Deployment
I lost the roll off and Craig opted to go first, which is fine as I like to go second in objective games. Unfortunately we don't know the missions for the tournament so we just used the standard
40k missions.
Craig deployed his skimmers forward then behind them the Chimeras and the Hellhound in terrain of the shrine ruin, where a objective was.
I deployed my two squads of Lootas in a ruin contesting a objective. I deploy everything else behind the ruin and under protection from the
KFF.
Other two objectives are placed in the tower ruin in the centre and basilica towards Craig.
* Tactical Notes
Ok target priorities for me are the melta squads and knowing Craig he'll bring one over to me in the Valkyrie or Vendetta. I'll then go for the Vendetta itself and the Hellhound to make sure it's safe for my Boyz once they get out.
Turn 1
Craig does his scout moves turbo boosting the Valkyrie towards my Orks. In his actual turn he moves the Valkyrie right in my face and Veterans disembark. I don't think he does much other movement.
Shooting his meltas fail to pop the Battlewagon from misses or saved by
KFF, the Vendetta which reposition had more luck with lascannons and popped it killing some Orks and a few Guardsmen in the blast.
My turn I turbo boosted all Kopters behind the centre tower ruin, I moved the single Wagon out towards the tower objective too.
Shooting the Boyz and Big Mek now on foot fire into the Veterans but don't kill many. Loota units immobilise the Valkyrie and wreck the Vendetta slowing the other melta Veterans down inside it.
In assault I charge the Veterans and wipe them all out with mass power klaw attacks.
* Tactical Notes
As I guess Craig fed me suicide meltas which have done the job and popped my tank but he's lost them in the process and had his Valkyrie immoblised which is asking for trouble next turn. With those Orks now on foot they can move to the objective where the Lootas are while the Battlewagon uses the tower as cover to claim the other as it's on the first floor and within 3"
Turn 2
Veterans with plasmas bail out their Chimera and move onto the shrine objective while the melta Veterans use their Chimera. I don't think there's much more movement.
Shooting the Valkyrie nails some Boyz and a single Kopter takes a wound.
I move the Boyz on foot to the side of the building so they cannot get shot and get a better cover save. I move all Dethkopters into the tower to shoot enemy transports better and get cover saves too. Battlewagon moves up and claims the tower objective.
Shooting turn Lootas can only target the immobilised Valkyrie which is soon wrecked. Kopters fire rokkits at the Chimera holding melta Veterans but none hit :(
*Tactical Notes
Craig has reposition his army well so my long range Lootas cannot draw a bead on them to fire, which means I have to come out of cover, however he has no or little long range fire power to get them. That centre tower is being a royal pain in the arse!
Turn 3
Hellhound moves out of terrain ok while melta Vets Chimera rolls up along side basilica ruin.
Shooting the Dethkopters feel the pain and two die and one takes a wound.
In my turn I move the top floor Lootas down and start moving Boyz onto the objective claiming it. I move the single Dethkopter out of the tower towards the melta Chimera with hope the ground floor Lootas will pop it and it then can charge, cause pain and then consolidate onto the objective.
Shooting Lootas fail to pop the Chimera.
In assault 'Kopter fails to wreck Chimera.
* Tacitcal Notes
Ok I thought about this at the time, I should have moved that solo 'Kopter onto the objective contesting instead of engaging the enemy, perhaps may have survived more and got cover too - doh!
Turn 4
Chimera moves back so Lootas cannot see it, that's about it.
Shooting the Kopter is toasted.
In my turn I can't really do anything. At this point we call it a draw as my turn I would move my Lootas to see the Chimera while the Chimera would keep playing cat and mouse moving around terrain - we would just go on for turns and turns, so, it's a draw!
Summary
The Orks did ok but lack of troops is a issue. The Lootas did ok, the Kopters not sure on and I really should have used that one to contest the objective where it may have survived and won me the game, maybe. Same those Kopters come to 210 points while a Battlewagon full of 20 Boyz costs 265, I'd have to lose some Lootas maybe and possibly some Boyz to get in another troop choice - something to consider.
Craigs list was alright. We discussed that he fed me a troop choice and in objective games this wasn't a good idea especially at low point levels. He said he'd use his
CCS as suicide melta instead next time.
