Looks like you guys have a fun group going here. Looking forward to seeing what wrinkles you come up with in your battles and campaigns. Is it more narrative or map based or ... Good stuff so far.

Thanks! It's escalation so we started at 750 and now we are at 1k, next round is 1.5k. We have been adding to or starting new forces for the campaign (to a greater or lesser extent) and using the games as an impetus to get stuff completed (or not) we had a mini challenge last round to create objective markers and secret objectives to try and complete in game PM'd to us by a 3rd party (I don't think anyones managed one yet!). I will try to complete this later (when I get back). Automatically Appended Next Post: Blood Angles turn 5 A general advance sees a mass of bodies surrounding the Relic now, still held by the 2 remaining DC. The Pred moves to block LOS as much as it can, it wounds a Broadside who makes his cover save. The advancing HF Tacks manage a wound on the newly arrived Fusion team but that's all. The block house becomes increasingly crowded as suits jockey for position to gain LOS on the Relic bearers. The Fusion/ plas team finally knocks out the Pred but leaves it as a wreak, no explosions. The MP teams only manage to kill one DC leaving the Relic guy alive. The Tau HQ swoops down to gain better LOS on the action.. The last DC hands over the 'Relic' to the Priest, the Tau realise why the BA have been fighting so hard.... The rest of his squad want in too... The HF Tacks advance to provide covering fire and manage another wound... The LC tacks remind everyone they exist by slicing a suit in 2 with a pin point Lascannon strike....and in the most important event of the game the Rhino fixes itself after crashing on turn 2! There's a general Tau advance desperate to stop the BA escape, the HQ markers the Assault unit and kills one himself. the FB/ Plas team only manages another and the MP teams are ineffectual. The Broadies unable to see the Ass squad nail a few Tack in the open. The dice is rolled and it's a 2, it's GAME OVER MAN. Blood Angels Win. A very disappointing start from the Tau (again) but MLCS has promised he's got routing off the table on turn 1 out of his system now, that short ranged team could have been lethal to DS angels....3 flamers and 3 burst cannon and a bunch of drones could have made a mess of them. Still a very valiant attempt to stay in the game I think. This was the first game we played this day, next up was me ( IG) vs the BA.....see who prevails soon(ish).

Scrotox Chapter 2 (1,000 points), part 2 – Arse-tra Militarum Vs F-Arse-ight Enclaves...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
After several hours of seemingly aimless meandering through the coarse and undulating Gooch of Scrotox XIII, the two XV88 pilots signalled to one another and turned onto a barely discernible trail leading to a jagged outcrop of rocks.
“Are we to find El'Vior here brothers?” questioned B'Nim, with barely disguised impatience.
One of their mysterious guides laughed with genuine humour “ El'Vior? No one knows where he is. Some say he leads the Gue'La resistance deep within the capital, or that he perished under the tracks of an Imperial Behemoth at Flange months ago. The truth matters little for it is El'Qath who leads us here against the Gue'La Shas from Ultramar”.
“Ultramar?” Ejaculated Or'Es from the column's rear “We bested the crimson warriors of Baal; surely you are mistaken?”.
Both hulking XV88s responded with only silence, until one of them spoke: “Make haste, for El'Qath has engaged the Gue'la not two Tor'Kans from here and we must play our part...”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We rolled up Big Guns with four objectives and Hammer and Anvil deployment. The field of glory:
Randy's Commissar Lord Combrink gained the Warlord Trait 'Belowing Voice', while Shas' El'Qath proves himself to be an 'Exemplar of The Selfless Cause'.
Objectives were placed in each of the three-level buildings and in the two central ruins...
The forces prepare for waaaaarg:
I won the roll for edge and first turn (it was a pretty symmetrical board) and deployed as such:
A traditional Tau force can benefit from H&A, particularly against an enemy with even moderate assault elements. Unfortunately in this case my stubbly little Battlesuits would struggle to reach out to Randy's gun line. Because of this I deployed my burst/flamer team relatively deep and set the fusion/plasma team into DS reserve. Railsides as usual were anchored into cover on my right while the mass of missiles and markers attempted to take cover from the inevitable initiative stealing that had become somewhat of a joke in our current games. I committed to re deploy deeper into my left when the game begun.
With a quite grumble, Randy's plucky guardsman deploy with a smattering of long-range S8 on either flank and his unbreakable conscripts at the centre. His Vets and Chimera await in walk-on reserve:
Before the Tau forces can say 'Fishsticks', Randy unsurprisingly besieges the cheese :(
Find out what happens after I've had m'dinner!!

With the amount of initiative seizing going on over there, do you guys just choose to set up second when you win the roll off to deploy?

