The dark scheme looks better, there's more contrast with the skin.

First, his some suggestions with the pictures so we can give better C&C.
Keep the camera far away and use its own zoom. Hold the picture button down halfway until it focuses. If you need highly details photos, use your camera macro mode and do the opposite. Move the camera close and don't use the zoom. However, you still may need to focus it. Never use flash and try to take pictures either outside and near a window. Okay, with that out of the way, I have a few strong suggestions about the mini.
-I can't say the color scheme is my favorite as the colors clash to much. I suggest more natural colors they are less bold. Try a more 'pukey/catachan' green. Those are less saturated and don't hurt the eye. For reds, mechrite rid as a great mid tone and isn't harsh. For the carapace, I suggest a technique called feathering. Paint the carapace color a base of black. From there, grab a good mid tone blue like ultramarines blue on a detail brush, and feathering it at the ends of the carapace where one ends and the next begins under it. Try to make small triangles that blend together but are 'spikey' at the top. Make sure they are similar in length at the top. Next, take a second color, maybe a hawk turquoise or enchanted blue and do the same, but feather it shorter so some darker blue shows through at the top. Continue with lighter colors as far as you want to go which might include white. It is a very simple painting technique that is great for nids and very common.
No TL;DR, read it anyways.

Yes! Nice colors. I actually hate the standard white and red color scheme. It doesn't look alien enough. Now this looks distinctly like something that I would see devouring all life on the surface of a planet.

I play a behemoth force as my self and I believe I can paint some good nids. Here is an amazing tut which I plan on using the skin tut for my Fw tyrant as well. http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/282
He goes into feathering too. No need to use those colors though, just swap them out for similar tones in dif. colors. The reason I suggested less saturated colors as they tend to look better together on a model with harsh variations then saturated. With saturated colors, I find them to be completely separate and don't blend together in unison on the model. To get bold colors, you can use less saturated and highlight plenty. Also, for good color shading, use a wash of the colors opposite on the color wheel. I.E. wash red with green and yellow with purple. But red does wash with purple very nicely.
