Alright, I have been painting black armor for as long as I have been in his hobby; and thats alot of space marines painted. Anyways I have been wanting to add to my black armor, some more details over the standard chaos black with highlights. The only real way I could add damage to black armor was adding a metal flaking effect with boltgun metal and so forth. I would much rather do it another way than that so I went looking around and tryed to mimic...not sure the name of it but you can see it clearly in my models. So check them out and throw me some good opinions on how I can do it better, because these are the first two I have done like this. (Note they are not finished! I just started doing the armor chips and wanted some feedback as I finished the model.)

I think it looks really good. Mind sharing how you did it? I'm looking to do a similar effect on black armor.

It looks like he didn't actually use a black for his black, rather something along the lines of Charadon Granite, am I correct?

CG still looks black, adds a wonderful dusty and worn look to the armor, and you're now able to shade black. And do some paint chips, of course.

Looks wonderful.

No pity!
No remorse!
No fear!

Well, here is what I did.

Base with grey and then a heavy black wash, nearly two coats of it.

For the chips, I would use chaos black and paint a fine chip mark and then highlight it with fortress grey.
