There is also that hand held exclusive Squad Commander game. AH yes, I'd forgotten about them, but that in itself speaks more to the fact that there has never been an age or period of time when GW had "monolithic" license agreements on multiple platforms. They had a few games here and there.

If Slitherine is involved, the game(s) will likely be pretty deep, being that they're a serious wargame company.
I've bought from Matrix for years. War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition being my major passion.

I think they probably mean more that instead of Dawn of War ( PC) tying up the whole 40K universe on that platform they might licence more specific individual titles, so multiple 40K games on each platform at once

I don't understand, if this was a way to make a quick buck, why not just rush DoW3, I mean the Dawn of War franchise is essentially GW's video game version of the money printing machine. I mean their were a crapton of rumors that DoW3 was in the works with relic before they went belly up, doesn't seem a far stretch that CA could finish the job and pump out DoW3 for either 2013 or 2014.

Why are they mutually exclusive? There is lots of titles to be transferred to computer, why not give Slitherine a go?

Because when Sega bought Relic from THQ they could have just continued with DoW3 straight off the bat, it doesn't make sense to hand off the license to another company when essentially Sega held both the 40k licence and the Fantasy licence already. I mean Slitherine can hardly use the product material that Relic were working on including the fact that this is going to be a turn based game so it can't be DoW anyway.
What I'm saying in short is it makes no sense to hand off the license to a new company to make a game in a few months of unknown quality, when you already had a game from a developer that has made your previous games successful in the works....

There is no "the license" anymore, I believe that was the whole point. Slitherine making turn-based 40k games does not stop someone else taking up DoW license.

you may well find that the licence transfer has allowed GW to modify it
ie remove the exclusivity, so Sega/Relic can put out DoW3, but other companies can be licenced to make other types of 40K games on pc
so look to find RTS (Sega/Relic), turn based (Slitherine), FPS (depends how space marine did in actual profit), etc

Battle Academy is by far my best iPad App purchase. It's the only game I consistently come back to, so if they can do the same with 40k, I'll be willing to drop 20+ bones for it.

As promised here a first scoop: first Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon art pictures. Lordz is working heavily on this game, finally we can tell you about it.
Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon is hitting a variety of platforms in 2014! This project is a new original title and brand new game hex-based, turn-based strategy wargame.

I can't lie, this description and this screenshot has me at least three quarters turgid. I hope they don't mess this up.

What bothers you about it? English isn't their first language, and the models look pretty good. It's going to be at the high level, so it's important to keep things relatively simple and low-poly. That said, I think they look solid, and I've played some of Slyherine's games before and enjoyed them. Happy to finally see something!

3/4 turgid = 3/4 hard. The dude is psyched about the game-- can't say I blame him. Field of Glory is not a great tabletop game IMO (I prefer the Warhammer Ancients style vs. the DBx style of games) but it is well done and unambiguious. Slitherine is probably the most trustworthy company I could think of to make a good turn based miltary sim right now. Dawn of War was nice, but it was the same kind of click-fest RTS games I mostly dislike. This Epic game probably is much more up my alley.

Not familiar with turgid being used that way; guess I learn something new every day!
I love the Dawn of War games, but I'm happy for a change of pace. XCOM proved that there's still a market for a well done turn-based strategy game, so I'll just echo my excitement for this game yet again

It's turn based. For an RTS, you've got the Dawn of War series, which I'm imagining will still get a third title. While Sega owns Relic now, they also have the Warhammer Fantasy license, so it wouldn't surprise me to keep everything under one roof.
