Greetings Dakka
I was wondering if I might garner your aid in a venture of the modelling variety.

While looking through a box of old things for some lego sets to use as terrain, I came across an old tank model toy (main cannon missing) and an army men field piece (wheels missing). Immediately I was struck with an idea - Looted Tank! This'd go perfectly with the deffskulls waaagh I'm putting together, but I'm not entirely sure of the best way to go about combining the two.
In the pic I've added one of my slugga boyz for scale, so you can see the size I'm working at. I'm currently considering removing the tanks turret and greenstuff-ing the field piece in place to make it look 'tied down' with ropes in classic looted style.

Attempting to attach picts (and I am aware they're a tad large - I'm not willing to mess around with my camera settings right now), but what do you think? Is it worth going ahead with? Any alternative ideas?

I like it without the turret, if you have access to plasticard/sheet styrene i may suggest giving it an armored skirt, because for some reason the wheels look wrong to me.

Thanks, Star - If I could remember exactly what company made it untold years ago, I'd let them know

Borkin - You have a good point. I was actually considering acquiring some plasticard in order to Orkify it a bit - spikes, glyphs, etc. I'll add a skirt to the list.

Yup, lots more plasticard, and more bitz. You can get good results from toys like that for looted vehicles, but it really comes down to lots and lots of plasticard. Also, find a way to put rivets into the plasticard. I use a an awl, personally. I'd remove the turret and mount the gun right on the deck.

I'm not buying it. It doesn't look like a looted tank, it just looks like a toy tank with a toy cannon stuck to it. This could be the basic frame for a looted tank with some plasticard, rivets, and Ork glyphs all over. Right now it just looks like 2 mismatched pieces of plastic.

Great idea, will make a great looted tank. When you do make rivets this is a neat tool. Doesn't work so great with thick plasti card though.

Decent idea, Jeep - ill keep that in mind. Hell of a lot easier than molding them out of greenstuff

Kestral - Way ahead of ya Decided to keep the turret off - looks better that way

And SRM - Thats sort of the point, mate I mean, I might've been a little vague, but give a guy some credit, yeah? I wouldn't just field an old toy and call it a day

I'd suggest, after attaching it to the turret, you detail it with some small diameter chain to "attach" it, instead of rope. Also could use a plow, but every tracked vehicle looks better with a plow.

Scalewise, though, it looks maybe a little too small. Might not make a difference in a world where a Rhino scaled to match a Honda Civic holds 10 marines + crew, though.

You're right about the scale, Ouze - I've attached (blu-tak ) a boy just behind the gun in order to get a feel for the overall piece, and it certainly is quite a bit smaller than I'd prefer.
Then again, I'm currently using two gorkamorka-era trukks in my forces, so scale is kind of out the window at this point

The chain is a fine plan, though. Might hunt some up at the local hobby store - oughta look a fair bit better than greenstuff strings

Should be good. And I agree that Scale isn't taken into consideration with anything else in 40k (a new truescale marine project every week for example) so I wouldn't worry, and a gretchin could drive it easy.

@ SRM - Thats a little bit harsh to be honest. He did say we was gonna convert it up.

So I've spent a while gathering materials and messing with ideas - this is what I've come up with.
To be honest, I'm rather pleased with it. I know it isnt going to be winning any prizes, but with a bit more work (still waiting for my GS to arrive, and deciding on how exactly to model all those rivets) and some painting, I reckon she'll turn out a pretty decent Wagon

Also, you might notice the Grot crew (just resting there atm - I'll likely paint them before I stick em in place. I gave some thought to the scale problem, decided that crewing it with gretchin not only makes it look less tiny, it also gives me the option to use the model as a 'counts as' Kannon. Pending opponent approval, of course

So once again, Dakka - thoughts? Suggestions?

There we go. It now looks much more orky. Throw on a few larger square panels, get a piece of plasticard rod and throw a bunch of rivets you'll be good to go. That and maybe a regular sized ork to just sit around and whip the grots.

Look for rivet tutorials rather than just modeling from GS. It's really easy, for example this one-

At first I was like "DO NOT WANT!"... but then you whipped out the plasticard. Good work man!

Keep piling things on. Orks tend to keep adding things until the vehicle looks like it could collapse under the weight of all the "Addishunz". Keep going until you think it is a little overboard.

..

And then add like 3 more guns and a toaster oven. Basically think like a mek.

Looted Wagon update - 'Rivets, oh sweet gods, rivets!'

'Lo again Dakka - I've been busy.
I got a tad impatient waiting for my GS to arrive (Lacking transport stymies finding a local GW store) and had a hunt around the house for something to use as rivets, and came across a box of old legos I'd obtained for use as terrain. Turns out lego makes a number of bitz that come in the perfect size for various modelling purposes - in this case, chopping up and being used as rivets!
As you can see, this has been moderately successful. The only thing I'd change if I were to do it again would be to not start on the front of the wagon. As I went on I learned to cut the pieces down so they'd stick out less. Ahh well

Still undecided about the left side though. In case you were wondering, those are glyphs. I played with riveting them, but it seems to obscure them too much (similar to the 'teef' on the front and rear) and I'd prefer to be able to read them. My alternate plan is to use pva to make them look crudely welded on, but I'm also thinking that a decent paintjob will make it a moot point anyway. Guess I'll flip a coin.

Moving on - I've cannabilised an AOBR Deffkopter for parts (don't fret, they're pretty damn cheap on ebay ). Using half of an engine, an exhaust and a bit of lego tubing I've supercharged the wagon. It's come out quite well, though I think it's going to need some more gubbingz to really shine.

Also sliced the ends off the rokkits for the grots to use as ammunition - they don't get many, but they're not expected to live very long anyway These'll have to be greenstuffed into looking a little more appropriate, and I'm considering attaching them with some GS 'rope' to hang down the back of the hull behind the grots, rather than sitting on the side there.

Finally, I've put together a rough estimation of how I want to 'chain down' the field piece. It's only blutak'd into place right now though - still in the process of working out how to both attach it securely and make it *look* like its attached securely.

As always, anything not make of plascard is still temporary - blutak is a wonderful thing

That's about it really. I once again humbly ask for your thoughts or suggestions Dakka
