Hastings (Man, it feels weird to write that! Anyone who knows me IRL knows why! ) already gave a the lowdown on what happened to BB in a thread on Warseer.

Hastings on Warseer wrote:There was a planned limited release of BB a while back, IIRC there were 4 teams done in plastic all individual models, however with the failure of Dreadfleet it was scrapped (or so I was told). Just another example of GWs stupidity, by equating that because "Dreadfleet" didn't sell then "Blood Bowl" wouldn't???? Well done GW because they are very equatable products, 1 being a NEW game that didn't even have the 2 opposing fleets like Man O War used to as opposed to a game with a very large fanbase still played the world over! like I said before ... finger on the pulse?

The way I understood what I was told the BB set could be played like a regular game of BB OR as kind of a campaign where a human team (1 of the 4 in box teams) played against the other 2 and then went on to face the Chaos All Stars in the final. Not sure how it would have worked but that's how it was explained to me. IIRC the teams were humans, orcs, elves and Chaos All Stars. I don't know how far along the project got as I had conflicting accounts of how many teams etc. etc. but I feel it was a hugely missed opportunity. Indeed it could have been very popular, can you imagine plastic boxes of BB teams, plastic multi part stadiums etc. etc. but nope, seems it's sadly not to be. Not to worry too much, you can get wonderful custom made pitches from F-F Fields (like my Chaos Dwarf Zufbar Ziggurats pitch) and many excellent teams from some awesome companies. GWs loss.

Heh, you beat me to posting that. Yep, GW, in it's infinite wisdom, somehow concluded from the failure of Dreadfleet that the community didn't want a 25th anniversary release of Blood Bowl.

What are you all babbling about?

Obviously noone wants to play any of the GW specialist games, judging by the complete lack of other companies making anything similar to Blood Bowl or Battlefleet Gothic, over a decade or more later. Especially not by any company paying ex-GW employees who wrote those exact games to write a similar one for them, and then using that pedigree as a main selling point.....

Nope, zero interest, just like GW tells us, even as they license computer games specifically modelled after those games.

As much as blood bowl can fit into any sort of construct of course

When you're right, you're right.

Well, technically the world of Blood Bowl is different than the one of WHFB.

They basically go along with the same plot until two armies stumble across an ancient temple (with a strange, rectangular center and rows of seats all facing inwards) that turns out to contain a holy book of a god called Nuffle that's rules for a game. All the races like it so much that they stop having wars and instead use Blood Bowl teams to decide conflicts. And then they enjoy the game so much that the conflict bit gets ignored when sponsorships come around.

It's a world where a farmer from Altdorf can sit down between a Elf and a Chaos Warrior, and the three of them will all have the same team jersey on and be booing at the guys on the other side of the pitch, and then head out for some McMurtys afterwards.

Oh, but you see, the profit margin on casting tiny metal spaceships to use with free rules that have existed for years might only be 20%. Why would anyone want 20% profit when you could crank out the 1000th iteration of a space marine and make 50% profit off direct order plastic sprues and barely-changed codex (now in hardback!)?

And thus was peace found upon the Warhammer World....

Sad truth, I would actually have been more interested in Warhammer: Age of BloodBowl than in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar....

The Auld Grump - though I fear me that the next big thing could be Warhammer 40,0000: Age of the Emperor*....

* Actually, I fear that less than I did when AoS came out - the lack of enthusiasm that has greeted AoS will likely be the saving of 40K. And I think that 30K may be the first really good move that GW has made in quite some time, if the rules pan out.

Kilkrazy wrote:When I was a young boy all my wargames were narratively based because I played with my toy soldiers and vehicles without the use of any rules.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

I can't be the only one that doesn't hate the Sigmarine models, can I? If nothing else, their paints worked out very well for my Sanguinary Guard and the gold parts on all of my other models. If they made rules that were actually good, I wouldn't be opposed to buying some.

Hopefully that ends up being the case. Maybe fans will come out with something if they haven't already.

I'd assume it's got something to do with the LotR stuff moving to a specialist studio. If it's going to affect sales channels, then training for sales reps is something they'd need to do.

I do like them in an "Asguardian superhuman soldiers that have a dark side to their existance" way.

I think we have a winner here.

I can't believe there'd be another major release a few weeks after HH that we have heard nothing about.

That being said, no one's mentioned that it will be plastic Battle Sisters?

I think it's plastic Battle Sisters.

I mean surely, it's time now no?

Are these two things connected?

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/670148.page

Not to split discussion, just wondering - seems like a bit much of a coincidence for there to be a special training, and then all of a sudden GW (could be) acknowledging the existence of their specialist games again and actually trying to somewhat support / sell them.

Split the difference? Plastic female Cadians?

Sculpted by Victoria Lamb?

Anyway... I would not have high hopes about the return of Specialist Games. If this is just happening now I'd say we're a year or more from their first release, and who knows what it would be. Taking Blood Bowl off the shelf seems the likely move, companies hate to see development money go to waste, so no, I don't see any Epic or Mordheim or Necromunda coming anytime soon.

Maybe if whoever made that awful default MS Paint size image could spell words properly...

Could you link to the actual facebook post? I'd like to be able to verify where that's from vs just some random facebook attachment if it's all the same

As to it being a crappy MS Paint image.. I've seen plenty of office memos that had spelling errors and were done in paint by some non-graphic artist. Given GW's tendency to fire their competent artists, I think that's a feasible scenario. Time will ultimately tell though either way and I don't feel like we'll have long to wait on this one.

Yep, seems logical. FW changing it's role, transfer of LOTR stuff and potential appearance of several returning SG's is certainly something that would require training for the sales reps.
