Welcome to battle report number two, this time I find myself handing over my beloved Eldar army to a friend to see if I can beat face with my new Dark Eldar
This time the mission was kill points with a pitched battle deployment, the lists were......

Dark Eldar

Lelith Hesperax - 175
9 Wyches - Shardnet/Impaler, Hekatrix, Agoniser - 130
Raider - 60

10 Wyches - Razorflail, Shardnet/Impaler, Hekatrix, Agoniser - 150
Raider - 60

5 Incubi - 110
Venom (using a Vyper) - extra Splinter Cannon - 65

Ravager - Nightshield, Flickerfield - 125

Ravager - Nightshield, Flickerfield - 125

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eldar

Farseer - Doom, RoWitnessing , Singing Spear - 93
10 Dire Avengers - Exarch, Duel Shuricats, Bladestorm - 152
Wave Serpent - Scatter Lasers - 115

10 Dire Avengers - Exarch, Duel Shuricats, Bladestorm - 152
Wave Serpent - Scatter Lasers - 115

Fire Prism - Holo-Field -150

Wraithlord - Wraithsword, Shuriken Cannon - 110

Wraithlord - Wraithsword, Shuriken Cannon - 110

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deployment

Me and my DE get to deploy first and roll a 6 for our combat drugs (horray!)
My mate then deployed, he hid as much as was possible but left the wraithlords at the front to provide cover for the vehicles behind.
Once everything was set up the board looked like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 1

-In the movement phase I move everything up almost straight forward
-On the right my Ravager puts a single wound through against the Wraithlord, which thanks to AP2 means no saves.
-On the left the Venom puts 5 wounds through on that Lord, and my opponent fails 3 saves! Bye Bye Wraithlord
-The other Ravager wrecks a Wave Serpent that is no longer obscured by the Wraithlord, forcing the Dire Avengers to disembark

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 2 - Eldar 0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eldar Turn 1

I forgot to take a picture here, but here's the general idea of what happened:

-The Dire Avengers from the wrecked Serpent move and run into the ruin nearby
-The Wave Serpent that was in the ruin shifts right to get a clear LOS
-The Fire Prism on the other side also moves towards the centre of their deployment zone
-The Wraith on the right hand side wanders forward
-Some awful rolling means the twin linked scatter laser only hits with 1 shot, this glances and would have inflicted a "weapon destroyed" result if it hadn't been for the Ravagers Flickerfields
-The Fire Prism targets the ravager with the small blast, but scatters miles and does nothing.
-The Wraithlord manages to get a "Crew Shaken" result on the Venom

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 2 - Eldar 0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 2

-My Incubi (by my guess) are about 10" away from the Dire avengers that are hiding behind the building, knowing I probably only need 2" when running I disembark
-The Ravager on the left darts out of LOS of the Fire Prism but ensures he can still see the other Wraithlord
-Everything else moves to the centre
-The middle Raider scores an immobilized on the Fire Prism, but everything else fails to have any effect at all.
-The Incubi only get a 1 for their run roll and get left stranded 7" away and unable to assault :(

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 2 - Eldar 0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eldar Turn 2

-The Farseer casts Doom on the Incubi
-The Dire Avengers and Farseer move into the open, as does the remaining Wave Serpent.
-The Wraith passes Wriathsight again ans shuffles up towards my right hand Ravager
-The Fire Prism fires a large blast at the Incubi but only kills 1, but as a bonus the Venom gets hit and shaken again
-The Wave Serpent scores a "Weapon Destroyed" on the central Raider
-The Dire Avengers Bladestorm the Incubi and wipe them out
-In shooting the Lord does nothing to the right hand Ravager, but in assault manages to wreck it.

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 2 - Eldar 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 3

-All the vehicles move towards the centre and one unit of wyches gets out
-The Ravager kills off the Wraithlord but the Raider on the right fails to do anything to the Prism (blasted Holo-Fields!)
-Lileth and her crew charge into the Dire Avengers and the Farseer
-She manages to kill 5 Avengers herself and the rest of the squad bring down another 4
-In retaliation the Farseer and remaining Avenger score 1 wound, but this doesn't manage to kill anyone.
-After such a huge loss the Eldar (not surprisingly) fail their Ld test and get wiped out.
-They then consolidate, leaving the board like this:

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 5 - Eldar 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eldar Turn 3

-The remaining Wave serpent shifts forward and pivots round to allow the Avengers to hop out
-Not wanting to waste bladestorm on a unit of whyches in cover with feel no pain, the DA's shoot at the Raider, and through the sheer volume of fire, kill it (wrecked)
-The Wave Serpents Scatter Laser fires on the Raider and explodes it - but here comes the awesome part, 5 wounds were inflicted by the blast, I made 3 6+ armour saves (the other two were 5's) and passed the other two FNP's by rolling 2 more 6's
-The Fire Prism kills 3 wyches on the left with a dispersed shot.

