Oklahoma City, Ok.

Bring lots of troops and artillery. if he's geared up to pop tanks and you bring alot of squishy bodies instead, and have guns that can shoot out of sight, it'd be fun. it wouldn't be a trick you could use alot. eventually he'll catch on and switch i'd imagine

Diligently behind a rifle...

Need a little bit more info about what or who is carrying those lascannons before help can be useful to you.

I thought LC meant lightning claws. More info, please.

If it's lascannons, then it has to be devastators to fit that many. Stand off at 49" range where they can't hit you, and pound them with basilisks & battlecannons.

15 lascannons ought to answer that pretty well. use your orders to twin link them. officer of the fleet is an auto include. as are sanctioned psykers. valkrye-riding melta vets can suicide in to kill armored targets that absolutely need to die right away. combine your infantry squads and give them a commisar with a power weapon and power weapons to your squad sergeants. although it's incredibly wrong a 20 man guard squad with 3 power weapon guys in it has a pretty good chance of beating the crap out of a 10 man space marine tactical squad. be sure to stay in cover. inside cover guard rock outside of it they're just so much cannon fodder.

I believe a 21-man IG combined squad with three power weapons wins or loses against a Tactical Squad based on who gets the charge, and generally does poorly against Blood Angel Assault Marines or-- worse yet-- Space Wolf Grey Hunters. I wouldn't advocate that size squad as a reliable assault unit against Marines without some way to get them across the board, and even then it's by no means a sure thing.

I expect they'd beat the tactical squad even if they were charged. against space wolf grey hunters it makes more sense to rapid fire and then receive the charge since they're going to count as charging and have initiative in any case. the blood angels assault squad should win against the gaurd squad.

I'm not advocating playing guard as an assault army. I'm saying after you've shot the squad to pieces you can ignore the guys who are still alive, because you know if they charge you you'll win. or if there are still enough guys around to be a threat go ahead and charge them for the extra dice. but by all means let the marines come to you.

A charging Tactical Squad of the configuration I see most commonly (8 Marines with bolters, 1 Marine with special weapon, 1 Marine with heavy weapon, 1 Sergeant with combi-weapon) gets 21 attacks, inflicting 14 hits and 9.333 wounds, 6.2222 of which are unsaved, so we'll say six kills. The 15 remaining IG get 12 standard attacks, inflicting 6 hits and 3 wounds. The 9 power weapon attacks then inflict 4.5 hits and 1.5 wounds, so the IG kill 2.5 marines and lose combat by three or four. With the Commissar alive, that's not so bad, but you're still definitely losing that assault. Keep in mind that this is a "best case" scenario where the Marine Sergeant doesn't have any close combat equipment and the Marines don't get the chance to shoot before charging.

If the Marines shoot their bolt pistols and meltaguns before charging, that's another two or three Guardsmen down (more if the IG are out of cover), and if those special weapons are flamers instead of meltas, the entire IG squad might be destroyed in the subsequent assault.

Fett
the marines will win the 1st round of assault but the guardsmen are leadership 9 stubborn and reroll their leadership when within 12 of a banner. the guard aren't going to run.

So to continue your example..... I'm going to round decimals to the nearest whole number. You can try rounding down if you want but I think the result will be more or less the same.

1st round:
Marines: 21 attacks 14 hits 10 wounds 7 casualties
Guard: 14 attacks 7 hits 2 wounds 1 casualty
9 power weapon attacks 5 hit 2 casualties
Result: Marines (7) Guard (14) Marines win. Guard hold.

2nd round:
Marines: 9 attacks 6 hits 4 wounds 3 casualties
Guard: 11 attacks 6 hits 2 wounds 1 casualty
9 power weapon attacks 5 hit 2 casualties
Result: Marines (4) Guard (11) Combat tied.

3rd round:
Marines: 6 attacks 4 hit 3 wounds 2 casualties
Guard: 9 attacks 5 hits 2 wounds 1 casualty
9 power weapon attacks 5 hit 2 casualties
Result: Marines (1) Guard (9) Marines lose.

4th round:
Marines: 3 attacks 2 hit 1 wound 1 casualty
Guard: 8 attacks 4 hits 1 wound 0 casualties
9 power weapon attacks 5 hit 2 casualties
Result: Marines are all dead.

There are two ways to handle lascannon spam. The first is to always keep your vehicles in cover. A single marine lascannon shooting at AV14 in cover blows the vehicle up something like 3% of the time. Hardly something that can't be overcome by redundancy.

The other solution is...
