Hey guys. Thanks for everyone who helped me out with how to make 3d lightning. Couldn't find any tutorials on this to save my life so thought I'd take progress pics and share... (I might just be blind) I didn't go the lightning route since I couldn't find any super thin wire and went the flames firey funnel route instead. Probably going to make it blueish/black flames...just because it contrasts well with the librarian color scheme I am doing.

Anyways here are the steps I took to doing this.

Materials:
4-5x Paperclips - the thinner the better
2x Needle Nose pliers - I recommend 2 so that its easier to hold the paper clip and bend it which ever way you want. It's too slippery holding it with just your hands.
Green Stuff
Librarian - I used the one with the staff
Arm from tactical or any Space Marine squad that is holding a gun - There are a ton that come with the tactical squad box, it's that hand that holds the Bolter (pix below)
Exacto knife - or any sharp thing I guess, haven't tried anything else


Notes:
-This is my first time ever messing with greenstuff. I bought it just a few hours ago...this is by no means a pro or perfected technique.
-I did not use water at all during this entire process.
-After Step 3 I got a paintbrush I knew wanted to throw away and dipped it in hobby glue and SUPER GENTLY brushed over the green stuff. I wasted and killed 2x crappy 10 cent brushes to do the entire thing because the 1st one dried up real quick on me.
-After I put hobby glue all over it I sprayed some stuff that makes hobby glue dry really quickly. The stuff I used is called Rapid Cure. This helped the glue dry super fast and make the greenstuff super hard.


Step1: Materials. Gather them!


Arm I used to hold the fire:


Step 2: Bend and twist a paper clip until you get the shape around your arm you want. I made my zig-zaggy and made it to loop around the arm so it looks like its coming from inside the librarian. (Hides inside shoulder pad) If you want it just from the arm I'm sure you can cut it short and just glue one end of the paperclip "fire skeleton" to the palm of the arm. I used hobby glue at key locations where the wire touched the army to glue the paperclip to the arm.



Step 3: Roll the greenstuff into a long worm looking thing and wrap it around the paperclip. Then use the Xacto knife to stab then pull outward. The greenstuff will stick to the xacto knife as you stab and pull it giving it pointy ends as you pull excess greenstuff off.



Step 4: Connect the arm to your Librarian and your done.








*Note: The painted pictures will have the fire a little lopsided. The hand is not glued on yet and I kind of just balanced it on the armor to sort of have it stay there. It's much easier to paint if it's seperated from the body...

Good Idea, should even work really with any arm with an open hand. Dark Eldar spurs have got plenty of those... Might even look niffty to wrap it around a Zoanthrope's head or spitting out of a snypase nid's mouth

If it was going to be truly evil looking I'd have gone for turquoise/blue flames but still...It looks awesome

@Gore: Ya I wanted to but my librarian is blue. Didn't think it would look as cool

It might work if you go for a more greeny colour, maybe start with scaley green and work up using hawk turquoise and maybe finishing with Ice Blue, would be a lot of work but could look awesome

I am going to use this idea with my Furioso Libby's open palm. I love the design, but like Gorechild said the greeny look would be sweeter.

Your welcome guys It was fun to do! A lot of people use modeling or sculpting tools but I couldn't afford that right now...Exacto knife all the way

I'm sure using the right tools would have been better but if your on a budget and have a Xacto knife laying around or paper clips work also it should produce similar results..

Bright greens would be perfect for an ork weirdboy's psychic vomit. Plus, since it's built around a paperclip, it'd be very simple to pin - just leave some bare wire at the base, trim to length, then drill a hole in the mouth. Could also make nice directed flames for backfiring/turboboosting ork exhausts, burnas, etc.

Looks like someone's about to use a power called "The Avenger" Possibly use this method for flames coming out of a bike popping a wheelie's exhaust pipes?

Wanna see it flying out of my Rogue Psykers eye balls haha ! Really diggin it wouldn't mind seeing it in a spooky blue or green as said above

Hey sweet, I suppose you could make a long one coming out vertically (gigidy) to give the effect of the caster "shooting"

@Peanut: Using those hands that have an outstretched gun shooting straight can be used for that effect. Cut off part from the wrist to the gun and replace it with the wrist from the arms that I used so it looks like its shooting out a blast. That'd be real cool!

I like this a lot, I may just borrow some of this for myself when I start converting up some librarians.