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 5 - Eldar 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 4

-The Wyches from the destroyed Raider make a run for the nearby bastion and defence line to get some cover
-I have a "not properly awake" moment and move my Ravager and fire at the Wave Serpent that I'd already destroyed Turn 1
-The Venom shoots at the DA's and brings down 3 before Miss Hesperax and her unit charge them
-Lileth kills 6 thanks to furious charge and the rest of the squad cuts down the leftovers, they consolidate 4" to here:

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 7 - Eldar 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eldar Turn 4

-The Wave Serpent moves up to avoid any debate about the Venom getting a cover save and wrecks it with the Scatter Laser/
-The Fire Prism then fires right next to itself and picks off 3 of the Wyches that are now behind the defence line.

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 7 - Eldar 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Eldar Turn 5

-The Ravager moves up behind the WS and wrecks it, this puts so much difficult terrain in that part of the board I just clear it all up and slap a big crater down in its place
-After a good difficult terrain test and run Lileth makes it into assault with the Fire Prism
-The other wych unit also runs to hide behind the bastion to avoid a pie plate if it comes next turn.
-Thanks again to Furious Charge Lileth's squad manage to score 2 glances, one of which results in a "Weapon Destroyed"
-With no real chance of getting another kill point my opponent concedes, leaving us like this:

Kill Points's: Dark Eldar 8 - Eldar 5

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Result:

I win
Like last game I had a pretty good feeling about how this was going to end by about turn 3, if things had been the other way around and I'd been using that Eldar list I really don't know what I'd have done either! IMO this game was a good example of why not to take just 1 fire prism, admittedly my mate suffered from being immobilized a lot of the game, but still the big blast was pretty sucky without being able to link up, I think the Wraithlord points would have been better spent on another Prism.

I look forward to any C+C or questions, thanks for reading

Great report, thanks! Are you using lillith a lot? I have been tempted to try her but her str 3 and high points cost are scaring me away even though I absolutely love the model.

The impression I get as a Craftworld player, that when going against Dark Eldar that its really in my best interest to either go first, or play from reserves.

You'll note from your report that DE tanks are in fact quite fragile, and they are in fact bristling with guns. It should also be noted that Eldar themselves are no slouches in the speed department.

Playing a reserve game with or without an Autarch can give Dark Eldar real issues. It means 2/3 (1/2 without) of the Eldar Force is incoming, and it means that the Eldar are getting the first shot.

Trying to eat a round of Dark Eldar shooting, as your mate discovered, will put an Eldar Player immediately at a disadvantage...

That was my first game with her (only got her last week), I'll admit I ony realy got her for the model but I was impressed with how she played out. This might have been helped a lot by getting the pain token from the wyches drugs, as it meant I got furious charge pretty quick and being against a T3 army. I can imagine her struggling more against T4 armies though, I'll try her next time I play Ork's or SM's and see how it pan's out.

I think reserves may have been the way to go too. I'm quicky finding out (I've only had 4-5 games with DE) that your opponent needs hug cover/hide just as much as as the DE do to avoid the perverse number of S8 shots they can lay down. The only issue I can see is that DE can move 12" and still fire all their weapons, and they can move and still disembark/assault which gives them a huge advantage over craftworlders.

Thanks for the comments

Cant help but feel leaving the WLs in the open first turn was a big mistake especially when going 2nd vs DE. There was quite a bit of cover to get behind espeiclaly the basillicum building and both the WS and WL have the ability to move out from behind said cover and fire first turn. Using the WL to cover the WS wasnt optimal imo.

There was already a Wave Serpent back there, but I agree it was a bit silly to leave them exposed. He hasn't been playing all that long so I guess its just down to a lack of practice.

Also, if he is pretty new, he is also probably used to the punishment that they can take.

True, I'm sure he wont be making the same mistake again though
I'm hoping to get another report done against a more experienced player (orks) later this week if he's happy with me messing about taking pictures and writing notes down.
