EW vs
ID all over again.
If a model (or unit) is not allowed to do something that is a restriction on the model/unit. Whether the restriction is a benefit to the other player doesn't matter.
Night Fighting does 2 things
1. restricts targeting on a firing unit
2. confers a bonus to cover saves dependent on distance.
Searchlights only remove one of the two.
this could go on forever. As I said, the
RaW don't specify what is a restriction and what is a benefit. It's a matter of point of view. The
RaW are indeed written as restrictions of firing, all of them. It's under the heading of "Picking a Target and Night Fighting" not "Being a Target and Night Fighting".
It all has to be a matter of opinion since benefits and restrictions are not defined terms. Nor are the rules that are listed ever refered to as beneftis of restrictions.
For true clarity purposes the rules for "Picking a Target and Night Fighting" should have included which are benefits or restrictions.
Or the rules for search light should have been written either like this "Illuminated units may be fired upon as normal" or "Illuminated units no longer gain stealth or shroud during night fight".
