This is my first time doing IG for myself, I have done a couple for my friends. Now I want to start my own IG army. I thought I would buy the set of 5 guardsman to start off, so I can figure out a colour scheme and see if it works and test out things before I start the real army. I'll be posting my progress with the 5 guardsman everyday or when I am working on them. So I have them all modeled except for the las rifles. I'm gonna put those on after I paint the torso and pretty much when the guard is done, so it's not in my way. I am going to prime them when I know what colour scheme I am gonna do. I was thinking a white a black type of thing, any suggestions. Here is what I have so far.

I think black and white would look cool. Were you thinking black armor over white cloths? I'll be looking forward to a painted mini or 5

Yeah I was thinking the black armour and the white clothes, sorta. Maybe have the shoulder pads white.

Good call on the shoulderpads too. Maybe diff color on commanding officer shoulder pads?

Oh ok, yeah I could do that for the shoulder pads, I am going to Prime them now.

Idea; Officer Pads = Black with White stripe denoting rank

(I.E. Vertical - Sergeant, Horizontal - Jr. Officer, Diagonal - Sr. Officer)

Nice idea, could one of the miniatures be an officer or are they all guardsman.

In this set it would be a shame to make one of these models your sgt. Reason being you can give your sgt some cool war gear (ie. power weapon, bolt pistol) all of which are better then the good olde lasgun!! Just my opinion, but wait to buy a command squad before you make on of these guys your sgt!!

I hear ya this is not a cheap game!! But yes you should save up because this really is the best way to build a core army!!

Do you really have to think about it? If nothing else, it's easy to find people that want the HWTs and the sentinel. People might be willing to trade chimeras for those heavy weapons teams.

Anyway, good luck! I like the standard cadian pattern, but I'm one of those "Paint like it is on the box or perish" sort of guys :3

Now that they are all primed I can start painting them.

So I started to paint one of them to see where all the different colours are gonna go. I think I like this scheme. I am just on the skin, then I will highlight the black and shade the white somehow. This is just the beginning of the painting so that is why it doesn't look to good right now. I just don't know what colour to make the gun. Click on the pics to see them more clearly.

What do you mean, so far I have just basecoated skull white.

Really? Looks good for plain old skull white.

I mean using Astro. Grey as a base under multiple coats of thinned down skull white, which is how I do it.

Well it did have black for the primer so maybe that's what helped.

So I finished one, I think the scheme is pretty good.

I like it alot. Are you going to tone down the white at all?

Most likely, I am just not sure how.

I am almost done my second IG, just need to finish highlighting the black and a few other things.

Did you figure out a way to soften that white on the armor? If not what about doing a light wash of badab black or maybe even a blue wash?

That definitely gives it a bit more texture. Another thought might be to add some highlight to it.
