I learned a lot of stuff painting these. The first thing was that if it starts looking good it is hard to put the paint brush down, all you want to do it paint!
Painting the cloth on the warboss was an education in getting paint depth. I started off with mechrite red as a base, then blood red and fiery orange as
highlights. Once those were complete I used a baal red wash to sort of blend things. The final bit was devlan mud to make it look dirty.
The other thing that I found neat was painting their skin. The effect I got was not exactly what I wanted but it turned out not bad. Here I was trying to
think in reverse trying to get as much detail out of the arm muscles that I could. Starting dark and going lighter really worked. It was also cool to see that
you can use bright colors and then dull them done with a wash if need be. This can hide all sorts or little errors when you are learning.
The helicopter was another learning tool. You can't see it in the pictures but I actually highlighted his jacket, teeth and everything. Maybe a little too anal
but it was a lot of fun

The picky details sure slows the painting down. Hopefully it will pay off in the end.
I have made a mistake though, I added the flock to the base before I gave them a clear coat. I am not sure what the clear coat stuff will do to the grass.
The good thing about orks is that they should all look different. This gives you a lot of room to "adjust" each ork as you go, giving them character. This is
where space marines kill me. As much as I think that they are really cool, making them all look the same might get a little boring. I need to find a way
to get around this so that I don't find painting them too dull.
