In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I'm just finishing up the last few bits on that wizard model I've been working on for the last week or so (yes, the one I wanted to sculpt a hat for) but I've encountered a conundrum. The model is holding an orb in his hand, which I intend to paint red. I want this orb to look like it's got red energy swirling/pulsating inside of it, but I'm having a bitch of a time finding any sort of tutorial for anything like it, or even any good minis on CMON who are holding orbs. I've used google search, I've checked CMON's tutorial index, etc.
So my question is, do any of you know of a tutorial/good close-up reference pic I can use? I need to get this done tonight to meet my 'deadline'.

Seriously, I need to finish this model before I go to sleep, or else try to rush it in the morning... >.< If you have any advice, relevant pics, etc. then don't hold out on me, post it!

Here's a sort of illustration of what I'm trying to do, it's not a perfect fit but this combined with my own description above will hopefully get my idea across.

This without the eye, and perhaps swirling to account for the lack of a focal point, is the effect I want to pull off. However, I don't want to f*** it up by experimenting, and I don't have a whole lot of orb-toting models floating around.

67 views and not even a "Cool story bro"? You all suck.

Well for better or worse, the model is done... I'd give you pics but nobody responded, so you can all suck it.

(I would show pics but I only have a gakky cellphone camera that doesn't even have macro... )

Well, as it's done I guess I can't give you any tips - though did you consider rolling orbs out of greenstuff and putting them on cocktail sticks to practice on? Alternatively, buying a bunch of plastic beads of the right size and gluing a pin or suchlike through the hole would give you something cheap to use as a tester.

I use bitz as testers for my ideas. Flesh gets the extra Horror arms I don't use, armour gets bits of extra armour from Chimera kits, and so forth.

Orbs work the same as anything else glowing. Just do the lighting effects and you should be fine.
