Come on, it's not that bad!
Try to use some washes and your stuff would be fine.

you are able to paint cleanly, which is something. Your mold lines are all that offend.
a light watered down black wash might do wonders for you.

A light black wash? a 1:1 mix chaos black to water? on all models?
I'm not very clued up with washes, have tried doing some before, bu i must being mixing it up wrong or something as they don't turn out any good when I do them.
TBH i could do with some help regarding washes, any pointers, or guides I should read online?
Also I've had a lil' look on the forum and have been given the idea that my Term Lib would be good having a SS (which makes sense - 2+/3+ epistolary Lib, more psy attacks and difficult to kill), so I've removed the Storm Bolter and will be customising a SS from odd bits I have around, so will post the 'upgrade' and paint job of that too (I'm thinking of him holding a large book with tendrils of warp energy that acts as a SS, post opinions or suggestions on that if you have any?)
Thanks for looking at the pics and the black-wash suggestion

Thin down some Badab Black wash from GW with water as it's fairly heavy on its own.
I personally use home made washes using the recipe from awesomepaintjob.com

The chaplain's head is far too white.
Try some bleached bone or something off white on his skull mask. other wise, what others have said, just needs a wash really.

I like the color scheme on the first command squad and characters, as said before the chaplain could use some washes on his helmet to make the details stand out more, I would probably hit it with a nice wash of Devlan Mud (skill in a bottle). The Librarian needs a little more depth in his armor, you might try hitting him with a wash of Asurymen Blue (hope I spelled that right, it's the blue wash) that should give you some nice shadows on the armor and make it pop more.
I'm not too fond of the baby blue rims on the 2nd tactical squad.
I think your Dred and Drop Pod needs at least another coat or two of purple over the purple parts, the drybrushing of what looks like boltgun metal doesn't really do it for me.
The cloth parts on the scouts needs something, that or the flash washed out what you did to make it look less flat white there, I'm a big fan of using bleached bone and devlan mud for cloth items since it is so easy and looks very good.

Thank its not another Codex army. Mmm purple.
Army is very neat so that great. In the end it comes down to how much time you want to spend on your army.
Did I mention " Mmm purple"?

As mentioned you should some simple washes and highlights to spruce it up. The paintjob is not awful by any means, it is just a do the job basic one. I would listen to the recommendations already made on here - some black washes in the recesses only, it is simple to do. just be neat with it, go around the whole models recesses once and then onto the next model, by the time you have a group the first one will be dry and you can repeat process to build up darkness. start off with a really thinned down wash, this should be allowed to go a little beyond the exact recess, to provide a little blend. Then the second wash should be thicker and be painted within the boundries of the first, then repeat until it looks good with a precise very dark wash right in the recess. You can finish off with some simple highlights on edges and so on. Also do the bases!!! The whole look of your army will be much improved. I would not be worried about time - if you have spent alot of money on it then it is a shame to be so worried about putting some additional effort into it to make it look good.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the suggestions, will try out the recess washes first before moving onto highlights for definition of joints and edges.
I'll get down to mixing some washes, and thanks for the Chaplain's mask suggestion, I did think it looked too plain and white
The 'baby blue rims' on the 2nd Company haven't photographed well, they're actually a light metallic blue, but i don't expect everyone to like the bubblegum flavour
Thanks Guys

Seriously, love the rock glam. The only thing I don't like is the rediculous guy holding the anti-aircraft autocannon on his shoulder.
Otherwise, everything just needs a second coat of color to make it more solid and you should be good to go.

i think you might be a tad critical of your painting skills. The paint job on your models looks good. It looks line you did a pretty clean job. I dont know if your going for speed and just trying to get the army on the board as fast as possible or wanting to add detail (your sarcasm is throwing me off). You cn do some pretty simple things to increase the detail or look of your models. Washes are a good start, blending colors, hardline highlight, these are all pretty easy techniques (with the exception of blending) that will add some appeal to your army. Honestly though, they are not as bad as you think. Dont be discouraged and keep expanding on your painting skills, you have a great start here!

Look good, as someone who just started doing some purple marines myself. GW also has a purple wash that you could use. I havent seen anyone else mention it, but a good basing scheme will really help as well. Keep it up!