Yep but you know that as soon as one of us does that, the spell will be broken...
The battle continues!
Turn 1:
The order to advance is given and Randy's conscripts move up towards the objective close to them in no man's land. Enough of the 'scripts lasguns are in range to destroy one of the burst/flamer Crisis Team's drones.
A new addition to the campaign, the Sentinel squadron picks carefully through its cover in order to get range on the broadsides, forcing one of the hulking battlesuits to go to ground or suffer an instant death wound.
Three more of the gun drones are shattered under the Wyvern's barrage of shells and a further drone goes down to autocannon fire from the infantry platoon's heavy weapons teams. The Leman Russ fires its battle cannon at the same unit but the shot scatters wildly. My burst/flamer Crisis Team holds, despite the terrifying barrage.
Finding the majority of its guns out if range of the guard formation, the burst/flamer, Commander and right flank missile teams engage their jet packs and scoot towards the central objectives, using the ruins on their right for cover. The Broadsides' heavy rail rifles fail to make their mark however two conscripts are asploded by missiles.
Turn 2:
The Imperial gun line continues to hold steady while the Conscripts make some small progress towards their target objective. Despite both opposing units in the centre working to close range, the 'scripts fail to hit my burst flamer team. Once again the Russ' battle cannon/las prove ineffectual however the Sentinel squadron is much more successful and doubles out one of my Railsides; earning Randy a VP for Big Bums and a VP for First Blood. Oh Lordy.
Scattering Wyvern shells wound one of the central MP battle suits but the combined firing of the Guard's rocket and autocannon teams fail to score any kills. In other news, the Vets arrive in their Chimera and park out of LoS next to the Wyvern.
The clouds of cordite are parted briefly by the arrival of my fusion/plasma crisis team however due to the small size of the Tau force I decide against 'suicide dropping' them into Randy's left-flank car park and instead they land on my right in order to assist with cleaning up the conscripts and then hopefully could turn their attention to his Sentinel squadron.
Finally in range of the conscripts, my Commander lights them up and strips their cover, enabling the burst team to kill four of them. MP crisis teams turn their attention to Randy's rocket teams on my right ( LoS to the 'scripts is limited at this point) but fail to wound them.
I had mentioned earlier to Randy that I was looking forward to seeing a plasma cannon fire for the first time in maybe three editions; unfortunately at this point one of the railsides zapped it off the leading Sentinel .
In the tussle to find range and cover in the ruins, the already wounded MP team takes two wounds on dangerous terrain, causing it to break and fall back four inches!
Stay tuned for more later!!!

Turn 3:
The Tau deployment at turn three – one objective is held by the missile team on the left and another by the remains of the flamer/burst team and Commander in the centre.
Randy's conscripts move back behind the central ruins to further reduce LoS from the approaching Battlesuits, and the veterans flat out their Chimera to reinforce.
The Russ' battlecannon finally makes its mark and vaporises two of the burst/flamer suits, causing them to fall back, and a barrage from the Wyvern wounds Commander Quath.
The Sentinel team turn their sights to the newly arrived plasma/fusion team and double out one of the battlesuits with a lucky lascannon shot, despite the unit going to ground. The team then proceeds to fall back towards the Tau line!
Fortunately both battlesuit teams rally and the Commander and right-flank missile team work together to destroy Randy's entire rocket launcher squad. The remaining Railside wakes up and strips a HP from the Vet's Chimera.
The remaining battlesuits reposition to weather another torrent of fire from the Imperial Guard however at this point Randy's victory seems almost certain...
Turn 4:
Confident in their relative safety, and with reassuring 'threats' from the warm, tea-filled veterans in their Chimera, the conscripts are goaded out into the open and secure their objective.
Randy's firebase does for a few more marker drones, and with an unprecedented show of accuracy from the 'scripts (7 hits) kill the remaining missile suit in the centre.
Sentinels continue to show off by destroying two of the three missile suits that had begun to advance on my right.
With few forces left to marshal, Shas' El'Quath calls for a tactical withdrawal and I concede the game there.
Another victory for Combrink's Ultramar PDF!
Thoughts on the game:
This was another good example of how critical deployment is with a small, short ranged elite force. I think years of playing against a charging Blood Angel horde has led me to over egg the benefits of deploying far back. When facing Randy's gunline it becomes necessary to take the fight to him, and to do so in only a few turns as it really only takes a 'hit' with the battle cannon to remove a massive percentage of my force. Next time I'll be sure to play more aggressively and use my excellent mobility more frequently.
Randy deployed sensibly and has become more confident in using his priest/conscripts combo to contest objectives. Having to run the gauntlet of a battery of 36”+ heavy weapons certainly gives me a taste of my own fish medicine.
Stay locked in as Combrink's XV are once against pressed into service against Mephistoned's heretical hair-product worshipping Blood Angels in...

Were there no frisbee induced panic tests off the board this game? I thought that was your signature move.
It’s alway fun to play different armies then we are used to. Kicks you out of the comfort zone and makes you use your army to the fullest.
Looks like a fun battle, thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed them!!
Well done MLCS I enjoyed reading that as it was a while ago now, I know how much time these take. I'm looking forward to the BA clash as I can't remember much of that battle, most of it was eclipsed by the bigger game (not part of the campaign) we played the following day.

It’s one thing to but a bolt round into a guardsman to rally the squad, but capping crisis suits is going to get expensive fast

There's no necro on a personal thread, just delayed praise.
Really glad you enjoyed it, I think it's the funniest writing we've done. There are a few other BatReps we've done in different combinations but the biggest we're Alex and I's Apocalypse reports.
It did fizzle out and major life events overtook us all, I did really enjoy it and would be up for doing more or this or a new thing, maybe even in (or including) KT (*cough*hint*cough).
