Nice take on Hydra! Glad to see another army with the scheme, as it's one of my favorite Tyranid ones. I like the purple faces, it really draws the eye. Your conversions are also very well done.

I'm not a huge fan of the Tyrant wings, though. Why did you choose to mount them around the hips? Two sets of twin-linked Devourers is a total of four Devourers - your model has eight. You could remove half of them and still be legal. All you have to do is remove the top arms, put the wings there, spend a few minutes touching up the paint damage, and done! I think it would look much better.

Overall great stuff, really hope to see more!

Hey everyone,

I have been continuing to paint my nids since the last update and I'll post some pics of the army's progress very soon, but in the meantime I thought I'd show you some pics of some terrain I'm building in anticipation of having a painted army. Got to have a great table--to me, that means a zuzzy mat and the appropriate amount (~25%) of varied, painted terrain-- if your going to try to "forge that narrative" properly. So, basically, every week on my way home from the office, I pop in to my buddy's place to put in a couple hours on terrain/the table. It's going to be well worth it in the end, I think. This piece is not finished, but it's quite close. Comments, as always, are appreciated.

Hello,

I've been hammering away at my Nids and have painted a bunch of models. I'll get around to posting some pics soon. For now, here are some pics of my first zoanthrope.

Zoanthrope looks good mate, really nice use of parts, the only thing is he needs another set of limbs! Nids have 6.

Thanks, sheep. I've been enjoying your nids, too. I don't want to stifle my creativity by following too closely to the arbitrary "6-limbs" idea. Never made sense in an army characterized by varied and hyper-evolved organisms. Also, there are a few tyranid models that don't have 6 limbs

Thanks, Overlord Thraka. I'm going to have to start keeping score on this blog. People are divided on the point of the purple faces. It seems some people love them (myself included) and a smaller, but still significant number think it looks weird.

I like the purple faces also!

I love you army, the conversions for starters are really cool and add a unique but sensible touch to it, your paint job has a kind of cartoonish feel to it, they could almost be from some mixture of TMNT and DBZ, which is very much a compliment, to your skill at painting neatly and sharply and making it all pop, as well as your amazing colour scheme (the purple faces are what makes this army for me - absolutely excellent!).

Don't know where you found Plasma hatchers in 2013 - I was looking for them for my Tyranid pods and couldn't find them anywhere online or irl. In the end I went with a more professional conversion, but for your army I think the plasma hatchers would actually suit it better than any other spore conversion I've seen or can imagine, would.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

Hi SHUPPET,

Thanks for the high praise!

I can see the aesthetic similarities between my project and TMNT and DBZ now that you point it out.

Almost nothing in my list is a stock, unconverted model, so I'm happy you dig the conversions. Also, I'll jot you down as pro purple faces! I love them too, but I'm kind of biased

Ah, Plasma hatchers were very difficult to get a hold of. I managed to find a cache in the UK and I bought 8. They were being sold by Tesco online. I shipped them to my brother who was studying at Oxford at the time. He brought them to me when he returned to Japan.

I've checked for you just now, but they've sold out. :(

I just wanted to add an action shot from a game this past weekend:

It was the beginning of an escalation league (starting at 500 pts) and I had an awesome first turn.

I rolled a 13 (no doubles) for one tervigon, and a 14 (no doubles) for the second tervigon.

Here's how it looked at the bottom of turn 1:

Love when that happens

The army looks great, my nods have purple faces too, inspired by hydra, but the scheme is yellow and purple.

Look forward to more as the new codex bug bites all us India players (pun intended )

Thanks, Eldercaveman I totally agree that there are some great nid blogs to be found on dakka these day. I'd like to see your stuff too because I get some ideas (big and small) nearly every time I look at other's work!

I have been doing some nids recently: a couple pyrovores, 8 ymgarls, and more of the endless termagants (shudder, 82 is the magic number). But recently, and buddy and I started a gaming club here in Tokyo. It's been a plan we've had for a while. Our goal is to be able to lay down about 4 tables of high quality painted terrain and painted gaming mats (zuzzy). I want each table to have one large size LOS blocking terrain, so thats what I've been working on when I'm not pursuing Splinter Fleet Laenea. Here are two works in progress:

Building 1:

With a riptide for scale!

Building 2:

This building needs a little more work than the previous building.

Hey guys,

2nd update this week

This is a team of Ymgarls I just completed. I hope they'll have a place after the new codex hits. As always, comments are appreciated!

I've been doing quite a lot of painting recently, as I've been getting ready for a monthly meeting of my club for month 2 of our escalation league. This month were at 750.

I'm running a triple tervigon horde list, we'll see how I do. I never want to batch paint 30+ gants again. Shudddeeeerrrrr.

I hear you, I have only painted 24 of them, but it seems with the new codex we are going to need a lot more little grublies!

Thanks guys...I'm jumping on the new models ASAP.

I'm thinking:

2 Crones
2 Haruspex

I still have 3 carnifexs, 2 tygons, 1 tervigon, 20 gargoyles, and 30ish gene stealers to paint. It's gonna be monster heavy in this blog for the next half unless the vanguard data slate makes genestealers viable.

Next up is going to be my third tervigon. I will only have 2.5 days from primed to finished, which is a serious rush by my standards. I'll post some shots of it in action next week.

Thanks for following

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

Awesome stuff! I coulda sworn I've seen some of this over on Warpshadow, by chance do you frequent there?

I particularly like the differently-coloured faces, it helps them stand out from the rest of the model.

The only criticisms I would have are:

>The Tyranid Prime's legs/pelvis are too big. It looks kinda disproportionate.

>The Hive Tyrant just looks a bit...eh. It's nicely painted and all, but having the wings hang off the bottom of his torso carapace just looks wrong.

Other than that, I look forward to future updates!

Working on a bastion that will house a venomthrope in many of my Nid lists. It's still WIP. I wanted to make it look well worn and abandoned in the face of a nid swarm. Thoughts?
