Here are two projects I am working on. Be gentle these are also some of the first times I have been using an airbrush seriously.

The first is a khorne juggernaught. I went with the deep to blood red blending using the airbrush. Its kind of hard to see the contrast in the pics. I will be doing NMM gold to give it a good "POP"

Next is a hellhound. Here I was going for the obvious contrast but keeping it simple at the same time. With this project I plan to weather in oils and powders. I want to use many of the military modeling techniques I have picked up to show it in warhammer. I am working on a base, made of plaster. This model is really going to be a challenge for me, in sense of combining the two way different modeling strategies into one.

Looking good. Do you have a style you'll be using with your IG?

No army to these. Im getting out of actually starting armies and going more for the artistic side of the hobby. The general theme for the hellhound is going to be a grimy, and dark warzone feel.

Alright. Sounds good. Will it be stand alone or will it be made into a sort of diorama piece?

Not sure on that yet. I do want a display base. I have started the casting of plaster for the base at this point but no ideas are set in stone. I was thinking of fully modeling some infantry to coincide with the tank. Thinking maybe a very unique type. a cross between steel legion and voystoyan.

Sounds good. I'd love to see the "Steel Voystoyans".

Yea still in concept and all that jazz. But I am a little hesitant about using oils for the weathering. I have done it several times on scale models but never on a GW. There are just so many rivets it may be harder than I thought. We will see.

Perhaps for the base, you could have some scorched earth in front of the Hellhound, to show how the flamer has bee used.

Carry on, mate!

Thanks guys.

Ya the NMM is going to be rather tedious. I mean I think I can do it, I just need to devote quite a bit of time to that specific area of the model.

Looks good! I recently did the juggernaut w/ khorne lord which is almost an identical model. I used an airbrush as well but did it with real metallic paints. Look forward to seeing your NMM job.

Dont want to hijack your thread but if you're interested in seeing my version, I have them in my photobucket account:

I may lay down the first colors for the NMM tonight and leave the wet pallet for the morning hours. Im not sure though.

Thanks though yours is coming along very nicely as well. You look like you have a good handle on using the airbrush so keep at it. For NMM, if you need a good reference, check out the Magmatrax tutorial from B&C. It's based on a slayer sword winning entry:

I like the way he did his NMM, I just think I have a good style of it for this particular project. Not so much gold but brass or bronze. We will see how it goes.
I am however going to redo the airbrushing. I want to start with black and fade into red so it will be difficult but I think I may be able to pull it off.

Here are a few updates. i resprayed the juggernaught. I went with a blue under tone. I like the turn out against the bright bronze/gold trim.

The tank has just had a few oil washes and filters done to represent oil streaks.

Oh here are the quick pics of the hellhound. Not much of a difference but its the small stuff that counts.

Did the silver NMM on the axe blade. I used oil paints to get the weathered brown on it. Burnt Sienna to be exact. Not sure if I like it thus far though. I tried to flow the paint unevenly to represent wear or even texture.

I also threw some paint on the skulls. I think they really do add a touch of color or lightness to the model. I may do an oil wash on them as well just to get some weathering.

Great stuff here brush_slip, loving the colour transition on the juggernaut, as for the axe is it finished though because if not you may find the blade really does work with the finished product. Personally I like it, only thing I would add would be a brighter strip of silver on the cutting edge to represent him constantly sharpening it.

I agree, you need something alot lighter on the tips just to make that stark look you have on the other parts.

Thanks man. Im thinking of putting this monster on a snow base. Like a rock plaster cast. Them paint it with deep gray colors and add the snow for aesthetics.

Been a while since you posted.....good to see your work again.

Looking great so far....one thing I may suggest is to smooth your blending a little more in you gold nmm....seems a bit rough. In addition, try adding a little bit off a bright contrast, either white or a very bright yellow, to create a nice reflective area.

Can't wait to see the outcome.

Keep it up

Yea man I tried to wet blend after the NMM was in process, but as any of you may know that is nearly impossible. I did however touch just some edges and some corners in white-yellow. An equal mix. Not sure if it gives the right reflective lighting, but this thing is a beast. I think the overall appearance will be good.

Does anyone know an easy way to make my own snow. I tried baking soda and some powder cleaner but it just kind of glazed it. I put some white paint in random spots just to touch it up. It looks okay just not as realistic as I was hoping. I wanted fluffy snow.

The way I did snow was mix baking soda with PVA glue until it was a nice pasty consistency.

Apply it where you want it and before it dries add some baking soda for the extra fluffiness.

Does it adhere well? Then I will sprinkle that little extra to fluff it up.

It does, but depending on the fluffiness you are looking, you might need to play around with the BS/PVA ratio in order to achieve the right texture that you are looking for.
