Hey,

just finished these:

Though i gotta admit.. they are still abit too shiny i dont know why they arent getting matte finish by now O_o i sprayed them alot with armypainter antishine varnish. Also i gotta admit that im not
happy with the necron base at all

The terminator was actually highlighted before using quickshade by brush-on. Quickshade was added to give them a nice shade, which it did imo

Ok ok, this was not dipped or quickshaded

I'm not big on the shiny either, but wow those are some great looking paintjobs! I'd love to have those dreadnoughts. Well done.

I have to say, I really, really like your work. Love that texture you seem to have on the armor.
Wish I could match your ability.

This stuff is brilliant! What Quickshade did you use? It looks like DARKTONE to me.

email this stuff to the Army Painter... I'm sure that they'd feature it on their website/news letters.

Can you get the same effect with the GW brown wash? I don't really like the pooling on the minis, it makes me think you over painted. but overall its works better on the red than the yellow base coat.

I reckon that they'd might feature the Necron Warrior at least. Not to say that the Space Marines aren't more awesome though, although they do have a couple SM galleries already. It's worth a try. If you keep what you're doing up, I'm sure that they'd take serious notice!

Slightly off-topic: Where did you get the red plastic rod for your necrons? I've been wanting to get something like that in blue for my white/ceramic Nec's I want to collect next.

The Quickshade looks good but I always feel it lacks a final highlight, kind of like a heavy wash.

Good stuff though, the dreadnought looks very nice indeed.

Yeah true, however i was not trying to achieve anything special with uber highlighting. As they say at armypainter about quickshades that its a quick way to make decend looking models on a table

the terminator was a test to use drybrush highlights i think it came out alright considering the time i used for the red highlighing (5-10min)

the ba dread is just basic one color only, would look cooler if it had highlights your right ^^

Hello,

great job. I have some blood angels at home which wait for paint. Have you used a spray primer? And what further steps have you done? I had tried the pure red primer on my blood ravens but had a lot of problems to get the other colors over the red foundation.

Hey

I actually used Army Painter's Dragon Red primer, after that i drybrushed with blood red, blazing orange & something similar to fiery orange.

Bolter was done with just boltgun metal and the black areas were highlighted with codex grey

Chest eagle was basecoated black and then highlighted with Shadow Grey, Codex Grey, Fortress Grey & White

Skulls were done with Bleached bone with devlan or badab black and after than done again with bleached bone

Purity seal are plain White (green part is Goblin Green)

Eyes were done with Dark Angels Green -> Snot Green -> Scorpion Green -> Dot of White

Terminator honors (or w/e their called ^^) were done the same way as the chest eagle

Hope this helped

Mold Lines!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great paint jobs. I never understand the pains people go to to do a great paint job and then there are mold lines. Of course they only look worse when shaded...Make those mold lines pop.

Still great results with a cool technique. Don't mean to harp. That terminator powerfist is getting to me.

That's just it... he went for a QUICK paintjob... not a great one... Sometimes getting them on the table matters way more, and you'll never see that powerfist mold line when you're looking at them during the game...

Nice stuff man! I'm starting to be very interested in all of these speed shading techniques as I have over 3k pts of tyranids to paint ASAP. Would the OP or anyone else who knows care to tell me a bit about Quickshade? (ie; is it a product, a technique, what?)

Yeah its a product produced by Army Painter. They produce three shades atm light, medium and dark. The were basically some guys who were in a similar position and needed to get a lot of troops ready quickly and so developed this product. It is generally applied through either dipping and shaking the model in the solution or by simply painting it one much like a standard wash. If you looking to get a lot done they also produce a very good quality range of coloured primers.

Sounds excellent. I assume they're an online company? Just as I've never seen anything like that at either model store where I live.

Not just online, at least not in Europe, best bet would be to check with local gamers and gaming forums.

Google, and the Army Painter website, reveal that the closest retail store stocking it is in australia. Will have to borrow a credit card and go online, I guess...

If it costs a little more for shipping you could always bulk buy and see about selling a few of the cans on. Especially if you don't have a stockist locally. You never know you could be responsible for getting Army Painter into your country, lol.

Alternatively see about getting a local store to trial stock it to see how it sells. If there is no-one else in the country who stocks it then it would be a pretty big feather in the retailers cap.

I always enjoy seeing Quickshaded Miniatures, because many times I've considered picking some up myself. Later on, I'll be attempting to do some Marines of my own Chapter, the Vulture Vermilion, and the Red on the Dreadnought is exactly the shade I'm looking to achieve; any chance of a list of the colours you used?

Thanks

I am starting a Raven Guard army soon, and I really like how your Dreadnought looks - can we get the rundown on colors/technique on that?

Thanks!
