Assuming that it's adequately marked somewhere, is there any requirement to reveal to your opponent which squad is in which transport?
Obviously if you have something like a KFF, or are firing from the transport, you have to show what's acting, but a great point was raised on another board that there's no requirement to show at the start of the game what goes where.
I think, assuming it's adequately marked (put a model inside the transport, for instance, so no one can cheat) that it would make transports more interesting. Right now, I see people just pick off the 'important' rhino, which is kind of bs when you think about it - there's no way that they'd know, in reality, what the hell was hiding in there (unless it's firing out the top hatches).
I've read through the book, and I really don't see much on it. It has to be decided, but a model from the squad inside the transport proper does do this.

Officially Gwar! is right and you do need to tell your opponent what squad is in what transport to avoid a "Shell Game". The problem is that there is nothing in the BRB that even suggests marking the transports in anyway so you\your opponent HAVE to ask.
So in theory I could move a squad of transports up shuffling their formation three card montey style until you get so sick of asking me who is in what that you just stop bothering and then I get to 'invent' what squad is in what transport. Yes, this is a craptackular thing to do and would prompt you to never want to play me again, but I know that in circumstances where I was being cheated like this I still wanted to finish the game.
I guess my complaint is that this would be as easy to fix as attaching little unique flags to the top of each loaded transport that corosponded with a squad on the sideline. But even this simple thing isn't mandated even in tournements. </rant>

No, you can't. Once you move a unit and start moving another unit, you cannot go back and move another unit. All I have to do is ask at the end of each of your movement phases what is where. Also, not many Transports come in Squadrons... None do IIRC.

This isn't some brilliant well thought out tactic that I or anyone I know uses; it's just a pet peave that sometimes I forget to ask and I've been suspicious of people. Also as I stated before the fix is rather simple, I guess I just needed to rant and vent about it.

I'm not a fantasy WH player, but I believe pulling surprises with spells and upgrades for units is part of its mindset and basic layout (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone).
Not so 40k. There's a paragraph just before the mission section in the RB about not pulling surprises. 40k is a more ... 'tactical' game, in that sense.

I solved that problem with my list by making sure that my units have the same markings as thier transport.

I usually put some of my guys in the back of my trukk so that everyone knows. It's easier in that I remember who is where and the other guy doesn't have to ask.
The rule is on page 92 under the section a note on secrecy if you wanted to look.
Similarly on page 94 when it talks about reserves you actually have to declare what is in what when you put them in reserve.

You really dont have too, as there isnt a rule that says you do. But this can easily bring people to cheating, IE oh well that WASNT my HQ rhino, it was ACTUALLY the most useless transport in my army HAHA!
What I do is on my write up sheet I actually put what squad is in what trukk (partially so I dont forget what is what, cursed memory problems!) But obviously things can get figured out rather quickly. I have to say this trukk has a KFF mek inside, so everyone knows what trukk/bw Im measuring from. After that it isnt too hard to figure what the others are. I mean how many units can take transports anyways? So if I have 4 trukks on the field, you already know what one has the KFF mek, and hes either with nobs, or just boyz. The other 3 left are most likely boyz, as its not the smartest to stick nobz in a weak trukk.
The same can be said about most armies as well. A LR is most likely going to have some form or terminators in them, and rhinos are usually tacticals with the special weapons in them if they are combat squaded.
But now Im running off into tactic's rather then rules. Write it down on your sheet so you cannot cheat, and so others know you are not cheating, its right there before the game started.
