5% is it?
I respect he still has to make money, but for such huge billing this 'amazing' sale doesn't really have me wanting to part with any $$$.
We must have different utility curves. Mine, you see, spikes at 21%+ off retail.
Seriously though, if I'd purchased any GW products this year aside from an O&G Army Book at retail from my FLGS, I'd agree that an extra 5% (4% in reality) doesn't seem like much on paper. But when you've been out the game for a while, and you instinctively look at GW retail as an accurate gauge of the price of a Wolf Chariot in 2009--instead of that number less 20%, as any War Store buyer should--24% off that retail number seems unbelievable.

Unfortunately, it looks like the GW sale items don't quite make it to 25% off. As the discount is added to your (already discounted) order, the overall discount looks to work out to 24% for standard GW stuff.
Ah well, still a decent deal if you find yourself looking to pick something up.

It's an additional 5% off The War Store's price, not the original GW list price. In other words, if a box is $25 from GW then The War Store normally sells it for 20% off which is $20. The additional 5% off would be off of the already discounted $20 price, not the original $25 price. It's a small percentage difference, but if you have a large order it adds up.

...but still results in MORE savings and MORE money in your wallet, right?
Anyway, you still win.
Just by a little bit more than before!

Yes it does result in even more savings. I don't understand why there were complaints over an additional discount on top of an already good discount, but I thought if I explained it in easy to understand terms it would at least cut out some of the complaints that sounded mystified as to how the whole thing worked.

It comes out to a 24% discount instead of 25%. $100 at 25% off is $75. $100 at 20% off is $80, then $80 at 5% off is $76. So you save $24 by shopping at the War Store, $4 of which by shopping this weekend. Plus if you're in a place with high sales tax you save whatever that is.

The whole 24% vs 25% is just a matter of how the books are kept. The 5% comes off after everything sits in your shopping cart:
So if we buy item A from GW:
A
at TWS prices we have:
0.8*A (yay discount!)
and once we type in "Black Friday" into our coupon code...
0.8*0.95*A=0.76*A . . . 1-0.76 = 0.24 = 24% off
If it was a flat 25% off the math would look like this
(.2+.05)*A
But this would be adding the discount before it sits in our cart, which is a recalculation for each item. . .
anyway, hope that explains it.

Touchee. For those of us residing in LA County, that's a hefty 9.75%.

So placed a order when it first went live and in the comments asked for GW stuff. Paypal came through today for the other stuff I ordered. Should I have gotten something for the GW stuff by now or are they just back logged?
NM got it as soon as I posted. Neal must be spying on me
