I'm interested in making terrain but theres nowhere near me that sells insulation foam so I was wondering if anybody knew a UK based website I could buy it from? I ask because I don't want to end up buying something meant for roofs etc!

I don't know UK suppliers, but in the US you can find it at any big-box home improvement store. Is there no equivalent to Home Depot/Lowes in the UK (I know I've heard names dropped before, but they just aren't coming to me) or are they simply not in your area? For something so light, I fear the size of insulation boards is going to make shipping cost prohibitive. I'll let the UK dakkaites actually answer your question.

I would have thought B&Q or Homebase would sell it. Any good builders merchant should stock it also.

The insulation foam board used for terrain IS the same foam board used for roofs. Any large hardware store should carry it.

While the Workshop is a great place, they're out of stock on foam at the moment, so if you don't want to wait, I'd go to B&Q or Homebase and ask for high density foam or styrofoam. It should probably be pink or blue. If you've seen/worked with the stuff before, you'll recognise it the second you get your hands on it. They generally come in huge sheets, but if you want it cut down for storage or transport, B&Q might cut it for you in the store. Unfortunately, they don't deliver and you won't be able to get it from online.

EDIT: Rapid has some stryofoam chunks, and Panel Systems seems to have quite a selection aswell, if that helps.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

I was having a look for this stuff yesterday, B&Q only seem to do sheets of polystyrene.

Focus had packs of the pink insulation I think you are after (called Space Board iirc) and it was on offer.

The Blue foam tend to go by the trade name of Roofmate in th UK.

I nab it off of my roofing subcontractor. You might not have allot of luck with the more generic UK DIY stores but the building depots will probably have it. It tends to be mostly used on concrete flat roof's so look out for commercial and/or schools buildings going up, there should be pallets of the stuff lying about!

You should also search for if you look on Antenociti's workshop's old web site (not the webstore) i'm sure they have have recomendations of the best places to get foam from, I seem to remember linking to a manufacturer who realising the wargaming communities interest sold it in tile sizes for a table and sheets. A search on Terrain Genisis or google should produce the same result.

Sorry for the Threadmancy but I thought that this relevent link might be useful.

I have found time to locate the foam webstore that I spoke of in my last post on this thread;

http://new.panelsystems.co.uk/newsc/index.pl?c=Craftfoam

They sell regular sheets and smaller packages of foam for hobbiest.

I didn't realise that focus sold foam, I'll have to remember that.

The website I listed sells foam cut to 300mm square tiles which is handy if like me you do not have a garage to store whole sheets, live in a flat, only have a bedroom or only have a requirement for a small project.

Another source is Buildbase.

I bought a sheet of 1200x2400 Xtratherm for about £14.

The downside is that it has silver paper on either face, but it does peel off ok.

It starts off white, but quickly yellows when it is exposed to the air.
