Please don't be too harsh. It is my first ever model and I couldn't wait to get him up on here for everyone's viewing pleasure. Gamewise he is my Dante stand in for my DIY Blood Angels Successor chaptor. I still need to do a little greenstuff under the arm. I'm just letting the glue dry. Let me know what you think.

That looks pretty cool to me. There is something about his face that makes me think this chapter might be due for a visit from their friendly local inquisitor.

Edit: Ahha, just saw in your signature that they are a renegade successor chapter.

Yeah, I thought that it would make a pretty good deathmask. Its actually going to be a helmet that he crafted after defeating a daemon in battle. The chapter is just a little "rough" around the edges. Think Knights of Blood.

Looks nice. Have you modelled before?

No, this is the first thing that I have ever worked on. I've never even wargamed before. I just bought the codex the day it came out for some reason. Finally I bought a bunch of models and actually bought the tools yesterday. We got in this evening and I just sat down and started. If you see some things from the pictures that need improving please let me know. I'm not even sure if it even looks up to par or not.

*Also, I'm thinking of putting some greenstuff on the loin cloth and making it into chainmail. What do you think?

I added the greenstuff. The chainmail went well. It looked even better before I stuck my finger in it and smushed it up. I'm learning alot.

Might be the angle of the picture, but the armpit joint is looking a tad bit too bulky. That's pretty much the only thing I can see wrong with it....

I really like it, though! When I think "death mask," I think of something along the lines of what you're using, albeit less.... demonic.

No pity!
No remorse!
No fear!

Yeah, I've had some issue with the armpit. I have since repositioned it and I'll redo the greenstuff when it dries. I'm learning that greenstuff is not as easy as I thought it would be. Not that I thought it would be easy, but easier than it has been.

I haven't really messed around with GS, yet, but I've practiced the technique for mail in clay and I think you can really improve the look for the next time you try it.

Right now it looks like you have a grid of dots, like this:
oooooo
oooooo
oooooo

Instead, make your depressions in horizontal rows, making sure to alternate the direction of travel to simulate the lie of the weave. If you keep them close, the next depression will partially collapse the former, giving that row a uniform direction. It will look more like this:
(((((((((
)))))))))
(((((((((

I managed to pull it off pretty convincingly in clay using nothing but a piece of 16g wire (coincidentally, the same wire I actually use for making mail), slightly rounded at the tip with sand paper. The main issue in doing it in GS will be keeping your tool well lubricated (my inner child is snickering, right now) and overcoming the elasticity of the material, which is most directly related to the proportions of your mix and how long it's had to set. You might have better luck making a sheet of mail, letting it set for a bit, then cutting and molding it carefully to shape.

I just wanted to show my latest additions. You can see the repositioned arm from my first model as well.

Obviously not done, but I wanted to show the new skull and helm on his knee. I shaved off the previous face and replaced it.

not the hugest fan of the chain mail loin cloth, but I like the rest. These little small-creation things and filling in gaps are a good way to cut your teeth on GS.
