My army isnt going with the traditional gold/brass trim of khorne, I just do a brownish gold metal (I still need to do another wash of devlan mud on the silver so thats why it is so silver atm).

Yeah, I was actually thinking about washing the skin again to make it darker.

Ok sorry for lack of update, been more or less working on my actual WoC army and trying to get it painted (yay for painting my first army... even though Ive been playing for 4-5 years? [ http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/277791.page ] Theres a link to it if interested.). It isnt much of an update, I only finished up a tad of red on various armour and I did the first giant tusk (which was rather easy and I quite like the results!). I tryd to give the carved out section a light look as if it was recently carved in sense, as I would imagine the outside of the horn would be dirty from battle! Im debating on adding a gore type look but dont think I will. 1. Im not good at it 2. It wouldnt go with the rest of the models in the army. There should be a much bigger update tomorrow as I plan to work on it a bit more tonight and tomorrow, I was originally going to work on it alot monday but ended up cleaning my "Warhammer Room" all day as it was a disaster... :(


The second picture came out wierd, so try to judge the tusk off the first one. I think I was too close and the flash got all messed up. I think next time around I will take multiple pics of each shot so I have some options to choose from and get the best looking picture. C&C as always!

Ok well first of all, I got to use this guy in a game yesterday (and it was a normal game, not a seige game... 9000 points per side... I was allied with WarMonger33 actually) and wow... just wow... I had put a Tzeetch sorcerer lord on there giving him a 360 view and pretty much range of anything he wanted since it was in the middle of the board... But I think the best part out of everything of the mammoth is the mauraders... With MoK and Flails, giving 10 mauraders hooks and chains (this allows the to attack down from the mammoth without being attacked back, and for a mere 1 point per model), I get 20 str 5 attacks on the charge with mauraders and the mammoths trample does D6+the opposing units rank bonus str 10 hits... Needles to say I annihilated 2 20 man Warrior units (yes the game was Lizardmen/WoC vs WoC/Empire/HE)... It was an extremely fun game even though we lost due to cannons... we only had time to go to turn 3 before calling it however :(

On to the painting! So after that game I realized I need to start on the howda, cause tasty looking mammoth + grey resin howda = Bad... So I started on it and at the moment all it has on it is a base coat of Khemri Brown... after I do the boltgun metal and mechrite red, I will wash it entirely in Devlan Mud... Also as you can see theres that guy on the front holding on to mammoth fur... well you see I kind of lost the arm that it came with thats supposed to hold the mammoth fur but that arm was from the normal marauder sprue for holding shields... it fits perfect... why do I feel that the sculpter only used a shield arm with some fur popping out the top? Ah well, it looks fine imo (and even though in the pics the arm looks like its floating away from the body its actually glued on there and looks normal!). Other than that I havent done too much except for some slight boltgun metal on various spikes...

Ok seriously, if you were that mammoth do think some tiny little manling holding on to your fur... a rather small patch of your fur... is going to make you obey him? Odviously the forces of chaos are influenced greatly in the obedience of the mammoth

I like the altar. You should put a dead enemy on it with a chaos lord/sorcerer about to sacrifice him.

Have you considered using some graphite to chip/weather it up?

@ Munch Munch!... Actually the alter is a throne for the chaos lord which I have started painting!
@person person... I never thought about it, I might have to look into it.

So I finally have a rather "big" update for you. I have been working quite a bit the passed two days compared to normal, I got most of the silver/red on the howda base coated and have both front sides (not including the back ledge) washed wiched as you can tell... did ALOT!!
I also primed and painted the second tusk as well as the two side horns and the trunk and the two giant spikes on the front... needless to say it looks much more chaos'y! The trunk as you can tell has a mutated mouth thing that I tried to get a bloody effect on, although I might do a couple more coats of waterd down ard coat for a further glazed effect. I also started on the lord as stated above. I am quite pleased with how it is comming along. Let me know what you think!!!

Thanks Empchild, I wasnt sure if I wanted to make it darker or not and I thought I was going to add another devlan mud wash but after seeing the howda on there Im liking how it is and will probably leave it!

Ok so Ive been working a bit but not as much as I was erlier this week... I got the front and top part of the howda done, all thats left is the little "add on" on the back part... I decided I didnt want to glue the entire thrown to the howda as I might not always run a lord on it and what not, so I took a dremel to the bottom of it to make an indent big enough to fit a rather large sized magnet then glued on a few thin magnets to the bottom of the howda and I now have a magnatized throne! I also painted the guy riding the mammoth in front although I think Im going to do another wash on his skin.

