one of the list for my FLGS tourny that im thinking of running, needs to be able to handle all armies decently.

1000 Pts - Dark Elves Roster

1 Lv 2 Sorceress
-Tome of Furion
- Talisman of Endurance (5+ ward)

2 x 10 Repeater xbow man with shields and FC

16 Corsairs w/ xtra hand weapon and FC

5 CoK - FC

2 Reaper Bolt Thrower

or this list with no magic and mainly combat

1 Master
Sea Dragon Cloak
Crimson Death
Blood Armor

2 x 10 Repeater xbow man with shields and FC

19 Corsairs w/ xtra hand weapon and FC

5 CoK - FC and banner of murder

2 Reaper Bolt Thrower

any thoughts? i currenty dont have access to hydras so they are out as well as dark riders, black guard, or cauldren of blood

Not having a hydra at 1000 points isn't too big a deal. Most armies would have severe trouble dealing with a hydra at 1000 points, so taking one at this level is a decidedly unfriendly thing to do.

Black Guard and the Cauldron are pretty expensive, and so perform better in higher point games, so again no big deal.

No Dark Riders or Shades, on the other hand, could bite you. You have very limited means of handling warmachines with your lists, and a gunline could hurt you badly. I would consider removing the bolt throwers for shades, myself.

Corsairs are pure gold at this point level. The COK can take on the enemy heavy hitter, and the corsairs will buzzsaw through core quite nicely. Not a bad investment in core points.

Not sure if I'd put shields on 10-man RXBs. One unit of 20, sure, then it becomes a backup melee block. At 10, though, it's a bit small to survive melee, and that's the whole point of giving RXBs shields in the first place. But then again, this is a smaller game, it could work.

Only reason i have them as two seperate units is to have more unitis to shoot with and at. i have haprys that i could run or mabye find some shades. which list did you like better? sorcereress or master?

Shame you don't have a hydra, I love mine, though I would have to say my opponent doesn't

I like the first list, but I would drop the bolt throwers and take atleast a unit of 6 shades, the new scout rule really makes them worth it. Harpies also wouldn't be a bad way to go.

On another note, I would drop the champs from the RXB units, frees up 10 points to maybe spend elsewhere (an extra corsair?). I'd even consider getting rid of the standards, as all you're doing with that small of a unit, is giving your opponent more VPs. As stated earlier, 10 is too few to hold up in combat, but I do believe shields help from from enemy ranged as well, granted not a lot, but worthy of the 10 points they cost the unit.

This is a list I plan on taking to the first round of an escalation league starting tomorrow:

Lord:
Sup. Sorc - lvl 3, darkstar cloak - 250

Core:
RXB x20 - standard, musician, shields - 235
Corsairs x20 - standard, musician, sea serpent standard - 240

Special:
shades x6 - 96

Rare:
Hydra - 175



You could run something similar to that, replacing the hydra with 5 CoK w/ full cmd, splitting the unit of 20 RXB also works as well.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I personally would go with a lvl 2 and then squeeze in a cheap BSB (using the points from the bolt thrower) and a unit of shades.

I agree no shields or standards for units of 10. Units of 20 defiantly.

Yeah ive been making revisions as the advice comes in, im taking down the shields and command for the RXB and ill go with the sorceress. i gotta see if i can use the HE scout dudes as shades for the tourny. its an intro tourny. if i can ill put in harpys. if not ill find a fall back

I don't think giving the sorceress a magical weapon is all that good an idea. You really, really don't want her getting into melee if you can possibly avoid it, so giving her a magic weapon is a bit of a waste. Spend the points on something to give her a ward save instead, that way she also has a chance to tank a miscast.

I agree ward save over magical weapon for a sorceress any day of the week. I'm not sure the bloodshade is needed either.

Im still debateing on which lore to use, ill figure that out before i head over there. and yeah that weapon was just a filler really. cant use a shades list since i dont own any so im running 6 harpys and some other stuff. im leaning towards either fire or shadow.

I think you'll find Shadow to be a better complement your army. De-buffing the other guys toughness or some such will help the corsairs really do their thing. Also, a de-buffed WS (to make sure you're hitting on 3s) with an Okkams would be pretty spectacular.

Fire is going to give some blasty spells, but you already have a lot of low strength shooting- so it would seem to just be providing more of what you're already rockin'.

Well the first list has the Heroes idea right - Sorceress's are much better than Masters, with the exception of a BSB, which could really enhance a unit of Cold One Knights (preferably 10 strong). However, a BSB is too expensive to be taken in 1000 points, because a limited 250pts in Heroes means that there is no way you could have BSB on Cold One with Hydra Banner. Taking a Lord to be the Army General is really nooby, so it'd be more sporting to take either a Hero of Lord - just one! 2 tends to be a bit over-the-top.

I'll be honest, I do like to take a War Hydra - even in 1000 points - despite it's slight unfairness. Not having one will make the list fairer, and your opponents won't get agro. I'd suggest replacing at least 1 of the Reaper Bolt Throwers, because quite frankly they're just as good as the War Hydra - in their own way, at least, so they are almost as nooby. 1 Rare choice is easily adequate.

If you wan't to use a Master, he should go with your Cold One Knights, so that means: Cold One, Lance (magical possibly), Heavy Armour and Shield. Him in a unit of Cold One Knights is, from experience, devastating.

You could possibly take a Hoard of Spearmen (Warriors), since their cost is awesome for their capabilities - only 7 points with Shield! All you'd have to get rid of is a Reaper Bolt Thrower and a unit of Repeater Crossbowmen.

With the leftover points, you could increase the unit size of the BAC and give them Sea Serpent Standard, which is really great since you can now restrain yourself (Ld test required).

This is just my opinion; from experience.

what i took:

Lvl 2 Sorceress with tome of Furion and talisman of Protection

2x 14 RXB w/ FC

22 Corsairs with FC, xtra hand weapon and sea serpent banner

5 CoK w/ FC

6 harpys

ended up with going with shadow, faced a DE player who (of course) brought a hydra and a block of 20 black guard.
might have done better if my sorceress didnt blow up twice taking round 12 corsairs and she didnt even die. next game dwarves, miscast again this time with the ST 10 large blast. lucky she didnt die but she got ran over and didnt cast again. last game was against VC and actually was a decent game got okkam off on the cold ones killing his block of 10 black knights, and the harpys actually killing his necromancer, but he also brought a black coach... yay. all in all i did fairly well
