I begin by apologizing for my English, it is not really what it used to be :/

I have a semi scratch built sorcerer that I do think need to be well larger, currently it look a bit to weak:

(I have made some small adjustments since that image was taken, like moving him to the correct base size).

So I came up with the idea of making him stand on a kind living platform of well dirt, gravel and maybe some grass. The fluff part would be that it is some how possessed/animated as a gift from nurgle.

My current sketch looks like this:


My aim will be to make it rather "rocky" and having a bit of smaller gravel etc on the down side, depending on what "topping" I use there might be a root or two sticking out also.

I will probably build the platform out of polymer clay and add some details with both green stuff etc, making the legs out of one wire cable (sorry for direct translations, it is basicly just a stiff wire normally used for low current electronics) and flesh them out a bit.

So what I'm wondering is
· how many legs should it have?
· and what kind of ground? earth/dirt, asteroid, urban, plain rock?
· Also is if this might really be an interesting idea at all

Well the sketch looks cool. I'd just have it moving over the same ground as the rest of your army. 6-8 legs is fine, just make sure it can still fit on your base.

Made the legs quite long since I was not quite sure what length I really want it to have, and have not really positioned the legs that well yet either. But I did end up on having six legs since that was quite simple to spread quite nicely on the sides.

I think I will chop of about 1cm of the legs and end up with some thing close to this length:


Not quite sure about what kind of legs it will have, current candidates are: roots, tentacles or just something mechanical.

The army like most of my current ones are based with flock and different kinds of static grass, some gravel etc since most of my terrain I build are centered around a jungle planet, if that gives any help on suggestions.

And by the way more suggestions on what kind of legs it could have are most welcome.

Given that you say you want it to be a gift of Nurgle (and given the general awesomeness of the conversion so far):

Give it seven "legs", as seven is Nurgle's sacred number.

I would recommend that the ground should be a gravesite, still covered on top with sod (you could even have tombstones sticking out).

Then, either use huge maggots as legs, or use zombie limbs as legs. This would make it seem like Nurgle animated the buried dead, who heaved the entire burial site out of the ground. This would also let the "mount" be more spherical than flat, and you could imbed skulls, organs, or limbs into the clod of earth to add more detail.

Hmm, seven legs seems quite nice actually. I was thinking about using an odd number of legs, but was not sure about the placement, since a leg in the back or front could be mistaken for a tail and/or tongue. But maybe put on either left or right side would work quite nice.

I am now really sold on the idea of making the "mount" a piece of a graveyard, will play around with some bits to see how that will/might look.

But using body parts as legs just makes me afraid it will look like some kind of undead version of The Luggage from Discworld (which would be quite fun for another conversion).

And It seems that I must find a nice way to create a dirt texture. Maybe fine sand or a bit of watered PVA glue mixed with flour. I have used plaster for bigger pieces but not sure how that would work out with the cracks and all. Anyone known a good way to do this?

So some updates started sculpting on the legs and other areas on the "mount". Sorry no pictures yet not really that much to look at.

Also started the paint job on the Sorcerer. Mostly skin and some "metal", and base on the cloth parts.

My vote goes to fleshy tentacles, but being such a cool idea - no matter what you decide will look great.

I would go with GS for that thing, I just read a thread on here about "synthetic" clay that dissolved plastic model parts

Have yet to have a issue with cernit (the clay brand I use), and the scull I have glued to a hollow is not yet dissolved.

You probably ought to have at least one leg that is off the ground and looks like it is taking a step.

It will be tentacles.

Played around a bit and made two tentacles and two segmented insect legs. Well frankly the tentacles where a lot simpler/faster to make and not really a big issue with irregularities.

The two front legs on right side will be redone as tentacles, so just ignore them

Updates!

Sorry for the lack of updates (other projects eating a lot of my time).

But the sorcerer's paint job is almost finished (sorry no picture of that yet), And the sculpting of piece of animated ground "done", and that I have some pictures of:




Did made the pictures b/w since my camera really have started love the yellow parts...

So now I'm starting to plan what colours to use, and I plan to make it well earth coloured with maybe hormagaunt purple as a base for the tentacles and finally making them glossy/slimy.

I like it man, looks cool!

If the weather is right and hopefully non of my other projects will steal all my attention tomorrow and I might start the paint job.

On a side note maybe I should start a "Some of my crazy projects"-thread since well but that would require me any my camera to be better friends :/

Update: Well the weather is really okey for priming today so will try to get some painting done today and my only lecture today was canceled

I will give the tentacles a glossy coat and well maybe some weathering. The mud (base) will be drybushed with some lighter brown with a tad orange in. I used to much brown colour in my mud mix.. so now it looks like it is walking in some odd chocolate

The white "foam" one can see at the base was just PVA drying so no trace of it anymore.

Might be a bit late in the phase to suggest that.. but wouldnt a giant bug/fly/pupae/maggot be a good idea for a mobile nurgle base?

I imagine you would find a giant bug toy somewhere that would require little work. If it was a fly then it can walk or you could put it on a stem with it's legs tucked for a flying base.

Or something.

Monkeh: Just a wee bit . But both "some kind of demon" and a maggotoid (not sure about the word but meh) was other kinds of mounts I was thinking about; only to discarding them because I really wanted something a bit different and not really a fan of extra large insects (when they are not from out side the galaxy and goes nom nom nom). I do think a huge bug is not that chaotic as a possessed piece of mud/ground (now with extra tentacles).

In hindsight a just flying piece of rock as a "mount" would also work quite well...