On the other hand! My Giant Spawn arrived today and I did not hesitate to wash/build it! Needless to say I plan on priming it tomorrow and getting right on board the paint train! Its an absolutely beautiful model to say the least... it has a ton of character and I tryd to make it more "spawn like" than FW made theirs. I absolutely can not stand how the giant claw arms on its back were in a perfect allignment with each other, so I tryd to make them a bit different, even made sure all the bottom teeth on the beasty were all crooked and out of order!

Probably too late now, but I'd suggest swapping the mahout's (the one steering the elephant) axe for something more 'spiky hook on a stick'; a halberd might work. Elephants were traditionally steered using such things. It'd also make it easier for the mahout to stab things on the ground because I don't think that little axe is going to do much good. Then the fur grabbing is just to stop him falling off, not a steering thing.

I'm rather intimidated by the size of some FW resin products to even think about painting them, at this point!

@ Morgrim: That was actually my original plan, to put a spear, halberd, or something similar on him. However because of them being so long, they would either hit the mammoth fur, head armour, or the howda and they just wouldnt look right. I might try to find a better weapon later on however!

@Alpharius: Thanks! I was very intimidated by the chaos dragon when I started to paint that, but I will definitely say my painting has gotten way better just through painting these forgeworld "beasts".

i love this models, the chaos stuff has to be my all time favourite range of mini's from forgeworld and doing them to justice . Now get some WIP of that thing on the MoTM thread to liven it up

Wow, the Spawn looks freeky. Mammoth seems to have a tad of GS on his trunk.

Yeah there was a small gap but I had to fill it after painting otherwise it would be too hard to get details.

Ok everyone, sorry for the lack of updates lately... I have been rather frantically trying to paint my WoC army in order to make some tournament deadlines (Im tired of showing up with greys minis as its just a major let down especially after seeing other full painted armies and all the time put into them). So hopefully I can get back on track with all my Forgeworld stuff after this next tournament (so expact to see an update next week!).

So after seeing the new BattleFoam X-BOARD (its a great product I must say, I just dont have the kind of money to buy one, and in all honesty my army isnt quite an appropriate standard for a proper display board!) I decided to make my own, although its more of a Display tray just for moving models from point A to point B...

We basically bought some ply would, cut it to shape, cut out the handles, sanded down all the side panels, skrewed is all together, and then sanded all of it once more to give it a nicer looking finish (and to avoid splinter and sharp edges/corners!). Since is was made out of 1/2" thick plywould its quite durable and should last a long time. It actually measures out to be 17" by 24" (although the insides are 16" by 23" due to the 1/2" plywood!) with 4 1/2" high sides.

Its actually quite big as me and friends tend to do high point games (5000+ per side) and Id like to be able to carry my entire army as that was the point for making it! Eventually Im going to put some steel sheets on the inside so I can use it for transporting to my LGS thus saving me the time of pulling everything else... Im also thinking about making the bottom into an actual display board (get one of those long sheets of pre textured ground, and magnatize some hills or something), so if I ever due paint my army to a higher quality I can at least display it properly! Heres a couple pics with and without minis... just to show you how much it can actually hold, which in the picture is over 6000 points I believe, as there are like 6 or 7 heroes/lords you cant see infront of the warriors . And theres even still some room to spare!




Oh and for those of you who might be wondering, the tournament I played in yesterday was apart of the North American Tournament which lasts 3 months with one per month on a specific weekend... I got a massacre for my first game! Huzza!

Wow! I was thinking that the mammoth would distract us all from the beautiful warriors. But they all look great together!

Yes its a FW icon thats being pulled by a modified bloodthirster... you can see more pictures of it in my gallery. Actually WarMonger33 made it for me though so I cant take any credit on that one!

Well then, I am sorry for not updating for so long, almost three months now. I kind of got caught up in painting my army for some tournies and other stuff, also started Hordes so thats been keeping my busy, but I am finally back to finish this bad boy as well as my Great Chaos Dragon (whos thread I shall also update) and my Giant Chaos Spawn. So, Hopefull sometime during the weak I will give an actualy update on the Mammoth! In the meantime, here is a shot of my WIP WoC army thats been keeping me so busy...
