I decided to have a break from the fort to try and see if I could manage to design a flat packable tower, this is what I ended up with:

This is the tower disassembled:

This is about as tall as the fort and I am thinking that it could make a good base for a taller tower (also wondering how long before I glue the whole thing together and abandon this silly flat packable idea...)

Thanks for looking!

i like the flat and packable scheme... it is a nice twist...and has its uses...
the tower base looks promising...but do work on the fort some more too

So I decided that I didn't like the tower as it didn't really fit in the fort and just looked out of place as a feature of it, so I have set about designing a new one:

This one is incorporated into a section of wall so the fort will be bigger and it should improve the overall look considerably.

Still waiting on the hex rod to arrive so I can finally paint some of the sections so almost finished the tower wall/base last night:

Not exactly sure what will go on the top, maybe a crane of some sort...

Thanks for looking!

whats that video software you made the vid with?
very good video by the way, nice effects and your fort is of curse the star... for the next vid i would suggest checking for focus and lighting...

Cheers! I use Xsplit broadcaster.

The new webcams autofocus seems to have a mind of its own, but i should get a handle on it eventually. As for the lighting, the new place for videos is not great and I only have a single led lamp instead of 2 now, but I will try to make it more acceptable. Was it to bright or dark or too much contrast?

That other guys fort is amazing I know great inspiration!

Cheers for the feedback!

Hey guys, so I spent a lot of time yesterday getting the basic for painted, there will still be a lot of additions which will add some much needed colour and interesting details, but for now, the basic fort is painted:

The paint really makes the details pop and makes the hours spent 'shaving' the edged of every part to look damaged worth it!

Great job.

Painting wise would be nice if you painted a few panels with different colours to break a bit of the monotony.

Cheers!

I know what you mean! I am working on some glyphs and a massive Ork skull glyph for the side of the tower at the moment, hoping to add some colour that way, though not sure exactly how yet...

For the look I was going for (Waterworld Atol) I am very happy with the paint job, though I think it does need some colour to pull off the 'orky vibe' better.

Cheers! I did all the painting in about 3-4 hours last night (excluding the priming of course). So the steps I used are; primed black, heavy stippled dark brown, stippled red and then light stippled orange before hitting the lot with a silver dry brush. Fairly simple when I look at it like that!

Added the first bit of colour to the fort by means of a bloody great Ork skull!

Images for those who don't want to watch the video:

This is it painted to match the rest of the fort before I added the colour:

that new glyph/skull looks amazing! since it is facing inside i gather it is sort of motivational more to your orks inside than menacing to the possible attackers...nice idea!

i like the eyebrows, gives lots of character, and no, can´t see any blue on that tooth, but i wouldn´t worry about that as it looks as if it is an equivalent of a false tooth there^^

also... dunno if it is planned, but are the eyes on head height for the orks? that would be a cool extra...

and i think you need to improve the painting on the backside of the glyph as much of it will be seen from the outside of the fort...so there is need of some ...well..structure... rivets, rust and as you said supports...

very well done!!!

Yeah I liked the idea of it facing inwards while still being visible from outside like it's peering over the walls, I like your idea of being there for motivation as well!

Unfortunately the eyes are too high for the orks to look out of, i had planned for that to be the case, though when it was made I found it to be too tall to be put at that height and look right.

Thanks! Yeah I see what you mean, I will probably add some detail to it, I am almost thinking it should have a ladder up the back as access to whatever I stick on the top of the tower, what do you think?

yeah, good thinking there! maybe some smallish platforms for each eye to be used by grots with big megaphones to sound commands at the noobs below?^^

Hey Guys,

I have started to work on some more of the substructure for the fort and wanted to see if a curved 'lean-to' building could be made to flat pack. here is how it came out:

This is it flat packed:

And it will even work as an 'end piece' for using the fort as a wall, as seen here:

I think it could also work well as a stand alone piece of terrain too.

that is an interesting concept... will it have doors? or windows too?... it looks very promising, but i am a bit puzzeld as to what it would be used, in terms of the fort...storage?...a mek shop?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
and is it inside the fort? how much space is it using up?...it wouldn´t make sense outside as it would make it easier for invaders to use it as a "ramp" to get inside...

You assume that I plan these things?

My thinking was that it would be a building for the Mob to live in, so I have planned to put a door into the sides, though not sure about the windows. It should be for use internally, though with it's current size it does use up around a quarter of the 'courtyard' space so I might have to redesign.

I mainly built it to see if the idea of a curved roof was a workable idea really, and I think that it is to some degree.

Here's some pictures I have taken with it in the fort:

Looking at it; it might actually be big enough for a Trukk garage!

It looks great! That curved surface opens up a lot of possibilities for you.

I'm curious, what kind of plastic card are you using and where do you get it. You're going through a lot of it so I'm guessing you have a pretty inexpensive source.

Cheers! It's mostly white 1mm plasticard, I tend to look on ebay when I need some and you can get 5 A4 sheets for around £4. I would estimate that I have used around 5-7 sheets of A4 so far, the great thing is that due to the random cut nature of the way I build; I actually waste every little of it.

The styrene hex rod, tubing and textured sheets are a little more expensive at around £1-3 each and so I use them sparingly. I think I have spent roughly £5 on the hex rod for the bolts alone!

That's impressive for only a few A4 sized sheets. I'm a graphic designer and send a lot of work to sign shops. They send scraps of plastic card and sintra along with jobs when I'm running low. If you have one in your area, you could probably work out a deal with them.

Cool orkfort! I'm impressed that this can be transported flat and assembles rigidly. Do you have pictures with boys standing on the battlements?

Thanks! I will have to show a picture or two of how small it collapses down sometime. Here is the only Picture I have to hand with an ork on the battlement:

it's a fairly old one as you will see from the level of progression of the fort
