Hello,
This will be my thread for the battle reports for the games at the ETC that I played. I am the Ork player for Team America, Wyatt Traina. A lot of people asked for batreps, so I'll start writing them. I hope they are educational for Ork players. I made some mistakes, and I'll be sure to point those out.

Mission: Dawn of War, 5 Objectives
This was listed in our pairing matrix as a Bad match up for my orks. I swore at my team captain for putting me here and then started setting up.

Board has a large piece of LOS blocking Ruin on the chaos players right hand side (my left). There is a small LOS blocking spire near my table edge on my left hand side as well.

Chaos gets turn One: Entire army moves on from friendly table edge. The raider moves up to the LOS blocking ruin to make a wall behind which the demon princes hide. The rhinos bunker up behind that. There are no targets, so his turn 1 ends.

Ork turn One: I reserve the truck with warboss and MANz. The Bikes and Bikeboss Turboboost up the right flank. The gretchin move up to an objective near my table edge and stay there most of the game. The Lootas set up behind them. All three big units of boyz load up the left flank. That’s where 3/5 of the objectives ended up being. The cannons set up near the center of my board edge. I run forward and my turn ends. The turn one deployment is attached to the post.

Chaos turn Two: The land raider moves up and continues to screen the DPs. The rhinos edge forward on the flank being careful not to expose themselves to the Lootas. The defiler trundles into the woods on his board edge. A few shots from oblits and the defiler kill a bike or two.

Ork turn Two: I roll for the truck and it comes in. It moves up behind the LOS blocking spire near my table edge effectively preventing any of his heavy hitters from daring to get near it. Boyz move up again. Lootas also move up due to lack of targets. Ork shooting inconveniences the defiler.

Chaos turn Three: Land raider, Defiler, Landraider with termies, DPs and one squad of plague marines move to the flank to engage the Bikes. Richard is counting on both lashes going off to lure the bikes within striking distance. Unfortunately he duffs the first psychic test. As a result he uses his second lash to push them out of charge range instead of closer to his units.

Ork turn Three: Knowing that the bikes were doomed, they rush forward to shoot unsuccessfully at the disembarked terminators. The Trukk moves up behind the raised LOS blocking ruin near the chaos board edge. The Boyz squads seize the opportunity to move as fast as they can with out worrying about staying out of range of lash. Ork shooting again proves ineffectual.

Chaos turn Four: The bikes are lashed and annihilated in the round of shooting that follows. The other lash targets a Boyz mob and bunches them up for plasma cannons. Half of one of the centermost shoota boyz mob is destroyed as a result. At least they are only 6pts a model.

Ork turn Four: The shoota boyz on the right flank are able to advance into striking distance of terminators and the Land raider. The Central shoota boyz and the truck with MANz in it attack the left flank. Waagh is called. The 5 man unit of CSM and one unit of Oblits are swiftly annihilated in Melee by the MANz and the remnants of the shoota boyz.

Chaos turn Five: The raider moves around the ruin housing the gretchin, preparing to tank shock next round. Defiler moves to assault the shoota boyz in combat with the terminators. Plague marines jump back in the rhino and move to engage the same shoota mob if the game goes to turn 6. The demon princes go to get into the scrum with the MANz and the remnants of the shoota boyz. The remaining Oblits nuke a MAN or two, but the Rhino that contains the plague marines wasn’t able to move in the movement phase due to a death or glory attack, so still no objectives are belonging to chaos.

Ork turn Five: Defiler is destroyed by Powerklaw nob. A terminator is also clawed down. The scrum with the DPs results in one prince dying, and one surviving with 1 wound remaining. The remnants of the shoota boyz squad and the MANz are destroyed (this actually finished up in turn 6)

Game goes to turn Six

Chaos turn Six: Plague marines prepare to charge the shoota boy mob that is scrumming with the Termies. Land raider tankshocks lootas off the board. Oblits move to charge and finish off the MANz. Oblits and DP emerge from MANz fight victorious. Plague marines slug down some Shoota boyz

Ork Turn Six: Slugga boyz spread out to command the Three objectives on the Left flank. Kannons try to kill the last DP to no effect. Fighting continues with the termies and Plague marines.

Game ends. Victory for the Horde. 3 objectives claimed by slugga boyz. One objective claimed and contested by grotz and land raider. One objective claimed and contested by plague marines and Shoota boyz. High fives all around.

I think the one mistake that I made was moving the bikes close enough to get lashed by the DPs in turn 3. Luckily they failed one test and the bikes did their job of delaying the majority of the army for another turn.

and rightly so
Double-lash is one of the worst match-ups possible for your list so big congrats on managing to win that game!

But I don't understand why the Chaos player didn't lash one of your big squads in the second round already. Seeing your sketch of round 1 deployment that should have been possible without exposing the princes to the lootas, and that would most probably have neutralised or even wiped out that squad.

“It is a horde of foulness, renegades, sub-humans, mutant-slaves, beastmen, pirates and other fugitives from the Emperor's justice. The dregs of the galaxy who have come to gain plunder and win the reward of their gods. They are led and directed by the Chaos Space Marine warbands, veterans of a thousand battles; and amongst them stalked the Titans, their great strides shaking the earth."

