This is my last battle report for a while (my regular opponents are back off to uni ), after reading thoroughly through Dashofpeppers tactica, I decided to have one last go at beating face with my Dark Eldar! I hope you enjoy it......

Dark Eldar - 1499 Points

Archon- Husk Blade, Soul Trap, Ghostplate Armour, Shadowfield, Combat Drugs, Webway Portal

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Space Marines - 1490 points

Librarian - Terminator Armour, Epistolary (Null Zone + Vortex of Doom)
Terminators - 10 Terminators

Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Flamer, Missile Launcher
Rhino - Storm Bolter

Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Flamer, Missile Launcher

Tactical Squad - 10 Marines, Flamer, Missile Launcher

Dreadnought - Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer

Dreadnought - Lascannon, Heavy Flamer

Landspeeder - Heavy Flamer

Landspeeder - Heavy Flamer

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deployment

  • Mission - Annihilation

  • Deployment - Spearhead

  • We roll off and I get to deploy 1st. I set up as far forward as I can with my Archon is in the central Raider, both Incubi squads start off behind it. The Beast master unit stay in reserve, ready to come through the Webway Portal.

  • The Space Marines try to stay in cover as much as possible whilst still being able to fire their Missile Launchers. The two Dread's stay on one side and the Rhino obscures itself behind them. The two Landspeeders and the Librarian/Terminator squad stay in reserve.

  • I roll a 4 for my combat drugs, gaining a re-roll on all my failed "to wound" roll's. My opponent roll's to seize the initiative, but fails.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dark Eldar - Turn 1

  • The left hand Raider (with 10 wyches in) moves 18" towards the long board edge

  • Everything else moves roughly towards the centre 12"

  • The Ravager on the far right passes its dangerous terrain test for landing on the bastion

  • The Archon and his unit hop out and the Archon sets of his Portal

  • The Ravager on the left hits with 2 shots, penetrates with 1 and manages to explode the Lascannon Dreadnought.

  • The Painted "Ravager" managed to wreck the second Dreadnought

  • The Ravager on top of the Bastion shot at the Rhino, 3 shots hit, 2 penetrate, and destroy the Storm Bolter and Immobilize it.

  • Good start eh?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Space Marine - Turn 1

  • In a desperate need to open up some vehicles, no Marines move

  • The Tactical squad (hidden behind the back bastion) fires at my Raider (the one with wyches still in) but flickerfields save me from the missile launcher.

  • The squad on top of the Bastion managed to get a weapon destroyed result on the Ravager that is on the bastion

  • The Tac squad behind the defence line also weapon destroy the Archon's Raider.

  • ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dark Eldar - Turn 2

  • The Beasts arrive from the Webway Portal

  • The Archon embarks and his raider goes flat out past the right hand tactical squad

  • Everything else moves 12" towards the Marines

  • The Wyches Riader stuns the Rhino

  • Over on the right side of the board, two Ravagers kill 4 Marines

  • The two Venom's only kill 3 tactical marines

  • The Beasts Just get into combat with the Tac squad that's behind the bastion

  • As I only managed to get a few models into assault (2 flocks, 2 khymera I think it was) I only kill 4

  • The Space Marines score 4 wounds too, so we stay locked in combat

  • Then we pile in, and end up like this:

  • ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Space Marine - Turn 2

  • The terminators and one Land Speeder arrive from reserve

  • The Terminators try to deep strike by the Venom's but scatter massively onto them, they mishap and get the "misplaced" result.

  • I happily pick them up and place them in a ruin on the far side of the board, two die from failed dangerous terrain tests

  • The Terminators are just in range of my Ravager, but only manage 1 glance, saved by the flickerfields

  • Both Tac squads fail to hit

  • In combat, I wipe out the Marines before they attack back. Then I consolidate 5" and surround the Rhino

  • ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dark Eldar - Turn 3

  • All my vehicles move up 12"

  • The Archon and his squad disembark

  • The Archons Raider shoots at the Land Speeder and shakes it

  • The painted "Ravager" shoots at the Land Speeder and explodes it, the 2" explosion hits 3 of the beast squad but they are all saved by FNP

  • The other Ravager shoots at the Rhino and wrecks it, the unit inside is insta-killed as it can't get out

  • The Venoms shoot at the squad on the bastion and kill another 2

  • The Archon's unit charge the remaining 3 models in the tactical squad, the Archon kills 2, the Hekatrix finishes the last one.

  • With the kill points now at 6-0 to me and having only taken 4 wounds, they had a unit stranded by itself, a nearly dead squad and 1 speeder left, my opponent concedes.

