Alright will do! I'll try to have some pics in a week or so. Thanks for all the help!

NOOOO Embrace the yellow! J/k, but you reminded me, this is how I do white armoured marines with yellow in the highlights, might give the thread creator a nice step by step look and hopfully will convince you to buy some yellow paints!

Wow that is some awesome work. I really liked the glowing eyes effect that you got going there.

I woke up this morning ready to post the exact same question for advice.
That is seriously freaky.

Any suggestions for a complemettary colour to white specifically with Tyranids in mind. I want to avoid blues/blacks.

Yes was thinking of a green myself. However I only have dark angles green (too dark for me) and goblin green (too boring and I base my guys with it too).

Any other "alien" looking green you'd recommend?
Brown is a very interesting suggestion too, I'd just be concerned from a distance it might be too dark.

Use the complementary to the 'shade' of white. If it's a yellow/brown white, run with a purplish complement. If it's a blue white, try something orangey.

Actually, I've had one idea for tyranid armour inspiration and I promised myself I would do it next nid I do, it is a colour scheme based off of a deep sea creature that looks like a lobster tail has gained sentience.

Tell me that thing doesn't look like it was spawned in deep space. A nice white with some organic pink/tope undertones. The rest of the armour a similar white, add a red for large nids.

@ Smog, I just think it looks a little too pale?

It would be rather pale, but I think that adds some creepy organicness, you'd have to turn up the contrast a bit. Also there are other pics of giant isopods, their shells are rather dynamic, containing pinks, oranges and even blues, they also have spotting on the tail which can be used all over important models. I really suggest finding a creature in nature a replicating the tiny characters of their carapace. The best nids I've seen are very close recreations of nature.

Unless i'm mistaken this is Cyril's SM head/glowing eyes tutorial, not Smoghousepaintingco's work. Of course, he could be Cyril under a different name.

Thank you for finding his name, I had been looking for his name to find more of his work. His weathering is out of this world, no one can make a scratch on a hull look as realistic and sized down as him. What is his full name?

Cyril Abati.

You can find the translated tute here - http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1288-glowing-eyes-by-cyril

And as amazing a painter as he is, i'd be inclined to disagree about the weathering. He's known for some of the most cartoony and stylised damage and weathering on the planet.

His work is fantastic though isn't it?

I meant his weathering is the most to scale, it is very cartoony look but his highlighting on a scratch is so small that it actually fits the scale of the model, which I can't think of many others who can create this hair thin line. Totally amazes me, he's made me completely step my game up when it comes to painting, I love his work.

Ahh ok. I forget that most people here arn't that familiar with display level work. This scale of tiny painting is the norm for display painters. Nothing out of the ordinary, but he does do it well of course, and with such style.

Please forgive me if I come across a little blase, it's just because I see this level painting all the time where I hang out.

I do to, that's why I appreciate the way in which he does it. He is so confident with brush strokes, blows my mind. Where others would baby a sharp angle this guy pulls it off with 1 layer.

Ahh cool, sorry mate. I must have seemed a little presumptuous to assume that most on Dakka are tt painters.

I just didn't recognise your forum name from anywhere painty I know online that's all (though there's plenty of others out there), and as you had no pics in you gallery I couldn't effectively judge your level. My apologies.

Yeah, I saw your first attempt at it, wow. forget that its your first, that is very nice work. One question about whites, most white is made with an opaque pigment, so do you or anyone know of a very transparent white? It's a weird question but people who know their pigments will understand what i mean.
