CC attacks in first turn?
You're kidding.
Its hardly doable.

At 500 points most people play on 4'x4'. I deploy perfectly in the centre at the front of my deployment zone the distance to the far corners will therefore be route of 2'^2 + 3'^2 which is 46", my charge range on turn 1 is 45", hence on a 4'x4' board I can assault anything on the table turn 1, serious how are you stopping that PF from crumping you with 3 auto hits plus 4 krak grenades auto-hitting if you're on the board?

That tank is gone turn 1 against Marines every time.

Well, you are right, if they play at a 4'x4' table, then a 1st turn charge is eventually possible.
Its also possible if the enemy fields Shrike or fast Scouters (e.g. RW Bikers).
Under this circumstances, I'd leave the army in reserve.
Then I'd consider an Autarch with fusion gun instead of a Farseer
in order to bolster reserve rolls.

Even on a 4'x6' unless you deploy each wave serpent perfectly in the corner Marines will get a charge on you first turn. I doubt too many people would bother fielding Shrike at 500 points but every SM worth his salt is likely to take an LSS full of scouts for the alphastrike which will cripple any shooty army and put most assaulty armies on the back foot (or annihilate any threatening vehicle dumb enough to deploy on the table, even with reserves if they out flank they've a decent chance of getting a shot at your rear armour with a combi-melta before the assault).

I can honestly say I have never seen a LSS/Powerfist scout combo before. If that was being fielded then like you said just go all in reserves, the chances of coming in from outflank and being in 12" with a clear rear shot is iffy at best.

I see them all the time particularly at low points levels where you've got more viable targets and less effective responses.

As for rear shots it is 12" move 3" deployment and then 6" melta range, though on rear 12" will probably be enough so a potential threat range of 27" from either board edge that is a total of 54" on a board likely to be 48" across... Or 42" to be within 2d6 range and follow up assault...

I'm not saying it is a given but the chances are pretty good if you've moved your Serpents forward at all and he can come on from the correct side (2/3 chance).

Just move your serpents up the board with your rear hugging the board edge or a piece of terrain, easy to block that one. heh

of course, you can always keep your serpents back to back... as the missile turret pivots, and just wait for the storm to hit the field... The latest list provides a fortune seer, so one of those serpents has re-rolling 4+ when turbo boosting.

Another option if your opponent outflanks two scout storms, (as thats probably all he'll have) is to place your serpents back to back, and use the guardians as a screen. Sure they'll take a beating from that speeder's heavy flamer, but they'll be pretty spread out to deny the scouts a charge on the serpents.

It would be one of the tougher matchups for this type of list, but I think its far from un winnable.

Yeah, I personally feel that if someone took 2 LSS with scouts and a powerfist they would get creamed. Getting a solid melta shot off is iffy if you playing right and banking on a powerfist hitting of 6s is a big gamble. In return you would blow them to hell.
