Dear fellow Dakkas,
in another thread the idea bloomed to make a special scratchbuilding contest.
We have seen so many contest but this will be a special one.
You will get two bargains for one shot on scratchbuilding.
Frst get as many garbage from your houshold or your neighbors or someone you want to relieve of his garbage.
Or you might eaven collect garbage from the street or a near park. In doing so you help make the world a better smelling and nicer looking place.
And there is still more i hear you asking???
Of course i say! Now comes the tricky part, as garbage collecting in itself isn´t that challenging, it´s just that seldom people tend to do so...
You use said garbage to scratch built something of your own delight! Yeah that´s an instant win in itself. Get a beauty on the gamingboard built out of junk.
There are as for now two seperate categories to win in this contest i thought about for now:
first:
The contestant that builts with the most (quantity counts!) junk a recognizable !new! scratchbuilt related to our favorite grim dark future/fantastic battlegrounds
second:
As we are all women and men of the world of beauty of course the contest will award the best looking scratchbuilt.
Entries can be all that is related to the grim dark futuristic or fantstic battlegrounds of our favorite games...
entries will be accepted until the 31. october.
awards can be discussed and if someone wants to lend me a hand might sponsor this contest.
and as this is a junkscratchbuilding contest not only may the worthiest win but also the one who helps mother earth the most^^.
good luck and have good ideas,
Viktor von Domm

Interesting idea ?, but how would you know what is bought or just found . You would have to document the collecting of rubbish as well . This is something i would be interested in doing for sure.

I like it. Having that been said, I think it might need better rules hashed out. Limitations on what can be used? Can I paint anything, or is this just straight what you get from the trash? How much painting can I do? Can I use glue? Do I have to scavenge for paint and glue, or can I use my own stock? What happens if I know someone who just threw out a giant bag of GW terrain and a Realms of Battle board?
Automatically Appended Next Post: I've got some old chili in my fridge I need to throw out that I could use as Nurgle terrain, can that count?

well bought or found, at least as it wasn´t on some sprue before... might eaven use sprue^^
as for the argument of if it was rubbish, it might help to ahve two pics for entry, one with every part unpainted and unasambled and the other with finished product... Automatically Appended Next Post: chili has to be painted... and you should guess yourself would you play with this piece after a fortnight?

So, this is a terrain-building contest, right? There's now way you can scratchbuild infantry models from trash, and little way you can scratchbuild vehicles from it.
I guess I question the point of making something that's going to get picked up and thrown in a box and generally lightly abused... out of wet cardboard and crushed aluminum cans and old banana peels...
If you want to make terrain and vehicles, the upgrade to plasticard is so cheap and easy for such massive gains in durability. After all, I don't think I WANT biodegradable terrain, regardless of how it might make someone feel about "saving" the earth.

shampoo bottles can with every right considered to be litter. remember the famous eldar tank iirc made from such item. so it is not a mere terrain contest, built what you like.
as for biodegradable junk, it was but a pun on using leftover chili for terrain. wouldn´t eaven consider using this myself. but in the past i used beans, not cooked of course...
well this should be a fun contest with a slight hint of a ecological and educational message...

well i want to be also a scratchbuilder, that means in short terms that you sometimes has to be a bit of a messy (means in german someone who collects junk and cant part with it^^, it is a psy illness...) . i for one have collected with my family after new year the leftovers of the firecrackers and rockets. there are so many coneshaped parts and stuff i wanted to do something with them for so long. so i guess you mustn´t collect new junk, it is enough to built with "established" junk^^.
and as written in the rules above^^, the more junk the merrier...
well all in all it should be a fun project, and if you have fun doing so and it doesnt offend your eyes, than your a winner in my book
good hunt, sorting and working to everyone who wants to be part of this journey
