Salutations dakkaites! I have been eyeing up the imperial guard models with great desire lately and finally snapped and said "what the hay i just made 120 bucks! and thus decided to create a small force of about 750-1000 points. since I enjoy having cash in my wallet I am going to use mainly veteran squads as my troop choices. I decided to go with the 31st Ayr ash rats (basically desert rats that come from ash wastes. These are some of my first works them being my first works in four years with the exeption of a couple orks that i painted up. After these fellas i will get on with my orks which are 40% painted. Without further ado the ..... little plastic men.

questions and comments/constructive criticism very much welcome.

OK I wrote a super long post and my internet disconnected so ill sum it up. HS lets see im going to get a battalion force which will be used to make 3 vet squads one being a tank hunter squad (forward sentries, power fist, meltas etc.) Ill also include a leman at some point which 3 points firing the 4th state of matter at baddies. Sorry pal but im not too fond of the basilisk. If they made a plastic of the big circley KAPOW one then id jump for it. Thanks for the kind words too.

Hey guys, so I was just thinking about my army and thought to myself "hmmm it makes sense that if they're crawling around in the ashwaste/rubbley places/ruins they would want to be sneaky...what if i put supressors on their lasguns? that would work." my question to you dakkaites is this. Wuld you see this as them all being snipers or would it be clear and if i wanted to someday enter a tourney with them would it be allowed? Thanks

If all the models are armed in a consistent and logical manner then there is no problem. If you hunt through these board and the gallery you'll find loads of examples of modified lasguns.

Regarding the models they look like a good start. I'm seeing some mould lines that sould be dealt with as much as possible before starting to paint. Also try drilling out the weapon barrels with a pin vice. Your plama gunner could do with a bit more definition with some highlighting perhaps.

Also on the camera see if there is a macro mode. It will be a small flower symbol and allows you to focus properly on small, close objects.

The macro setting is on . Its been a while so this may be a super noob question where should i highlight and what with. Regarding the mold lines how should i clear those up and I dont own a drill pin vice thingy and i would rather spend the $ on minis to paint and play with. Thanks for the advice and comments. Sorry if I bore you with my noobyness .

I highlight with the same colour I used for the main colour with a small amount of denehb stone in it, I use a wash to provide shading and contrast and then I usually go on to something else..doing ten coats is boring and usually redundant unless you are painting a character or centrepeice model.

For mold lines drag the edge of a hobby knife down the molde line and watch it curl away, just don't go too far and flatten it more than you want.

For pics you want to put the model on a peice of white printer paper and have the paper curl up behind it by leaning it against the wall or something. This way the camera has nothing to focus on except the model itself.
Then grab two lamps one to shine from above and one to shine front on (and from the side or you will get the shadow of the camera on the figure) trust me your pics will look a damn sight better

Hope this helps..and don't feel like a noob this is what dakka is for!

Also if you go to places other than GW a pin vice and bits are only a couple of pounds to pick up, and they do last forever.

Its abit hard to see the photo OP.
The lighting is very very important.

Where you want to photo graph = where the light should be.

For example: If you want to photograph the front of the mini , it makes no sense if the light is on the opposite side to the back right :3
