To be fair, you are trading shooting to get there and it costs more points, if I recall correctly.

Command Squad is infinitely better with 2+ armour and scoring for the same cost, even if you lose a few ranged weapon options.

I don't disagree. The main downside though to the command squad is that they can't be taken on their own like Vets can. You have to have a Praetor with them, which while I'm sure in the vast majority of situations is exactly what you want, is somewhat restricting. They also can't take a Vexilla, which is a noticeable absence from their wargear options. And for a squad who you expect to be in the thick of it, would really benefit from the 1+ combat res.

Command squad vs Veteran vs the company command squad is wierd anyways in regards to equipment.
F.e. The fact that normal vets basically lack all mobility options of the company command nvm the shields is hillarious.
Meanwhile stuff like banestrike bolters or other such replacement weaponry can not be handed out to the company commands?
it's honestly all over the place.
