Hell there,

Just ordered some IG Elysians and really need to know how to paint visors. Is there anyone who has some advice and/or paintscheme?

I really like this pic from FW, but I'm not sure if to go with yellow.

So dakka, please show me your painted visors and how you've achieved it!

ey there, I was in the same boat not too long ago, I was going to buy an elysian army and just go to town painting it, but i didn't in the end I went for a Kroot merc army instead, but I did do a bit of research into painting them, i wanted mine to be kind of special forces s.w.a.t looking guys with grey fatigues and dark blue webbing with an orange visor to give them a focal point, as far as actually painting the visors I came to the conclusion that to get an effective look to them just choose the colour you want to go that compliments your army's scheme and start dark at the top of the visor where it connects to the helmet and then blend it down to nearly white right on the edge of the lense all you need to do then is add a light highlight on the hard edges of the visor either a fine white one to show reflection or just the lighter blending colour as shown on the pic you posted, red would be good for this as it's easy to blend with lots of good gw colours to support you. hope this helps you if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to throw me a pm and i'll try and help you out as much as I can, I like to paint quickly and get figures on the table that look pretty good so although my advice won't get you a golden deamon it should help a bit (i hope?)

I tried to copy the scheme used on the Pig Iron website for these boys. Base colour of black, then pretty harshly progressive lighter blue along the bottom and up the edges ending with a white highlight. It kinda works.

I like that look jah-joshua, I may have to use that on my guard. The yellow from the first image is also really good though.

I like jah-joshua's version a lot. The thing about visors (if you want to make them to "go pop") is to paint very clear and clean highlights as well as stark contrasts to simulate the fact that they things reflect like in a whole different way than other materials like cloth. Here's some visors I painted about a year ago:

You really have to take the shape into consideration. These are mostly round-ish visors so probably not the best example possible but I hope it's still of help. Maybe try an approach similar to painting gemstones... hang on a second...

Here's a little sketch on how I would try painting these visors. Might work out fine.

edit: woah, sorry for the huge size of the sketch.
