking in person. A quick blast of clearcoat will take the shine off the models as well as seal what I've done so far.
Compare and They're both at the same point in their paint - a little muddy but everything's coming together.

Marines on hold - Decals (yeah, I'm a lazy bum) are still in the post. Time enough to work on other units though.

great looking figures, and the quartered color scheme is awesome.

What did you use to make the hand flamer though?

So, the hero is finally done. Table quality for the army has been set.
I'm not certain if I'm satisfied with the glow from the optic in the 5th pic.

Ingredients:
Space Marine assault legs, plastic strip, Guitar String (coiled steel. I forget the brand.), and the flamer nozzles from the DKOK special weapons kit.

Solid work mate, I love the conversions on it especially the weapon on the left hand. The freehanding shoulder pads is excellent. Only complaint is well... NONE cheers man look forward to seeing the army as it grows

I really like this color scheme. The conversions are great, love the poses and such. The painting is pretty good too, only thing I would recommend is washing with a light/med brown on the yellow armor. Black is a little too harsh for such a bright yellow.

Overall good work though, cant wait to see more!

A year? Really - sadly there's been little real work till today:

Yessir, I *am* an AOBR dreadnought. The leg cabling has been replaced with guitar string.

So the weapons needed an upgrade.
The Storm Bolter's belt feed looks off, so ammo drum it is. not like the Dread doesn't get support while in the field.
Being arguably cheap, and in the possession of an old metal exterminator turret I decided to give a hack at the Multimelta arm.

Much putty and a little plasticard to make it interesting later

Aaaand the 1st layer of paint is down:
Primer white, layer with Army Painter Daemon Yellow, quarter with VGC 72011, black out anything going to be black/metal.

Now, having gotten into an escalation league, its time to bring in another segment to my starting 500 points.

Scouts, who have been so kind as to 'salvage' a guard missile launcher.

Cloth is GW Desert Yellow, gryphonne sepia, 2:1 desert yellow/khaki.
Gray is PP Bane Highlight, Gryphonne sepia, 1:1 Bane highlight and PP Trollblood highlight, final highlight trolblood highlight.
Black areas to be recoated in chaos black, and get finalized.
Still a WIP.

Nice conversion and painting on vulcan, the freehand is cool. I really like howling griffons, they were in one of my favourite wd battle reports in WD way back in the 90's early 2nd edition era. always fancied doing some but the chapter badge always put me off and now i have a million other projects on the to do table lol. Interested to see how it all turns out. Keep up the good work!!!

In this update I catch up.
And confess - I took a way too long break on these gents. All photos are currently WIP. Be gentle.
Also: Look! I made sternguard!

I popped the guns off to prime them and work on the chest eagles as seen below:

And as not happy as I am with the combi meltas, I have them and they look ok.
You'll see beside them the losingest vanguard veteran squad ever.

They seem to be training these assault marines:

After appropriate washes:

And last but not least:
Razorbacks. I hate the current razorback and wanted the look of the previous one.

So I decided to build them. As per the clue in the second photo - one would be special for HQ use.

Because the one in the back is the prototype - and it still needs its lascannon puttied and sanded.
You'll note the plasma pistols. Plasmaguns are expensive, and frankly all I need is the muzzle.

This is so awesome. I now officially name you Primarch of the Howling Griffons. Congratulations!

These really are beautiful. Howling Griffons have been a favorite army of mine ever since I first saw them.. hopefully one day I'll be a good enough painter to have my own force of them.. but until then, I'll just enjoy your amazing work here!

Keep it up!

Loving the razor back model, are you going to use the current rhino body or will that be scratch built as well. Lovely colouring btw

Being immensely lazy, the current rhino chassis is going to be used - unless of course they're so kind as to change rhino hulls soon.