So thats a good point. The deployment pic is a little misleading. I actually pushed my boys up against my table edge in order to be out of range of a lash for the first two turns.

Mission: Capture and Control, Pitched Battle.

Match up strength: I had this listed as a terrible match up for me. In retrospect, it wasn’t that bad. He has 4 vendettas which is basically wasted points vrs my army.

The IG wins the roll to go first. I don’t think it’s a good idea to take first turn in capture and control against foot Orks. He deploys his army, and then I plop my objective down directly opposite his on the table. I think his plan was to keep my army on the objectives and spend the game blasting me off them, but I think he would have been better served by going second, and putting his home objective far far away from mine.

IG Turn 1: He made a chimera wall near the ruin he deployed against. He zipped to the middle of the board with the banewolves. He shot at the lootas with vendettas and I got very lucky with cover saves. They didn’t have to take a morale check as a result. The basilisks pounded down a few orks in the slugga squad.

Ork Turn 1: The bikes turbo boost up my left flank. The Grots move to claim my objective while the Shoota boys start trekking over to claim his. My shooting manages to destroy one banewolf. The sluggas and non objective bound shoota squad head in the IG’s general direction. I don’t think I moved the Wartrukk just yet, and hid with it instead.

IG turn 2: He moved his banewolf up closer again to get a flamer shot off in turn 3. His army pounds the Lootas, and he does weaken resolve. They flee, but not off the table. They can rally. The basilisks claim a few more orks.

Ork turn 2: The sluggas move away from the approaching banewolf to prevent a really solid shot on them next turn since there is very little I can do about the vehicle. The lootas run off the table. My kannons continue to move into a decent firing position near the center of the board. The bikes Boost up until they are behind the same ruin that his chimeras are on the other side of. Turn 3 is shaping up to be the game decider.

IG turn 3: The banewolf moves and is only able to torch 3 slugga orks. Acceptable. More fire rains down on the slugga boys until they are in danger of dipping below 10 models. He really didn’t do the damage he needed to in this turn. I was down my lootas, and probably 30 orks total, and I was in striking distance with my warbikes who were essentially unscathed.

Ork turn 3: The Wartrukk finally breaks cover and speeds at the vendettas which moved near the center of the board. The Meganobs disembark. The sluggas move to try to bring down the banewolf. The Warbikes move to attack a veteran chimera near his board edge which is hiding behind the ruin. The warbikes shoot the chim in the side, destroying it, and scaring the vets off the board. The slugga boys rip off the weapons from the banewolf. Waagh is called and the Meganobs rush into combat with the vendettas, bringing one of them down.

IG turn 4:
He moves his vets away from the incoming bikes. His central vendetta moves away from the MANz. His shooting phase ends in tears when he doesn’t do enough damage to the warbikes to cause a morale check, and as a result cant do weaken resolve on them. The company command melts some Meganobz and the Basilisks frantically try to kill the cannons and my grots so there is a slight possibility of preventing me from claiming. He causes a few more shoota boys casualties. The squad he has been targeting has thinned out to a handful at this point.

Ork Turn 4:
The bikes move in to assault the Vendettas near his board edge, and the chimera from the plasma vets. I think the Kannons finally got a shot off at this point and destroyed the PBS chimera, exploding it, and leaving only one psyker standing. The Warboss leaves the unit to go stomp some umies nearer his board edge. The remaining slugga boys assault the weaponless banewolf to no effect. The Meganobs stomp toward the last psyker. The Warbikers then did a multi assault killing a northern vendetta and immobilizing the other as well as getting to grips with the last veteran plasma squads chimera. I think they destroyed that too. This is the turn it really swung in my favor.

IG Turn 5:
He moves the chassis of the banewolf to contest my home objective tankshocking the gretchin. They failed their morale check until the squighound ate 3 of them. The remaining Vendetta screamed in the direction of his home objective. If the banewolf can somehow survive long enough for the vendetta to get to his objective, he will eke out a draw. In the shooting phase, a couple more MANz were melted and then failed their moral check. The lone psyker would end up trying to chase them off the board!
His basilisks are really all that’s left after remaining infantry shot at the warbikes killing a few. The basilisk succeed in wiping out the rest of one of the shoota squads.

Ork Turn 5:
The warbikes move to wipe out the remaining infantry. The running meganob guns down the psyker. The slugga boys and kannon destroy the banewolf. The bikers butcher the vets and company command. Turn 6 is rolled for and the game continues.

IG turn 6:
He has nothing left but basilisk and he moves the away from the warbikes so I don’t get free VPs.

Ork turn 6:
The warbike dakkaguns claim another basilisk, and the game ends.

I had this listed as a bad matchup for me, but it turned out to be ok since he had 4 vendettas. That’s a lot of points sunk into lascannons which doesn’t really bother me. The point at which he lost the game was when he tried to move his plasma vets away from the warbikes instead of standing and shooting. He would have had a good chance killing enough to make them take a morale check before using weaken resolve to make sure they failed it. Luckily it didn’t happen. I also did really well with my cover saves all game.
