Just came up with, what I think, is a pretty neat idea and wondered why it's taken me 20 years of modeling to work it out.

Step 1: Open a brand new kit.
Step 2: Sniff/lick it it for a bit (as one does)
Step 3: Oogle it for a bit.
Now here's the clever part.
Step 4: Take a cabletie, tiewrap, piece of stiff wire, paperclip, splitring or similar and join all of the sprues together!
Step 5: Throw into the pile of other kits until brave enough to assemble.
Incase you missed it the crux of this technique is step 4.
I get a bit bored of hunting through piles of sprues and am about to start organising mine this way from now on.

Please let me know if this is any help, use or if i'm just really slow off the mark.

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.
Oli: But it fits through the doors, Look!

I don't know about you, but my sprues come with a quite ingenious way to organize them. This great invention is called a box . . .

Anyway, while that does sound funny, I don't really see the point. What exactly will this accomplish?

You either do not have many spare sprues or said Rhino box is a TARDIS....

I'm going to assume it's the latter.

I keep the sprue's in the boxes they came in until all the models are assembled. Afterwards I have a little mini-tackle-box which I keep my bits in, and they're separated from ech other as in "heads in one part, arms in an other, etc...

The time-honored bitz box. I've got 6 or so thread spindle organizers full of stuff.

This is exactly what I do. Tackle boxes are cheap and are a easy way to organize the bitz. You just have to go to the extra effort of using a wire cutter to take those last little bitz it's going to take you awhile to use off and throw them in. I have a piece of paper taped to the inside of the lid which tells me where everything is. The only stuff that isn't in there are my heavy weapons sprues, which sit in a drawer all together.

the OP idea seems as ingenious as it is needlessly complex.

I also use a set of drawers, the type you put nails and screws in. First thing I do when I open a box is cut everything off, get rid of the worst of the sprue left on the model, decide what I'll be using then the rest goes into the drawers. Larger stuff goes into clear plastic bags with a resealable top and then into a shoebox for easy access later.
Really small stuff like purity seals go into a very small clear plastic box.
Sprues get cut up and thrown out.

Call the reporters! i'm actually agreeing with Ailaros for a change!
i keep model x in model x's box until assembled. the i use a med and small plastic storage boxes and old kit boxes
for bit storage.

Cutting the bits off the sprues and storing them in tackle boxes also saves a ton of space.

Bigger things (extra Rhino sides etc.) go in ziplocks, clearly labeled with contents and stored in a bigger box.

Sprue-crons? Sweet.

I like the 'Spruebook' idea, but the only problem is when you have quite a few sprues in the pile, then you have to flick through all of them to make sure it is the right one.

It took you 20 years to come up with that idea? You need to spend a little more time
Step 2: Sniff/lick it it for a bit (as one does)
Step 3: Oogle it for a bit.
then go out to a store buy a fishing tackle box, compartment storage container, garage organizer boxes, or sewing organizers and spend more time cutting out your sprues and organizing them into each bin. Here are some ideas.

A spruebook is a novel idea, but clipping bits off the sprues and putting them in little, drug dealer-esque baggies works a lot better. I had a ton of spare Sentinel parts, spread across about 4 Sentinel boxes and a Hellhound box. After clipping them all into baggies, they all fit in the Sentinel box alongside most of my other IG bits.

I have found that as my collection of models has ballooned over the years keeping models on the sprue until they are mostly empty space saves me more time/energy

and when looking for a bit I prefer to look at the sprue, if its one I'm familiar with I know were the bit I'm looking for is located, and can flip through all the related sprues to find it quickly.

So I have a bits box like the screw organizer/tackle box type thing w/ drawers for all my loose, heads, parts, etc and I have a large automotive style toolbox for full sprues with my different armies in diffrent drawers.

This idea sounded good at first but after rethinking it I will stick with my old way.

I cut the good bits off and store in tackle boxes and I have a box that is full of spare sprue for future builds if needed.

I'm sure this is a genius and very useful idea, but i would miss rooting through my bitz box. Thats how you suddenly find a bit that you never imagined using before. Does it still allow for inspiration or just convenniance?

I always clip new sprues clean and pop the unused bits into one of several plastic parts-boxes. Keeps things nice and organized, as well as saving space. I keep a supply of old sprues in a box, in case I want to use them for modeling purposes or need to top off my Tupperware container of sprue rubble.

I feel like the "sprue book" would be rather unwieldy. I've found that vehicle sprues, especially, as they tend to be a bit more 3-dimensional, have a tendency to stick together as parts get caught on one another. Maybe it's just less of an issue for me, as I don't have a big stack of unbuilt kits...