This one was pretty much a foregone conclusion from the beginning imo. that marine list had little to no ranged firepower (3 ML and a Lascannon) which is about equal to one Ravager.

One suggestion on the format, rather than exhaustively detail the motion with text, try to hit the big comments and let the pictures speak for themselves. For example, maybe saying 'Raiders reposition to take shots and drop the WWP. Ravager fire wrecks two dreads and a Rhino' or something along those lines.

Good report. Dark Eldar are still aces against non-MSU MEQ's. That marine army just didn't have what it takes to handle your army, especially with you going first.

Cool report, I liked the way that you clarified every move that you made by not cutting everything short, it made for a pleasant and easely understandable report whili till including pics so that we viewers can visualize the grand battle.

I think the ''emperor's finest'' were on leave for this battle... the space marine list as mentioned before is just terribad (I know that isn't a word but his list forced me to make a word up to describe it)

I mean 10 tactical terminators with NO upgrades at all??!?!?
Deepstriking?!?!?!? oh dear thats 400 points down the drain straight away.. I would have thought it wise to give the dreads some cover first turn aswell but maybe he did, I can't quite tell from the photos

Slightly contradictory comments there I'll see if I can make them a little less wordy in the future

There wasn't that much more they could have done with the temines unfortunately, my opponent doesn't have a land raider and none have TH/SS. Saying that, if it was me I'd probably have just used the points elsewhere.
From where I deployed originally, the dreads probably were obscured, but by the time I moved in turn 1, all but one of my vehicles had clear LOS.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

nice match! nothing wrong with working over some space marines.

only one thing wrong that i could see:

The Archon embarks and his raider goes flat out past the right hand tactical squad

this is a no-no as you can't go flat out if you are picking up or dropping off a unit. didn't matter to the game much, if at all, so no worries here.

They guy I was playing doesn't have an army of his own, so just borrow mine or my other mates that are left in my gaming room, so its not just him learning to fight DE, he had to remember how to fight DE almost every time with a different army

Yeah I was setting it up with objectives in mind but then rolled annihilation. I think if it had been objectives it may have been less one sided.

You seemed pretty playful at first with this for some reason, though mostly I guess cause of taking care of dread's for the most part and setting up the three prong attack. I think you got some serious lucky rolls though Gore haha. Mostly on the flickerfield save and the termie mishap was pretty commical though nice to see the beast master running around first time I've seen him in play but looks like the set up Dash was using in his beast master tutorial though I know he was running like 9 Khymera but nice game Gore hopefully you stick with DE. In the end this game was filled with lots of.... Kill, Maim, burn...

I was always thinking of a khymera/razorwing beast unit and played about with lots of different set ups before I saw DoP's list, It was allong the lines of what I wanted and its really effective for the points I've found. I'd strongly suggest it for anyone looking at making a unit, In the first game I used them they ties up over 400 points of orks for 3 turns and killed about half of them before caving.

The terminators were really unlucky (or lucky from my point of view), I think they scattered 10-11". I'd like to have seen how it panned out if we carried on (to see how little I could loose before wiping them out most likely )

    Thanks for commenting

It is not legal. Fast transports cannot move flat out on a turn in which units embark or disembark.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

@Built-in: Yeah this was already pointed out ^^

It's not a legal move, as Painnen (and Darkness) said. So don't make the same mistake I did Luckly it didn't really make a difference in this game.

ouch... the marine list totally relies on the terminators (400+ points !!!!!!!). trying to DS them in the middle of enemy lines without any telehomer or locator beacon is a risk I would never take...

I've still got 2 venoms, 10 scourges, 10 wyches, 10 warriors and 5 hellions (soon to be beastmasters) left to build, and 3 more venoms to buy! I just built everything for these rep's so I could get a feel for the army. It doesn't have to be done to be able to get games in

Now, i'm having some very serious issues beating the Dark leatherlovers, Space marines make no chance at all unless you play spacewolves with max longfangs.

Anyone has some tip and tricks, i'm a regular 1Ksons player with good succes agains all kinds of armies, but i lost 3 times in a row to the DE. his list is close to what you play.

The problem is that most of the things that are good against DE aren't the best choice for taking on other armies. You need to castle up and have a lot of S6-7 weapons to take down Raiders. If you spread out you are just working to the DE payers advantage, their speed means they can throw 100% of their army down 1 side of the board to kill half your army and still be able to reach the other side by turn 4 to kill the other half, don't let them (as in my DE v Ork batrep).

Without knowing what you run I don't know what to suggest really, just stock up on long range S6-7 weapons
