Sadly most of this stuff is seemingly OOP.

The McVey stuff isn't OOP.

It's STILL in production.
It's the limited ed RESIN ones that are not commonly available.

Are you sure? They don't seem to have any other ones on their store?

Obscure doesn't mean OOP, it just means unknown or rare

Great idea for a thread!

Here's a blast from the past Cell Entertainment's 1999 line.

I think Cell went out of business around 2003, and sadly no one has picked up their molds.

I should've banned OOP, these are way too great and they make me jealous of whoever has them.

These are great. Shame they're metal, though, completely out of my price range.

I LOOOVE the Hell Dorado line.

Here's a couple of my favorite, though I'm saddened to see that many within the game/line are going OOP:

Another possibly obscure line is from Enigma Miniatures US:

Yeah, some of the Hell Dorado minis are great, but the game seems to be in its death throes sadly.

Enigma have some fantastic sculpts indeed, I'm lucky enough to own quite a few of them, though sadly none of them are painted.
**Edit, hang on, Isn't Enigma a Spanish company, not a US one?

Here's some more "obscure" stuff:

Minotaur by Figone:

Pythonne (OOP) for the Femme Militant range:

Alguacil by Tercio Creativo:

Demon by (OOP) JMD:

Everything for Helldorado should still be available but only via the Soda Pop miniatures store (it's not distributed any mote) and it's going to carry on getting new releases for a while too

From Khurasan Miniatures. Most of their stuff is 15mm and god I love 15mm. Shame no one else seems to enjoy it.

Yes, however, if one goes to a webstore such as FRP games, they will find those minis under "Enigma US" as apparently there's some kind of US distributor or something?

Good to know that... Though, just looking through the Soda Pop site, it looks like the Westerners faction hasn't been updated to the site, has been dropped, or something since none of them are there. This also explains why FRP Games has them listed as OOP.

Edit: rather, much of the Westerners units that I have/wanted still are not there.

IIRC they are a little larger than that, maybe nearer to 34mm? I'm away from home 'til Tuesday so I can't measure any at the moment.

I mean, like, really long.

Here's the Chaos Dragon from Grenadier Miniature's dragon of the month line, sculpted by John Dennett. Still available from Mirliton Miniatures.

http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php/topic,50682.msg949914.html?#msg949914

Most painted photos don't really show off the detail. This one from the Lost Minis Wiki has a good try.

Spoiler:

I liked it before I got my copy, but had to do a double take at all the subtle, delicate detail visible in person. Especially all the broken, wrinkled, and sagging skin draped over the skull and limbs. I think the same kind of thing goes for John's dragonlisk, from the same line.

Spoiler:

Not available at Mirliton (last I checked) I had to wait a while for one to pop up on ebay. Strange polo-mint 'scales' nonwithstanding, I love the skin, muscle, reptilian skull, bird/pterosaur combination wings, pose, sense of weight... Nick Bibby still gets praised for this kind of naturalism in his old wargaming sculpts, like the great spined dragon, and rightly so; but I think John Dennett is right up there too, and deserves his fair share.
(To be honest I can't go for most [not all, but most] dragons sculpted since then. They seem like featureless tubes or human bodybuilders covered in a greater or poorer quality of texture and greebling, sometimes with a face nicked from 1998. Dragons or not, too many mini sculptors just don't seem to 'get' animals)

The chaos dragon and dragonlisk were from the second series of Grenadier's Dragon of the Month club. The first series was sculpted by John Dennett and Andrew Chernak, and features versions of the chromatic and metallic dragons of DnD fame. It's a bit more subjective, IMO, but I have to say I like the way John's copper...

Silver...

And bronze dragons are posed, and how they clutch their bases.

But I think series 2, where John Dennett sculpted all the dragons, and with more random, almost ecological concepts, looks better overall. There's the sea dragon, with it's python-like twisting and scale texture.

Spoiler:

Simple diamond texture isn't an uncommon thing on dragon minis, but I think John deserves props for the way it organically reduces down along the fins and on the neck behind the head. I think it's especially impressive, given how much smaller these older dragons are compared to some of the behemoths today, and compared to the 25-28mm human figures of the day. Of modern dragons, I think even the scale texture on GW's Smaug would be hard pressed to match the fineness and delicacy of that.

Then there's the character of the shire dragon...

The mad energy of the swamp dragon...

http://www.theminiaturegallery.de/dragons/reptaarmain.html

And the writhing menace of the wyvern dragon, among others.

Not so many good pics of that one. Although... John Howe is my favourite LotR artist, and I like his design that ended up as the GW LotR fellbeast, but I have to say if I ever built a wee orc band led by a winged nazgul, I'd probably go for John Dennett's wyvern first. Especially since Mirliton put on a new rider, more suited to the job.

Dragon of the Month series 3 was another set of chromatic and metallic dragons, sculpted by William Wyatt this time. They're not bad, but IMO a fair bit more stiff and mechanical in pose and anatomy compared to the first two series. (His spectral dragon is a bit less haphazard than the first, though) So a slight pity that Mirliton went with series 3 for most of their ex-Grenadier colour dragons. The shire and swamp dragons are still available there, though.

And then there were Grenadier's other dragons...

I never hear anyone mention Full Borer miniatures. They have a very small assortment so it's no wonder really.

Really like this guy and he can be used in a Guard army or any sci-fi setting I suppose.

For conversion parts, these are possibly the best non-white heads out there, but a very unknown company:

Ah, is that where they went? I know Tom Meier sculpted those, but I couldn't remember who for. Now I kinda want a Barack Obama head for my Chapter Master.

I like that. Has the look of a titan princeps or ship captain about it.

I've been watching and reading up about Noggin the Nog, impressed about how well it holds up (IMO) and getting ideas for my Heresy dragon colour scheme. (It should be a decent size for a small ice dragon, established clerical grade) Then I stumbled across these.

Spoiler:

The page makes them sound like part of a range produced for a Noggin the Nog army list for Hordes of the Things. Maybe that's me reading too much into the connection, but it's cool that these once existed anyway.

They're definitely obscure, at any rate.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Regarding those Warzone minis, I bought them a few years ago; they're actually really nice models, the only issues being a lack of real options and the fact that they don't like regular plastic glue very much, mine never saw a game without something falling off.

Never had an issue with that, which brand did you use? Have been using Tamiya polycement for ages and never had an issue

In my 30 years wargaming, I've never, ever come across better casting and detail on minis than the Norsgard range. They are absolutely stunning before even being painted, just perfectly cast.
