Hive Fleet Malicean:= stats, facts, and finished pics.

Hive Fleet Behemoth and it's splinter fleets were merely the cloven hooves sent fourth to trample a path for the Hive Mind.

Hive Fleets Kraken, Leviathan, and their many splintered fleets were but the many taloned claws of the hive, ripping and tearing us asunder.

Now comes what we all have, and should fear. Now that the Hive Mind has it's foothold and it's claws sunk deep into our universe. Now comes Hive Fleet Malicean. Nothing more than simply the gaping maw of the Great Devourer, closing in around us to consume us all.

There is one proven fact that holds true for all Hive Fleets, the one battle tactic they all have in common: The weak are sent first. By using this strategy, time and time again, the Tyranids waste our valuable ammo supplies, test our defences for weaknesses, and cost us precious lives we can ill afford to be lost when the stronger, more monstrous creatures arrive to crush us underfoot. Hive Fleet Malicean is no different. However, this Hive Fleet has employed this simple tactic on a much grander scale. Behemoth, Kraken, and Leviathan where the weak sent first. Malicean is the greater beast now sent to finally stampede it's rampage against our already weakened defences, our depleted resources, and our now limited populace.

These next pics are of little nids I like to call: Gantgoyles.

I can not decide on what kind of theme I want to do. Pictured here we have a sketch of:
1) the regular Gargoyle theme
2) Insectoid wings with moth like antennae

3)Kind of a leathery feathery look on both the wings and antennae, but with spikes.
4)Dragon fly wings (set of 2 larger and 2 smaller) with pointy version of the regular antennae.

So please vote, let me know if I should go with option 1, 2, 3, 4, or a different combination of wings and antennae.

I like the wings of number 3 and the antennae of number 1, or no antennae at all... and maybe the wings could be attached closer to the head.

Thanks for the feed back. I agree with you, the wings should be closer, good thing I haven't started sculpting yet.
But we now have 1 vote for wings 3 and antennae 1.
I personally think the leathery feathered look might be a little outside my league at this point, when it comes to sculpting skills. But hey, we would never go any where in life if we didn't push our limits and test ourselves

The moth antenne on the second gantgoyle made me lol

Not sold on the insect wings though, they seem too delicate. Also they remind me of zerglings with the speed upgrade from starcraft 2.

Yeah, I can see how insect wings with a thin membrane could be too delicate. I was just trying different ideas though to make them uniquely my own.

To pull off the insect look, I was thinking of making a basic frame of greenstuff and paperclips, then wrapping it in plastic wrap.

Make a mock wing out of gs including the membrane (yeah sounds bad) then make a mold and recast them in clear resin that way you get a nice solid wing that still is see through.

Great idea Santobell, and with a mold I can easily make enough wings for all of the Gantgoyles in no time.

So, when ever I do figure out what wing and antennae combo to use, I will make a mold.

I'm pleased I could help, if you need a hand with the molding there are a ton of Tut's on here about it, the only warning I have is if it's fiddly make sure you get a resin that sets over a longer period of time so you get less bubbles and it has the time to fill the molds properly, I have a some "Easycast" resin and it sets way to quickly for fine detail work on small parts (big stuff it's wonderful stuff small bit's and it's hit and miss).

I know they just quite idea sketches but wings 2 and 4 looked like leaves to me. That's what I thought before I read the text. I'm sure they'd look much better when sculpted though.

But that's my vote. Can't wait to see what the verdict is. Definitely like the idea of the Gantgoyles.

Yeah, they do look like leaves, which is why I made sure to include the text describing them as inscet wings

Some other names I thought of for them are: Gargants, Termagoyles, or Garmagoyles.

It is a lot cheaper to buy and convert 2 boxes of the booster pack of 5x Termagants for $8.25 each, versus the $29 for the pack of 10x Gargoyles.

The Carni model has a nice set of antenna if you want to see how GW did them on Nids.

I like Garmagoyles as Gargants are Ork stompers and Termagoyle sounds to simple
