Ok, So some of may have seen my regimental fluff in the last thread.
I have taken on board some of the suggestions and sorted some errors etc and re-written alot of it so it's brand new!
I've decided not to make it a training school as someone suggested, as I like the idea of being able to field them as a regiment,
but I've added a contigency to use them as an attached unit in pretty much any
IG force, which is cool.
Let me know what you think!..if you want to seee some of the
WIP's they are on

A barren ice planet distant from it's yellow sun, the world of Alsace was once populated,
albeit sparsely, by an underdeveloped human population. During the great crusade the
planet was discovered by the Iron hands legion but largely ignored as it has little
strategic value or mineral wealth. The following centuries boasted an age of technological
prosperity with minor space ports appearing on every continent. The planet became a safe
haven for rogue traders and smugglers until a regular supply stop by the smuggling
vessel 'scion' introduced a previously unknown strain of metapneumovirus (hMPV) to an
unvaccinated populus.
Unable to reverse the devastating effects, the virus was eventually wiped clean from
Alsace by the merciless exterminationof those afflicted the planet's populace was
reduced to less than 30,000. With so few people remaining with knowledge of the
machine spirit, the generators of Alscea fell into disrepair and could no longer
maintain the stable environments needed for larger settlements. When the environmental
controls finally failed the communities were left exposed to the elements and the
population reverted to living in small family groups, each struggling for survival in
this harsh arctic world.

This then, was the world chosen as the ideal station and training ground for the 209th
imperial commando. Although not a full regiment, An imperial commando is for all
intents and purposes an independent fighting force, directed to the conflicts in which
their specialist skills are most required by the departmento munitorum and often
attached to other imperial forces. On occasion the need will rise for the entire
commando to make ready for war and on these occasions they will leave the Tenlia
bastion in the hands of a handful of fully fledged commandos, aspiring troopers in
training and the servitors and other imperial personnel.
Whilst not considered elite by imperium standards the 209th are commandos, highly
trained specialists in the art of mountain and arctic warfare. Selected for their
apptitude in cold weather conditions soldiers of local planetary systems are released
by their regiments and transported to Alsace minoris to take part in a year long
training program focusing on all aspects of combat in sub-zero temperatures.
Upon succesful completion of this program they are inducted into the ranks of the 209th.
As already noted a commando is not a full regiment and as such, has a different
operational structure. The 209th Commando is comprised of 4 companies of 3 platoons.
A platoon, known as a 'troop' consists of 1 Troop commander and command squad,
2-5 infantry squads, 2 special weapons squads and 3 heavy weapons squads, although
these numbers are variable depending on recruitment intake, current campaigns and
deployments. The 209th does not field conscripts or penal legion squads.
When deployed in the field the number of troops will dictate the seniority and rank of
the commanding officer. For example a single troop would be commanded by a Captain,
where as several troops up to a company would be commanded by a Major. If the full force
of the commando were to deploy they would be commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel.
---
The rugged mountain terrain of Alsace minoris combined with average temperatures low
enough to freeze most moving parts solid mean that the 209th are largely an infantry
based force preferring to use skis and sleds to move men and equipment. With little
or no armour support the 209th use the terrain to support suprise attacks, ambushes
and raids to devastating effect. The Imperial bastion at Tenlia maintains a support
fleet of valkyries and sentinals for situations when aerial support or fast attack
is required, tanks are requisitioned on occasion but the commandos would usually be
attatched to another regiment with heavy armour if it is required.
A commando of the 209th is expected to be versatile but may choose to specialize in
the following doctrines; Ski warfare, Heavy weapons or sniper. Veterans with at least
3 years service and active duty in at least 2 combat zones may choose to specialize in
Mountaineering and use climbing and abseiling techniques in combat to make assaults on
sheer cliff faces or attack the enemy from the rear.
Heavy weapons teams of the 209th are particularly fond of the lascannon and heavy bolter
and dependant on the situation may form special squads or provide fire support for an
infantry troop.

Commandos are generally issued with forest pattern DPM fatigues and arctic issue overwhites
Armour is standard cadian pattern in green.
weapons are standard green but many are adapted to suit the usual operating terrain with the use of weapon tape.
